Where to place an action figure section?

There have beens everal action figures based on the Street Fighter series, like the recent SOTA Street Fighter line-up. Where to include this? In a new section or add it to "Adaptations for other media". Thanks for the "talk". ShotokanTuning 10:13, 17 November 2005 (UTC)

Original Street Fighter character victory statements.

In Street Fighter 1, the winning & losing screen for Ryu was the same statement spoken & written on the screen, with winning being "What strength!! but don't forget there are many guys like you all over the world." and losing being "You've got a lot to learn before you beat me, try again kiddo!"

However, before the screen after the fight, the characters would proclaim victory with audio each in a unique way, just like in the victory screen of the later Street Fighter games. Here is what I could make out myself;

Ryu; "All Right!"
Joe; "Whose your daddy?"
Mike; "I'm the champion!"
Retsu; "Go to heaven."
Geki; "(laughter)"
Birdie; "Another win!"
Eagle; "And that's that, (laughter)"
Lee; "???"
Gen; "You are weak, go(?)"
Adon; "You are no match for me."
Sagat; "(laughter)"

I'm fairly confident about all of them except for the two fighters from China. Alternately, there is some audio for certain moves, like Sagats fireball, which in SFII was "Tiger!" though in SFI almost sounds like "Fire!", with the early audio voice emulation it is difficult to tell, as all of Ryu's moves are different (in English) as in "Fireball" instead of "Hadouken" in SFII, and "Hurricane Kick" etc.

This should maybe be incorporated into the article somehow, or in the individual characters articles, once we can be certain of what the two characters from China say. Moved to Street Fighter (video game) 67.5.194.246 03:56, 18 November 2005 (UTC)

Shouldn't this be at Street Fighter series or Street Fighter (series), with Street Fighter being a disambiguation page for the films and so on? Are Linux screenshots necessary?

No. Just looks like some cheap advertising to me. Even the word Linux has been highlighted in italics. Nerval, I don't mind the one screenshot but I don't approve of you pasting advertisements for your operating system everywhere. Besides, it's just an emu. At least remove the mention of 'linux' in every single caption. These are emulations of arcade games. Not linux. The screenshots are totally inappropriate, I agree - As for Street Fighter Alpha 3 for example, it's just wrong for a screenshot of a game in "384 x 224"-resolution to be 1280x1024, 728kb in size and to show more of the firefox browser than of the actual game.

Took new ingame screenshots and replaced the old ones. Added two of the three linux-screenshots to the category "Orphaned unfree images" because they're no longer used. Going to remove them next week (tag them for speedy deletion). elias.hc 20:21, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

Ouch I see this late :) I don't mind those screenshots being removed at all, I just took those screenshots under my computer and I'm not sure about copyright issues. I mean, I did use this operating system and that program to get that screenshot; would it be okay if I didn't mention it? If it is, then I should have presented only the picture. Ancient one

In super street figher tubo if you play throught the game as M.bison a narative starts about him ruling the world then bison himself seas that not even the ancient one dared to stop him. i was wondering who he was talking about i didnt find it in eny of the articals. I personaly thought it might be oro.

  Bison refers to an ancient one who didn't dare to challenge him in his SF2 ending. But that was something darn Capcom of USA added in. At any rate, he no longer mentions this ancient one in his SF2 Revival ending.

When to use Ansatsuken in Articles

I posted in this article's talk page since it may impact several SF articles. Currently, the Ansatsuken page is set for a massive overhaul to meet with Wikipedia standards. One of the main complaints was that sources were necessary so that the information in the article could be verified. We're working on that. The other complaint, which elicited the delete notice in the first place was how the term "Ansatsuken" was used. The question will impact how other information within the "shotos" articles will be presented, especially those who linked and make references to that page. For those who are not aware of the issue, "Ansatsuken" is not the real name of the shotos' fighting style. Capcom of Japan has never given it a name. The term "Ansatsuken" refers to any hard style of martial art that focuses on killing an opponent. People in other articles use the word as gospel for the official name of the "shotos" style. So should we just do away with referring to "ansatsuken" in any of the other articles in preference for an equally generic English name, like "Goutetsu's Martial Art"? It would relieve the problem of properly reffering to the shotos' martial arts in articles without leading readers on into thinking this is the actual martial art's name, or going through the rigmarole of explaining "ansatsuken" to people unfamiliar with the term. Also, could other users reading this put their votes in about the article and whether it should be deleted or suggest some ways to improve it?--BB Mofo 17:04, 12 March 2006 (UTC)

I think that it should be kept as Ansatsuken, only due to the fact that in faqs across the internet the style is reffered to as such, even w/o official statement from Capcom. That said, fans that know enough about the series at least know what someone is reffering to when they say "Ansatsuken". Needs a major cleanup!

Character Page names

I have just gone through a process of removing character's full names from the article titles (see Talk:E. Honda). Please do not move the articles back as this is the correct method, I will get around to doing the same for other character pages from other games (Soul Edge, Samurai Shodown etc) later on. There was no need for extra information in the page titles, as the full names are not the most common names. Mr.bonus 14:05, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

The full names are not common enough to warrant them to be on the article's title, and even if they were, they're nowhere near as common as the name the characters always go by. How many times have you read Sakura Kasugano in a Capcom game as opposed to just Sakura? Unless you are a hardcore fan of the series you won't even know the character's last names (and even then, simply being a hardcore fan isn't enough, as you have to delve into outside sources to even find these names - just try and find one instance in a Capcom game where Rolento or Sakura’s last names are revealed. People were trying to include extra biograhical information in the article title. Why not have the page titled "Sakura (16 year old girl)"? The pages must be named after the names the characters most often go by in the games. Ken for example, has been officially named Kan Masters 1 time (US translated Alpha 3 introduction story), he has been named just Ken every single time he has appeared (player select, story text, name at top of screen, endings, everywhere - the character is called Ken). Plus the pages will never match if you have half having the only just canon last names visible and pages with just the first names. Mr.bonus 23:36, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

I have always been frustrated by the page names as well. When the characters are listed on the games or in the instruction booklets they are always just the first names. Ryu, Ken, E.Honda, Cammy - never full names. So why should the articles be titled after a less common name. I have always been a SF fan and even I have never even heard of most of the surnames until I saw them on here, and if I wanted to find them out, I wouldn't expect to read the page title, but the article itself. I have mixed feelings about this one. On one hand, there are characters whose full names are well-known enough that using them as the main name shouldn't be much of a problem and are in fact preferable over simply having "Character's Name (Title)", like Ken Masters. Then there are character with obscure full names who are only mentioned once in the series and never again. Unless you had that Street Fighter Zero 2 Secret File pamphlet distributed in Japan, there's no way of knowing that Rolento F. Schugerg is the character's full name. Even at that, his backstory in that pamphlet was later contradicted in several ways in the actual games and his full name was never mentioned again. Cammy White only used her full name during the Street Fighter II series (in Alpha, she had no surname) and Yun and Yan's full name are only inferred through the games (but never actually stated). Yes, some names are pretty common, but not as common as the name they always go by. Plus, I don't see a problem having it as Ken (Street Fighter), he is known as Ken from Street Fighter. Ken Masters is still a less used name than Ken off of Street Fighter (plus Masters was only invented after a lawsuit with Barbie). And why not have them all match? As you said, Rolento F. Schugerg and Cammy White are too uncommon to name the pages after, so just have them all as the most common names and don't get into whose full names are common enough to name the pages after them. Merging character articles

I don't know how many people actually visit this article, but does anyone care if I merge small character articles(like 35 or so) to the List of Street Fighter characters? A lot of these characters really have nothing that warrents an article. Nemu 12:52, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

I actually agree. Most of the pages are just stubs filled with nothing but in-universe crap and unsourced statements of what is and isn't canon. The only characters I could see deserving their own stand-alone articles are the ones from SF2. Jonny2x4 19:12, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

EX Series

Can someone edit the menu bar with the listings of the games to put Street Fighter EX in a seperate section from the main games? Capcom has said that the EX series is a seperate continuity from the main series, and its listing among the main games could confuse readers into taking the EX series as part of the canon.--70.177.180.141 (talk) 12:36, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

I have heavily edited and redrafted the Street Fighter bit, removing a lot of information that can be found in the main article and keeping only the stuff relevant to the game series. Street Fighter IV Animated Film

Sometimes, a marketing promotion becomes so popular that it gains a life of its own. This has proved to be the case for Street Fighter IV. As part of the promotion for the game, Capcom has been releasing short anime clips that depict what happened to the warriors after Street Fighter II. At the 2008 Tokyo Game Show, producer Yoshinori Ono revealed that the promotional clips have been such a success that a full-length version of the anime is now in production.

According to Ono, the feature-length anime is scheduled to run around 50 to 60 minutes, despite cuts in the script to shorten its length. While the anime is long enough to sell as a product of its own, Ono instead plans to tie its release with Street Fighter IV, though details haven't been decided as of yet.

The City Hunter movie Street Fighter reference

Characters

Can somebody please stop adding Japanese flags to all the characters? Akuma and Gouken have never been confirmed Japanese (Akuma has appeared in Thailand, China, Japan, and his own island in the south Pacific). Character table extension

I notice the last column of the table reads Total Number of Appearances, and of course this isn't the whole story. How about adding a column before this one, called something like "Further appearances", which would list the number of other non-SF games that they have been in (eg, Capcom Fighting Jam, Fighting Layer, etc). Name translations

It is noted in the article that some boss characters had their names changed when SF2 was released outside of Japan. However, once this has been mentioned, and a note made that Worldwide names are used in the article, the characters do not then need to be called by a double name whenever they are mentioned. Features

Street Fighter II was the first one-on-one fighting game to give players a choice from a variety of player characters with different moves, an option which created hitherto unknown levels of depth and replay value for an arcade game. Each player character had a fighting style with approximately 30 or more moves (including then-new grappling moves such as throws) as well as two or three special attacks per character.

Character Chart

I was looking at the character chart and do not understand the numbering used. At the bottom a 1 indicates they're an NPC but all characters have 1's in their boxes. Adon has a 3 in his box for Street Fighter 4 which is also false (3 indicates only in cutscenes or backgrounds), as he was added in Super Street Fighter 4. Maybe I'm missing something but this information is either incorrect or fale.

"Numbers indicate the game number within a series of their first appearance." For example, Akuma has a 5 for SFII because he appeared in the 5th version of it, which was Super Turbo. The letters, not the number, show who is playable, who is an NPC, etc. But I understand where you're coming from. It's not exactly the best table in Wikipedia. Images in article

I am going to change the images on this page when I get around to it. When snapshots are taken of certain Capcom games, they are letterboxed for some reason, and stretching them in Photoshop blurs the image. I will correct the images to the correct 4:3 ratio and still keep the sharpness and also take better screenshots that represent the games better (rather than 2 images of Ken stood there doing nothing). Being an unofficial film, this clearly doesn't have much importance to the franchise as a whole. It's interesting as a trivial tid-bit but not really worthy of an article in and of itself. Question on the series' canonicity

Hello, I just wanted to bring this up and hear the admins' thoughts on this. According to Strugler (who runs the 2D fighting game site Hadoken.net), in a SFV-related article posted on February 11 2016, he was in contact with Capcom, UDON and a source who is appearently "close to Ono" and 'confirms' that the following three notes here are canon.

• The SFIV aftermath videos (C. Viper's shows how M. Bison was defeated at the end of SFII).
• Street Fighter IV: The Ties That Bind and the Super Street Fighter IV OVA (the Juri anime).
• Many of the Street Fighter Alpha 2 endings. Strugler stated the site will have another article which will go through which ones are canon (I have yet to see this article though).

The reliability of Strugler (and this source who he says is close to Ono) can be questioned, I for one am not familiar with him and have doubts myself (the anime movies I believe, I knew that from earlier. Split Hadouken into an altogether separate article

@SNAAAAKE!!: You'll need a better title, such as Hadouken (Street Fighter). Hadouken is a DAB page with three valid entries, and there seems no reason to think that the Street Fighter meaning (or any other) is WP:PTOPIC. The band Hadouken! is getting a thoroughly respectable 94 views a day compared with 152 for the DAB page (page view analysis). If all those readers are looking for the Street Fighter meaning, that's still only 60%.

I agree that the inclusion of Hadouken in Street Fighter unbalances the article. If you can find the sources, go ahead and add them, then WP:BOLDly split the section out, update both the link on the DAB page and the hatnote in Hadouken!, and then add the new article, perhaps using {{main}} links, to other relevant articles. If you do that, I'd expect the number of DAB page views to drop - both main articles will show up as suggestions in the search box, helping readers get where they want quickly.
