intention

edit

My intention was to explain a new toy and what it offers for children and parents for today. There are already plenty of "older" toys explained and I thought the explanation of a "new" toy would help allow people to get a better understanding of how toys have changed and how they are differnt for today's youth. I intend on re-writing this page so it doesn't sound like spam. Advertising was not my intention. Thank you. David M. Sharp 16:50, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

So noted. I have removed the speedy-delete tag and replaced it with an {{underconstruction}} tag to gove you more time. The article may be just a little too detailed for such a new product that hasn't yet established a critical mass among the public. The main thing you need are citations from independent, reliable sources that are about the subject. To start, a Good ol' Google search is always a good step. I did it out of curiosity about this new toy (yeah, you got me interested!), and found an article in the New York Times that would certainly qualify as a reliable source. I found a few others, too, but I'll leave those to you as a bit of an exercise. And also see WP:CITE on the way to cite those sources in your article. Let me know if you need help. Why I looked Funkeys up on wikipedia

edit

The comercial mentions that some are rarer than others. I want to get by little brother one for his birthday, so I came here for a list of them and how rare they are. I don't want to be taken advantage of on ebay with sellers claiming "The only one on Ebay, EXTREMELY RARE and HTF". --65.162.59.230 06:32, 9 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've added a few of them.--JRTyner 01:58, 14 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

I made a few corrections

edit

I have the complete collection of funkeys and today looking for some information I came across this page. I saw that it was in need of revision and decided to lend a hand. Basically complete the missing information about all the models with characteristics, colors and rarity. also a few minor revisions to make it sound more informative and less "please buy me" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.187.162.236 (talk) 05:55, 23 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thank you. A lot of EBay sellers have been trying to cheat people out of their money by passing Rare Funkeys as Very Rare. My mom is going to give my little brother a starter set for his birthday at the end of November, and I'm looking to give him one of the Very Rare ones as a little surprise gift.

Is there a reason you removed the images I had? I was getting ready to add the rest, but I won't if there was a reason they were removed. --JRTyner 18:37, 30 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Clear COI and spam

edit

See Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest/Noticeboard#Inappropriate_paid_editing_on_Wikipedia_by_Intrapromote. I've nominated it for speedy deletion as it is clearly just advertising. I hadn't noticed the previous delete discussion mentioned above. Dicklyon 17:03, 13 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

It is not avertising, it's just a wiki on which ones are available. The company is not releasing a list of the colors available or how rare they are so that people will buy more of them. With this list you can just look for the ones you want. What is wrong with a definition of each type, and a table of colors? --JRTyner 19:35, 13 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
It's already been nominated for speedy deletion once and there is opposition to its deletion, so if it's to be deleted, it needs to go to AfD. --A. B. (talk) 20:52, 13 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
What's AfD? Can you explain why it should be deleted or moved?--JRTyner 21:13, 13 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
WP:AfD is Articles for Deletion. I went ahead and nominated it. See the tag on it for link to the discussion, where you can post your opinion. Dicklyon 21:18, 13 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
All of the species information is on there website, so it's very well sourced, but hard to read because it's in small frames on different pages. As for the colors, do they really need to be sourced? All you have to do is look at a photo of one.--JRTyner 01:12, 14 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Jehochman has removed your tables again, characterizing the section as advetising in his edit summary. I pretty much agree. The information is unsourced, essentially your WP:OR, and is not crucial to the topic. The fact that it is gathered from the official web site doesn't make it any more appropriate; it's basically you reformatting their advertising. What's the point? Dicklyon 03:07, 14 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
I didn't add the race discriptions, they were there when I first came to this page. But I do agree with who ever posted it. On there site it is impossble to compare the discriptions because they're in different frames. Plus the site is slow due to traffic and flash apps. As for the colors, I did start that, but needed help to finish it. Again, I say the non-normal colors can not be found on the U.B. Funkey webpage because they are supose to be secret till you find them. Without those tables, someone would have to drive from store to store to find out what colors are available, and I doubt any one person can do it. Is Wikipedia's purpose not suppose to make our lives easier by being a free content encyclopedia? --JRTyner 06:45, 14 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Can we delete the COI tag now that the user in question is gone. --JRTyner 01:16, 17 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

It's OK by me. Most of what he did is now neutralized, and I'll watch to make sure it doesn't come back. Dicklyon 05:41, 17 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'll take it down now. I want to thank you again for all your help. --JRTyner 17:49, 17 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
I'm the person who wrote the color charts and added the missing info. why is it implied that it was vandalism or that there was a COI? I'm just a regular user who just stumbled upon incomplete information and proceeded to complete with with information I had available. isn't that the point of wikipedia anyway? by the by, the information is still wrong. the NYTimes is WRONG. an internet connection is NOT needed to play the game. My guess is that it was the main intent of the creators, to keep it offline, to provide a safe environment for kids. I am in no way affiliated with Radyca or whoever is responsible for the game. (how do you add the user tag to this thing anyway?)
Sign by inserting four tilde's after your post, or click below the edit window where it says "Sign you username" and it will insert that for you; it will expand appropriate when you preview or save.
The COI tag was also not about you; the unsourced table of info is a separate issue. See WP:OR and WP:RS. As to the NYTimes remark, either they changed it, or it was misquoted; it doesn't say anything about needing to connect except "owning a Funkeys confers indefinite access to the online places it unlocks." I'll fix. Dicklyon 06:22, 24 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Why I wiki'ed Funkeys, why I edited Funkeys, & why I think the color chart should stay.

edit

My child had been bugging me for WEEKS to go to U.B. Funkeys' website. He wouldn't let it drop, so I wanted to find out exactly what had captivated his entire class at school. (Of course, I had to figure out the correct spelling of Funkeys, which took awhile since I hadn't seen an ad.) When I finally googled the right name, I got the web site and the Wiki site among the results. The Wiki post gave me the information I needed (RE: COLOR CHART) to get a handle on the availability of the different characters. You can't always believe your kid when he says something is "rare".

I edited the article because of grammatical errors and readability issues (which are also prominent on the website, but I can't correct those, now, can I?).

I think the color chart should stay. Like someone else mentioned, it is a boon to parents who don't have the time to drive from Toys R Us to Wal-Mart to Target to Kohl's to see what's available. Whoever stripped this page must not have a ten year old tugging on his/her shirt every thirty minutes regaling the appeal of Funkeys collection. I've started gathering Funkeys as I come across them for Christmas, birthdays, etc. I'm just glad I copied the chart before it was removed. It's been a huge help to be able to flip to it and keep tabs of what I have. It also makes it a lot easier to ask someone in another town to look for a specific color/race than to have them call you if they come across any and all Funkeys.

It just makes Christmas shopping a little easier. Suzoz 14:27, 16 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

The worst part is trying to get the right one without him knowing about it. If I asked him about them, that would ruin the surprise. So that table was the only place , I had to turn to. I finally decided on getting a white stich and a white/black one of those with the mask. Now I just have to find them. I haven't found either one yet , but atleast since I saw the table, I know what I'm looking for (FINALLY!). --JRTyner 01:10, 17 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

The price has recently dropped to be more competitive for the Holiday_season. Your best bet is to check Amazon.com and to swing by your local walmart, target, kmart, or other supercenter. --MahaPanta 22:06, 5 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Peer Review

edit

I added the peer review tag because this page has been expanded, edited, reduced, then almost deleted twice for lack of content. There is plenty of good content available, but sometimes it's added in ways that other people don't like, and is deleted. We need to start editing more to improve the page. Basically we need to use this talk page more and discuss how we can edit something to make it useable instead of just deleting it. --MahaPanta 14:57, 9 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Starter.jpg

edit

Image:Starter.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

| Source = www.Amazon.com
| Article = U.B. Funkeys
| Portion = The amount used cannot make the work as a whole less valuable to the copyright holder. It's the packaging, anyone can tell that, so why do I have to explain it to a bot?
| Low_resolution = Yes
| Purpose = It contributes significantly to the article because the next time you're in Wally World, and you see the starter set in the photo, then you can bet that that's what the article is about.
| Replaceability = You can't get any more free than the packaging.
| other_information = This is a picture of the packaging for the U.B. Funkey starter package. Since this is a picture of the product as found in stores and is used by the company to promote the product, it is fair use. This is how you see the product in packaging before you buy it.

What is going on?

edit

{{helpme}} I did everything that was asked, yet my image was still deleted. Why? --MahaPanta (talk) 02:59, 12 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

The above template has to be placed on the image's description page. It does no good here. I'd recommend re-uploading the image and placing the template above in the "Description" section. When you do so, please remove it from this page. Thanks. Hersfold (t/a/c) 03:17, 12 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
P.S. - You might want to make the rationale a bit less sarcastic before copying it over, by the way. Bots are by their nature inherently dumb, and look for very specific things when doing their tasks. Getting mad at them doesn't really serve much purpose. Hersfold (t/a/c) 03:19, 12 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
I did, I reposted it here after it was deleted anyway, and without explanation. I'm not mad at all, but people do say I have a dry sense of humor. This is the first article I ever edited, and I am trying to get it to featured status. I figure if I can do that, then along the way I will learn more about using wikipedia. The old saying "It's not the destination, but the journey." comes to mind. --MahaPanta (talk) 04:23, 12 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

I filled out this template, and left out the sarcasm. Any problems? --MahaPanta (talk) 04:40, 15 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

The templates User:MahaPanta transcluded on this page are making it show up in categories it doesn't belong in. I have un-transcluded them, but retained the text within. --Phirazo 14:35, 18 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Updates

edit

Apparently there are updates to the game zones, characters, features, etc. It would be good if someone would find a source and write it up. But lots of anons keep making uncommented changes without a source, and the citation that's there contradicts those changes, so I keep reverting them. I have nothing against getting the right data into the article, but citing a source and saying something it contradicts is not the way to go. Dicklyon (talk) 20:56, 1 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
