What makes Holm a reliable source? edit

The Holm source appears to be an enthusiast blog. I'm not seeing evidence that it is reliable. -Indy beetle (talk) 19:34, 7 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

I contacted Michael Holm and he uses Russian language sources, particularly Yuri Apalkov's series of books. simongraham (talk) 11:02, 27 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • ... that the Soviet frigate Zadornyy was named after the Russian word for "provocative"? Source: "Zadornyy (Russian: Задорный, "Provocative")"

  • Nominated on the day it received its GA star. The article has inline citations to reliable sources; AGF on offline sources. QPQ not needed as this is a first nomination. Hook is short enough, and interesting. But the article says that the name means proactive, not provocative. Either the hook or the article is wrong. Simongraham or EpicPupper, this will need to be resolved before the hook can run.   MeegsC (talk) 12:12, 8 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
Great. Thanks for fixing it, Simongraham. This one is good to go.   MeegsC (talk) 21:46, 8 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Incorrect translation edit

This was previously raised in connection with this article's DYK nomination: the translation of "задорный" as "provocative" is a huge stretch that doesn't match the widespread meaning of the word in Russian, where it typically bears the meaning of "impassioned/perky", i.e. one filled with "zador" – "fervour/pep/zeal". The current translation cited in the article is sourced from a book written by a non-Russian speaking author who understandably couldn't have possibly verified the accuracy of translations for every ship name in a great number of languages. But, alas, WP:VNT prevails. However, is there anything that can possibly be done to rectify this error? Vadim Galimov (talk) 12:27, 13 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
