Consensus for image D to be displayed in infobox. (non-admin closure) SITH (talk) 18:37, 14 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Which image should be used in the infobox?. –Davey2010Talk 16:00, 22 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

(Editors/IPs are constantly changing the image so figured I'd start an RFC. –Davey2010Talk 16:00, 22 January 2019 (UTC))Reply

Image A edit

Image B edit

Image C edit

  • It's similar in quality to D, but it has a clearer background. Whether or not it is "natural" can be fixed by taking a different frame from the video. A is bad, and B could've been great if it wasn't for the shaky camera man ruined it. (I am not watching this page, so please ping me if you want my attention.) wumbolo ^^^ 22:23, 24 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Image D edit

  • First choice as it looks the most clearest and she seems more natural,
A doesn't show her full face and it's outdated, B is blurry (when clicked on) and it seems too close to her face, C looks okay but IMHO D looks just that bit better. –Davey2010Talk 16:06, 22 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Agree – D is the best of these. B would actually be good, if the composition of the image was just slightly different. A and C are the worst among these choices, IMO. --IJBall (contribstalk) 16:20, 22 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Agree – D Coastside (talk)
  • Agree - D is the best photo oit of the bunch. Fairly current, and represents the subject.Icewhiz (talk) 20:35, 29 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Agree – D seems to be the best choice --Ameelren (talk) 16:26, 31 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Agree – D is the best among the 4 different photos. — YoungForever(talk) 19:46, 31 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Agree - None of the images are great but D is slightly better than the others. Decent lighting, centered, and good quality. Meatsgains(talk) 02:25, 8 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Seems reasonable enough. I like that B is more face-oriented, but it also seems to be in mid-speaking; the lips are pursed kind of funny. A and C are just kinda ... blech.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  02:04, 14 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Sofia Carson's Lebanese origins edit

Sofia's mother Laura Char Carson is the daughter of Simon Char Abdala and Lorraine Carson as can be read in the source that was already attached in her article which links to this newspaper article https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1706&dat=19881209&id=SK4cAAAAIBAJ&sjid=PFMEAAAAIBAJ&pg=6884,3560477&hl=en

The newspaper in the source states that her mother's father is Simon Char Abdala and that her uncle is Fuad Char Abdala who is of full Lebanese descent as stated in the sources in Fuad Char wikipedia article. This would make Sofia Carson of Lebanese descent.Chris O' Hare (talk) 18:04, 26 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

I am also trying to link the correct relative to the highlighted linked "Char family" phrase to Fuad Char which is her mother's uncle and Sofia's grandfather's brother and who is more directly related to her since its her ancestor. Currently "Char family" is linking to Alejandro Char Chaljub which is her mother's cousin and not her ancestor but some editors keep reverting my edit.Chris O' Hare (talk) 18:04, 26 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

The article used as a reference does not directly state that Carson is of Lebanese descent. Making that conclusion based on combining other sources is WP:SYNTHESIS which we are not permitted to do and that prohibition is Wikipedia policy. Also WP:NOTDEFINING also applies as Carson is not commonly referred to as a person of Lebanese descent. The link to the Char family is fine and sufficient for this article. Geraldo Perez (talk) 18:13, 26 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

The first source attached states that the Char family arrived to Colombia from Syria (meaning Ottoman Syria to which Lebanon belonged not meaning today's Syria) which is basically stating the Char family is a Lebanese family which makes all of its descendants, including Sofia Carson which is mentioned in the article, of Lebanese descent. https://web.archive.org/web/20180612143730/http://www.jetset.com.co/edicion-impresa/temas-revista-jetset/articulo/la-barranquillera-sofia-carson-la-actriz-de-la-familia-char/129990 I didnt know that someone needed to be commonly referred as a person of Lebanese descent in order to state Lebanese ancestry in his/her Wikipedia article. Her article has the category of American people of Colombian descent and i suppose its because that is where her paternal ancestors are from but her maternal ancestors are Lebanese and American so I think that including only the category relating to her paternal ancestry makes her article a little bit biased dont you think?

Also please fix the link of the Char family and link it to Fuad Char as I have been trying to do. Fuad Char is the head of the family and the actual direct ancestor of Sofia not Alejandro Char which is linking to right now.Chris O' Hare (talk) 18:39, 26 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

I agree largely with Geraldo, though I would reframe its inclusion as WP:UNDUE if Carson herself has never made a WP:RS reference to this. If she's mentioned it, then it can go in. If she hasn't, then it needs to stay out as per WP:UNDUE (and WP:SYNTH). --IJBall (contribstalk) 18:52, 26 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

How did you find and take Sofia's infobox image? edit

I know it's from a Youtube video and that the video itself has the right licensing for Wikimedia but did you just take a screenshot? How did you input the info when uploading to Wikimedia Commons? Factfanatic1 (talk) 08:14, 8 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

A good source of information is C:Help. Geraldo Perez (talk) 14:35, 8 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Better quality/professional image uploaded recently edit

File:Sofia carson.png
This picture

So, I know the consensus was to use that picture of Sofia Carson currently on her infobox. All of her images are either her mid-speaking or just neutral, and in this new picture recently uploaded it is of both high quality and shows her face as well as a full pose; would it be possible to use this? The file is Sofia carson.png and I think it would fit better for the infobox. It is also more recent, of this year (2020). DaanaPlaato (talk) 14:40, 7 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

I agree, I think that picture is better than the one on the article. – DarkGlow (talk) 15:02, 7 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
This image is almost certainly a WP:COPYVIO, as I don't believe for a second the "Own work" claim. --IJBall (contribstalk) 16:12, 7 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
Tagged as COPYVIO, You cannot simply upload copyright images from the internet that isn't how Commons works. –Davey2010Talk 16:17, 7 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
Aaaaand deleted. Again please sure you upload images with the compatible licences. Failure to do do will see the file deleted. –Davey2010Talk 16:35, 7 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

June 2022 edit

Hi, so 2 of my recent edits were reverted. While I did totally get the first revert and the issue with it, and am totally okay with the second one as well - I would like to know what exactly went wrong, just so I can keep that in mind and take care of it next time, so a little elaboration would really help. In my latest edit, I had merged cells and columns that were similar (such as year, role, and note (e.g. television special or television film, etc.)), added a seperate column for references as I thought would be much cleaner and organised as some projects had while some didn't (refs) in their notes, so I thought it would be much better with a seperate column. Besides that, I added/changed notes (for example, a few projects have been executive produced by Carson and that wasn't mentioned over there while the cell for Tini: The Movie had the note that stated "as Sofia Carson" which seemt like a mistake by an editor, as Carson actually portrays a fictional character in the film) wherever important and necessary and added projects like short films and such that are different from the other projects — all in the filmography section and tables.

I would really like to know what mistakes did I do and what was okay/what wasn't in my edit.

Thank you so much. — Sam (talk) 15:34, 26 June 2022 (UTC) @MPFitz1968 | @IJBallReply

@Sam0006: In general, do not add rowspan to tables, especially WP:FILMOGRAPHY ones. That is the safest option. You did that again after I instructed you in the first reversion to just add the new role to the table. Secondly, in your second edit, you claimed "minor changes" when you changed the article by 6 kB (that's the opposite of a "minor edit"). Third, if you do want to make large changes to an article, it is advisable you do it section by section in multiple different edits, as this will make it easier for anyone who objects to some of these edits to revert them – if you make big changes in a single edit, you are forcing other editors to revert the whole thing, the good with the bad. --IJBall (contribstalk) 15:38, 26 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

I see, okay. Noted, and thank you so much! Happy editing! — Sam (talk) 15:52, 26 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Sofia’s name edit

Can someone edit her name? In an instagram post from some minutes ago she clearly states her full name is Sofia Lauren and since my edit won’t stick long enough for me to add the link to the reference part, can someone do it instead? Brendssofi (talk) 21:32, 20 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Brendssofi: Please provide link to the Instagram post so it can be determined whether it meets reliable sources criteria. My first guess is it won't. MPFitz1968 (talk) 21:34, 20 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

I mean she said so, how much more reliable can it get 😭 Brendssofi (talk) 21:36, 20 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
This appears to meet WP:ABOUTSELF (given the Instagram is from a verified account and she does clearly state that she is named "Sofia Lauren", named after "Sophia Loren"), but a secondary source might be better, given how her birth name is shown compared to her stage name. Do we go by Sofía Lauren Daccarett Char or Sofia Lauren Carson? There is that ambiguity that comes from the Instagram post. MPFitz1968 (talk) 21:58, 20 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
I think it is definitely Sofia Lauren Daccarett Char given how Carson is stage name only Brendssofi (talk) 22:14, 20 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
