It's fixed!! Buckshot, 3 Aug 06

The COMSIXTHFLT could easily be one section on this page, rather than its own article. Jinian 19:25, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

That makes sense - hard to see what content there could be about the commander's position, aside from the list of persons. Stan 21:32, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

I agree. COMSIXTHFLT should be on this page. Lou Sander 18:09, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

I agree.

I agree with all this. I served as a member of the C6F staff from Dec. 1990 to Dec 1992, when the flagship was onboard the USS Belknap.

Why was this article moved?

I don't necessarily have a problem with renaming/moving this article, but it was done with no apparent discussion by somebody who doesn't seem to have a user page. Not a good way to do it, IMHO. Is there a reason for the move? Lou Sander (talk) 19:29, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

It looks like all the US numbered fleet pages were moved. You might bring this up at WT:SHIPS, and see if what they say. THey have enough editors that someone should know why it was doen, and what can be done about it. As to why, I think "Unit (country)" is supposed to be a new standard in the naming conventions, but where this is, I don't know. - BillCJ (talk) 20:27, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
  • Also try WT:MILHIST, as that is the project at the top of this page. - BillCJ (talk) 20:54, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

Mission statement

I appreciate that, along with other units, the Sixth Fleet needs a "mission," or some raison d'etre! While their statement isn't as bad as some, it is still discouraged by WP:MISSION. I had hoped that the Sixth Fleet was of sufficient importance that some civilian statement could be found and used that was completely npov and emphasized the US/NATO's real reason for their presence than some sanitized version that may overemphasize some aspects and avoid others. Student7 (talk) 01:39, 11 September 2012 (UTC)

This is international relations; virtually impossible to find something that is completely NPOV. I note WP:MISSION; in absence of some third-party, up-to-date statement of what the Sixth Fleet does, I believe the official statement should remain for now. Once there's a third-party mission statement that dates from the last five years or so, we can remove the official statement. Buckshot06 (talk) 23:47, 11 September 2012 (UTC)
However, if you wanted an OR mission statement, it would be something like 'conduct routine show-the-flag/presence operations, exercise capabilities with NATO and other partners, and prepare to conduct military and operations-other-than-war when directed by the National Command Authority.' Recommend adding new commander

In the first paragraph of this article it inaccurately list Vice Admiral Philip S. Davidson as the commander of the Sixth Fleet. The current commander is Vice Adm. James G. Foggo, III. I'm adding this to the talk section as I'm a Navy Public Affairs Officer - editing the article would be a conflict of interest. http://cne-cna-c6f.dodlive.mil/leaders/vice-adm-james-g-foggo-iii/ http://cne-cna-c6f.dodlive.mil/u-s-6th-fleet-changes-command/ http://www.stripes.com/news/foggo-nominated-to-lead-6th-fleet-1.303574 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shawn-PAO (talkcontribs) 18:01, 23 March 2015 (UTC)

No. Just add it. If someone questioned it, that would be the appropriate time to indicate you are associated with the Navy. With controversial stuff, you would need to be a bit more up-front on resumes. Routine info does not (unless reverted!).
I realize that guidelines seem to say otherwise, but in this case, it's a matter of fact, which you have apparently resolved with a WP:RS. Your intent does not conflict with that of the Wikipedia Project.
It is not Wikipedia's intent to stop the most knowledgeable people from editing articles! But thanks for your honesty! Student7 (talk) 20:29, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
