Literary references to taxation in the Ottoman Empire edit

H. Murakami's famously bizarre short story The Strange Library features a boy who visits a library in order to research the arcane subject of Ottoman taxation. Is this perhaps worth referencing? 108.185.115.119 (talk) 18:51, 5 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

I agree that this literary reference is worth mentioning. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 160.253.128.120 (talk) 21:14, 7 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Note 12 - William Winchilsea, April 1669, "PRO SP 97/19, fo.76" edit

This reference is a bit odd: I assume it refers to Heneage Finch, 2nd earl of Winchilsea, who was ambassador extraordinary to the Porte from August 1660 to July 1669 and whose correspondence is in PRO SP/97/17-19. (See Bell, Gary M., Handlist of British Diplomatic Representatives, 1509-1688, London 1990, p.286.) Also one must suspect that it comes from an unnamed publication. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Perdika92 (talkcontribs) 11:59, 13 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
