Recently we submitted a page giving the history of FLIR Systems Inc. This submission was done with permission from David Francoeur, Marketing Director at FLIR Systems Inc. The submission contains accurate historical descriptive content from http://www.flirthermography.com/about-flir.asp . FLIR systems is a client of ours and has requested that we perform this submission in Wikipedia.

- Hi,
- To copy verbatim content from an external website, you need the authorization of the copyright holder (which apparently you requested, thank you for that) to publish it on wikipedia, but also the copyright holder must make it available under the W:GFDL licence, which states that anyone can reuse this text as long as they keep the resulting work under the same licence. That is usually the stumbling block, because that means that the original author has no longer control on derivative work. A statement from FLIR that the text is licensed under the GFDL is what's missing from the article you created.

- Ah, and I forgot to mention that the text of the article has to be heavily edited to suit the encyclopedic purposes. Statements like "... has given FLIR an engineering team and a sales and support infrastructure that are unmatched" are simply not W:NPOV and should be removed. -- CyrilB 12:33, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
- Seeing that this concern had not been addressed I went ahead and deleted the content that was from that page. No great loss, as I left in a one-sentence summary and a link to the original. If anyone cares, they can read it there.
- I'm a little disturbed that so many editors have worked on this page while ignoring this issue (and ignoring the other problems noted in CyrilB's last paragraph above.
Semiprotected
Per a recent thread on the admin noticeboard, I've semiprotected the article for a month to prevent further IPs (all from the Oregon area - hmm) from vandalising the article.
