Marvel Cinematic Universe?

I have a hard time believing this isn't going to be a Phase 3 MCU film. I was reading this and the Inquisitr says it is a Phase 3 film. Also, considering that Marvel pushed Black Panther, etc a few months back it only makes sense that it is a Phase 3 film. Or are we waiting until like Marvel unveils an "official list" of Phase 3 films? Eric - Contact me please. Production Info

I'm not sure if this belongs or not, but Amy Pascal's new company that will produce the new Spider-Man film is called Pascal Pictures and will be run by Rachel O'Connor. DinoSlider (talk) 03:44, 16 April 2015 (UTC)

That is one of the reasons I started the talk entry instead of simply adding it. However, there are plenty of sources that state that she would be starting her own production company to produce movies (including Spider-Man) for Sony (examples here and here). IGN source can't be used because the info/report trances back to Latino Review. (Think of it this way. Even if reliable sources report on this info, if they cite Latino Review as the source, the info is still unusable because Latino Review is unreliable.) I've just gotten back on the internet and haven't seen the Deadline or THR sources. Those can actually be used as follows: "In March 2015, Drew Goddard was being considered to write and direct the film. He was previously attached to Sony's Sinister Six film.[ref]"

Marisa Tomei cast?

I'm still leery on this, given that we have not heard anything either way regarding Tomei, and all the trades only indicated she was in negotiations. Agreed with Adam's point on the formatting, and Richie and Triiiple's thought to adjust as needed should it arise. I did note in the article how this was revealed, that it was a release for GotG 2. Erroneous Page

Potential title revealed

Per here, Sony has registered the domain "SpiderManHomecomingTheMovie", which could potentially be the full title of the film (so Spider-Man Homecoming or Spider-Man: Homecoming). Just to be safe, I'm going to make both redirects, and add them to my watch to ensure we don't have users trying to create the articles there. Filming

By at least June 20. See two threads above this. They are occupying the same studio (Pinewood Atlanta) as GotG 2, and they are finishing on June 17. Additionally, I always make a "Filming checklist" post on the draft article talk about 7-10 days before the known date of filming, so all users watching are aware and know what has to be done to get the article in mainspace. Wait until we know what's actually happening. We do not include rumors about who each actor is playing. And Comicbook.com's source indicates an original character similar to Ganke, which doesn't rule out the possibility of the real Ganke appearing in a future film. Move to mainspace checklist

Hi all. Sorry for not adding this sooner. I've been a bit busy in life at the moment. Anyways, we are approaching the start of filming. If we don't hear anything in the next couple of days, the article should be moved on June 20, because we have this source stating filming with extras will begin then.

1. Move to the mainspace! This can happen in two ways: contact an admin to perform the move (which requires the deletion of [the article] in the mainspace). User:Czar has been helpful in the past to moving the draft. OR place {{db-move|1=[draft page]|2=Filming has begun on the film, allowing it to enter the mainspace per [[WP:NFF]].}} at Spider-Man: Homecoming. DO NOT CUT AND PASTE!  Done
   1. If the moving admin does not do this, be sure to remove {{Draft article}} and unhide the categories.  Done
2. Change the template at List of Marvel Cinematic Universe films section and Spider-Man in film#Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) from {{further}} to {{main}}.  Done
3. Unhide the logo.  Done

Stan Lee cameo?

Stan Lee revealed he was recently in Atlanta to film cameos for three films. Is it too much WP:OR or WP:SYNTH to say he has a cameo here, despite him not explicitly saying this film? This and Guardians 2 are the only Marvel films that are down in Atlanta now, so that covers two of the film. Selenis Leyva cast

Set photos seem to show that Selenis Leyva has been cast in the film, potentially as one of Parker's teachers. Just wanted to note so we can be on the look out for reputable sources confirming this. Deadline sourcing

There seems to be difficulty in way of adding info based off Deadline sourcing. Deadline has been used and considered one of the most reliable sources to use when it comes to casting. Why are we questioning their inclusion of info like Logan Marshall-Green being in the film and Keaton playing Vulture? Deadline a lot of the time is the lead breaker of film news such as this. If Marshall-Green wasn't confirmed for it, they wouldn't have include him as a "recent addition to the cast". Rusted AutoParts 04:50, 22 June 2016 (UTC)

THR had the exclusive on Marshall-Green, which stated he was in negotiations. Variety also backed up this report as being in negotiations. As for the Vulture, Deadline first reported this role as such for Keaton, from sources which makes a difference, and have apparently stuck with it. It has not been confirmed yet that this is the role he has. See Russell as supposedly Quill's father in GotG 2 as an example. The trades all said sources stated that was his role, yet Marvel did not reveal that, and at this point, it looks like it isn't his role. Creative control

According to Marvel's initial press statement, "Sony Pictures will continue to finance, distribute, own and have final creative control of the Spider-Man films". But more recently, Rothman has stated that Sony has deferred creatively to Marvel. Does this mean that Sony no longer has creative control, or has less of it than Marvel? Is there a reason, a guideline, that says WGA writing credits are the reason why Wikipedia should use an ampersand (this thing: &), instead of the word "and"? To be clear, the WGA does not say to use an ampersand instead of the word "and". They mean different things. As stated above, the ampersand indicates writers who worked together as a team, while the word "and" indicates writers who worked on the same script, but individually (typically at completely separate times in the process). This seems like a distinction worth noting and it is most likely easier and less cumbersome to adhere to this standard than to try to indicate it in prose every time. - DinoSlider (talk) 17:02, 26 July 2016 (UTC)

Please see this article Soetermans regarding what the "&" and "and" means in a film's billing block, in relation to the writers and WGA writing credits. WP:& tells us the word and should be used instead of the ampersand (&)... [but to] Retain ampersands in titles of works or organizations (ellipses and bracket text added, italics original). As indicated by the article linked, listing on this article the writers as "Jonathan M. Goldstein, John Francis Daley, Watts, Christopher Ford, Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers" would be incorrectly portraying the information to the reader because the writers listed as I just did, indicates that all were individual writers on the project, which is not the case (we have a source of the correct way in the article). If two writers work together for a project, that does not make the two writers a single unit right away. Hall & Oates, sure. Daryl Hall & John Oates, nope. Wikipedia is written for a general audience, so how would the average reader know what the use of an ampersand means in this context? Playing devil's advocate, here's a good reason from Newsarama for holding off (though that is an opinion piece, it is food for thought). Additionally, even thought the Marvel Latina Twitter is verified, there is still the fact that Marvel.com's SDCC announcement article did not equate Keaton to Vulture, where it would have been the perfect opportunity too. Also, FWIW, in the first Collider source Richie provided (this one), both Frosty (interviewer) and Watts only say "Vulture" in the video interview and nothing about Keaton. Zendaya and Mary Jane Watson

TheWrap source that broke this can not be used as a source given their wording. The article states: "Zendaya will be playing long-time Spider-Man love interest Mary Jane Watson in next summer’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” two individuals with knowledge of the project told TheWrap." The "two individuals with knowledge of the project" wording fails WP:SPECULATION. Of note, the "scoop" is from Umberto "El Mayambe" Gonzalez, of Latino-review/Heroic Hollywood (both are not reliable sources). While we can't judge the author of reliable source sites (which TheWrap is), again it is the wording in said article that prevents it from being used. However, if another trade publication gets this info, and independently confirms this without attributing the reporting from TheWrap (per WP:FRUIT), it can be added. Multiple "Shockers" possible?

Expanding on the note added to discourage adding Herman Schultz to Woodbine's character, per this Newsarama slide (#10 if it doesn't load directly) examining the trailer, they are hypothesizing that there could be two characters known as Shocker in the film, or could potentially be the name of a gang of criminals. Also, that leaked call sheet from a while back, had Woodbine listed as "Shocker #2" which adds a bit to the theory. The current source we have is the terms and conditions for a content with Goodwill that indicates the grand prize to include "tickets to the Picture premiere, if held on June 28, 2017 in New York City for Grand Prize Winner". I just came across another Sony-sponsored sweepstakes directly related to the premiere, here. In these terms, it states, "The Grand Prize will consist of a trip (“Trip”) for the eligible Grand Prize Winner and one (1) travel companion to Los Angeles, CA (“LA”) the opportunity to attend the premiere (“Premiere”), if held, of the Picture... Ned / Jacob Batalon

Looking at the Wikipedia Manual of Style entry on films, I think this is a poor choice -- [Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Film#Cast|see here]. It mentions "the prominence of the cast in the film" as a key factor in presentation, which the character of Ned certainly lives up to. Batalon's role has far more screen time, dialogue, and impact on the film than Zendaya's character, for example. She gets higher billing because of previous acting roles and her music career, not because of her prominence in this film. (Her character is likely to be far more significant in sequels, of course). Suggestion for how we could improve the article

I feel like the best way we could improve this article is if we refer to the main character a bit by his first name and a bit by his last name. Yes, nearly all articles for Marvel Cinematic Universe movies and TV shows often refer to the characters by their last names even though some of them usually go by their forenames (and on the rare occasion codenames), but the article for Spider-Man: Homecoming is strange in that not only is Peter Parker referred to constantly by his last name, but he's a teenager and therefore predominantly goes by his first name IN THE MOVIE. My proposal for how we could make the article better may not be one you guys would agree with, but I really think it might work well.--TheRocknRollPat (talk) 14:16, 7 August 2017 (UTC)

addition of post credits scene

I am adding the Captain America post credits scene to the plot since it is necessary to mention this detail. The post credits scenes have become a tradition for the MCU and not mentioning them does not provide whether there is a post credits scene or not. also while it doesnt add anything to the story, similar conditions have come forth in previous MCU film plots, where the post credits scene is mentioned no matter what the context. Marvel commissioned a timeline to be created and used it when creating this film. Clearly Marvel does not see it as an error, they simply made different assumptions than the fans. Spin-offs

I had added a section below "Sequels" titled "Spin-offs". The final word on what was originally announced as "Sony's Marvel Universe" is that each of the spin-off films about Spider-Man characters takes place "in the same reality" as the rest of the MCU. In the section I explained Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige's official statement: that though the films aren't being developed by Marvel Studios, they are as Amy Pascal stated 'adjunct' to the MCU. In the same interview Pascal clarified what her confusing declarations were a month before - that the spin-offs are a part of the MCU, but will not have crossovers therein (think of the Marvel TV shows for this). Upon finishing my thorough elaboration on the topic, with multiple reliable sources and editor reverted my edits without any explanation. This has been widely discussed, and you are well aware of that Disney. The consensus appears to be that Marvel aren't going to acknowledge these films, so the MCU articles probably shouldn't either. And even if they were confirmed to be in the same shared universe, we would not include them here. Does the Iron Man article end with every other MCU film listed? User:Adamstom.97 - Regardless of your Iron Man 3 example - the studio sees them as spin-offs, and the reason they have been in development now is because of Spider-Man: Homecoming's successes. Whether you use the word "adjunct", or acknowledge the fact that they are "in the same reality" --- no other studios' superhero films have been given that acknowledgement.
