I was Social Sec at Mardon back in the mid 90's. Very pleased to see this much loved place on Wikipedia! The Mardons now live in France so far as I can remember.Iamlondon 18:50, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Holland Hall

The article Holland Hall has been listed as an article for deletion. See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Holland Hall. The discussion is moving towards merging it into University of Exeter. There seems to be no consideration of the fact that there are pages for five other Halls at Exeter and that University of Exeter Halls of Residence exists. The page was badly written and obvious vanity from a Holland Hall resident. I have have had an attempt to make it better. If you want to keep this article, and perhaps all the others on Halls at Exeter (and indeed the many articles on Halls elsewhere) go to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Holland Hall and vote to keep it. Give reasons. Votes without reasons are often ignored. I have done what I can, but I have no real interest in Exeter University. I just have an interest in articles on Halls and Colleges and came across this deletion notice by chance. --Bduke 21:31, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

Ralph Miller and Joseph Inniss

Duryard currently houses Ralph Miller and Joseph Inniss, who present their popular Sunday night "Ralph and Joe Radio Show" on the student station XpressionFM 8-10pm.

What?

I beleive 'popular' is not an apt word to use here. At one point the listen online feature recorded at total of three listeners. This I believe contradicts Wikipedia's quality standards.

I believe 'at one point' is not an apt word. This claim is not backed up and a citation of this one point is required. This survey could only have been made on an occasion when the Ralph and Joe show wasn't on air and the automation system was on instead, as occured on 21/05/06 and 28/05/06. Also could the person making the question above please inform wikipedia where they found this online feature.

Nb. A shows listeners cannot be assessed on the noting of listeners at one instance in time. The station is also available on FM and this was not factored. This is an inaccurate representation of the listenership.

Superior Duryard Mews

Superior Duryard Mews. This is a question of subjectivity and also contradicts Wikipedia's quality assurance standards.

-Rooms in the Duryard Mews are bigger than rooms in the other houses, and the building has better equipped and larger kitchens, along with a better shower/toilet to person ratio, and better access to clothes washing facilities. I would consider it 'superior'.

Notability

I disagree (as a former resident of one, who’s name I had to scan the article to recall). Nothing in this article makes any of these buildings notable. It seems like a copy-cat of one of those absurd articles about American campus micro-features. —Ian Spackman 13:18, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Clean up

I move that this article needs to be cleaned up. It is messy, disorganised, and it contains a lot of superfluous information, and a lot of content reads like a brochure for the university or an advertisement. SGGH ^speak! 10:04, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

It makes the entry sound like some sort of informal guide to the campus and cites no sources. I am furious. Numerous edits have been done and we don't even know who has done it or what is vandalised because 'it has conflicting edits' and needs to be done manually. It is outrageous. NASSAfellow (talk) 15:03, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

Pictures

The picture listed for Birks Grange is actually of the old halls, Birks Halls. So if anyone has a picture please update it! It would also be interesting if it were possible to put pictures of the old halls, i.e. Duryard up. TheLucster (talk) 19:36, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

Update June 2011

A numjber of the halls are now managed by the University Partnerships Programme (UPP), including Lafrowda. Some of the Lafrowda blocks have been demolished and new pre-fabricated halls are being constructed. Other new UPP blocks have been constructed adjacent to Birks halls, known as Birks Village. The new halls will eventually revert to university ownership.

On the site of the former Duryard halls, new residences have been constructed by INTO. One of the original Duryard halls, Moberly, remains in use. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 144.173.5.196 (talk) 10:49, 23 June 2011 (UTC)

infoboxes

Hey folks. Those infoboxes don't conform to Manual of Style guidelines. They shouldn't have the big curve at the top, which doesn't render properly on some browsers. Also, it'd be nice if there was some sort of consitancy of size, they're far too big! Finally, these stripes are new to me - As an ex-resident, I don't recall any colours for the halls... In addition, since my pruning of a great deal of irrelevant content yesterday they rather overwhelm the text. The template was created in June 2008 by User:Dodgerjammy when he did a lot of work on the Uni articles and he put them in here after User:SGGH turned the HoR articles into redirects. I'd prefer to remove the templates altogether as irrelevant to a portmanteau article, but retain the photos and merge any relevant content into the text. Comparison with other articles in Category:Halls of residence in the United Kingdom is interesting.  —SMALLJIM  11:49, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

Colours have been a recent thing. I'm not impressed that the article has been diluted so much after people have worked hard on it. Wikipedia is a source for information. The Students' Guild website is under construction so references can not yet be put in, but I can confirm that they will be there when the archive is put up again. Most students moving into halls would like to know a bit about the history of their hall. I'm half tempted to start up my own website on this topic. Perhaps you should think of the Wikipedia article as a provider of background and historical information that the Students' Guild website can refer to, rather than the other way around? Much of what I removed would fit far better in that website. Remember that verifiability in reliable third-party sources is an important principle here. Any more suggestions about these infoboxes? I think it would be better to replace them with one generic infobox (if such a thing exists - can't see one), or a photo or photomontage, or a map, at the top of the article, retaining the individual photos in the sections and merging in the infobox text, as I've done with the short Holland Hall section. BTW, WTT, I can't see where the MOS disapproves of infoboxes with curved tops, was that what you meant?  —SMALLJIM  21:56, 20 August 2011 (UTC)

Birks Committee

Unless someone can think of a pressing reason not to, I suggest this section be removed. It's inconsistent to have it for this Hall but not for the others; no verification is provided for any of it; it's hardly encyclopedic since it only refers to the last couple of years; it's inaccurate (the developer's name is wrong); and statements such as "the University claims" are hardly NPOV.
