Wavelength

What does that spectrum have to do with UV light? It shows some information about transmission in the wavelenth are of 5k to 15k nm.. UV light is somewhere <300.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.221.88.233 (talk) 06:47, 18 July 2008‎

I have added a heading to this section···Vanischenu (alt) 11:13, 5 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

UV stabilizers in plastics is two short unreferenced paragraphs quite relevant to this topic and should be merged. --Wtshymanski (talk) 04:49, 2 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Getting Specific

edit

Quoting:

Susceptible polymers
Effect of UV exposure on polypropylene rope
Common synthetic polymers that can be attacked include polypropylene and LDPE, where tertiary carbon bonds in their chain structures are the centres of attack.

I'm glad you have that section, examples often give meaning to (uselessly vague, but factual) abstractions (such as "Susceptible polymers"). The article also needs a section on resistant polymers, and more comparisons with non polymers such as glass and natural fibers, to pin down all these vague and relative descriptions, properties, and abstractions. Also a chart of say, the top-20 most common and most popular (famous) polymers.

Solar degradation might be the main reason why "Plastics" is often considered a synonym for "crap." Imagine my glee when a 2-liter PETE bottle survived 4 years outside, still flexible, seemingly unchanged. After further testing I now consider PETE a miracle substance. I've seen others turn into egg-shell in 20 days. Too bad the industry is so communication impaired. If they decided to hide the above PETE bottle properties, they would need to make no changes. Cheers!

What is a mancab

edit

I'm unable to determine what a ″mancab″ is as referred to in the line: Other plastic products which failed included polypropylene mancabs used at roadworks which cracked after service of only a few months.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Rlneumiller (talkcontribs) 23:41, 6 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
