Fair use rationale for Image:DennisDead.jpg edit

Image:DennisDead.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

What Does She Acctually Own??? edit

Cos, I haven't got a clue her occupation here and here, clearly state "Businesswoman" but what the hell does she own???, does anyone know?? —Dweeby123 (talk) 18:46, 8 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

The article says she still owns the Bookies, plus she has owned the Vic. AnemoneProjectors 20:35, 8 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

'Unhealthily' depressed? edit

It is my understanding that depression is an inherently unhealthy state of being, and as such, writing that Sharon was 'unhealthily depressed' is redundant. Would the IP editor who has been repeatedly inserting 'unhealthily' over the past couple of days care to discuss their own position? Frickative 19:10, 17 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Agreed. Saying clinically depressed would make more sense, though that was not diagnosed so is OR.GunGagdinMoan 19:37, 17 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
Completely agree, plus after "depressed" it explains the fact that she wasn't eating etc. AnemoneProjectors 20:45, 17 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Common name? edit

Should this be Watts?GunGagdinMoan 00:16, 22 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

GNews has 4 hits for '"Sharon Rickman" EastEnders' , 8 for Mitchell and 91 for Watts, so I definitely support a move. Frickative 00:37, 22 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
Google web has similar results (only on a larger scale) (though only if you add "-Wikipedia" to the search). Besides, she was Rickman for about 5 minutes. –AnemoneProjectors– 00:43, 22 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Occupation date on "Businesswoman" edit

Okay so I've come here because on the main profile page it says Businesswoman (since 2001) — well this is not the case she was a businesswoman a long time before 2001 - 10 years to be precise she bought The Vic (off whoever owned it) in 1991 when Eddie Royle was murdered by Nick Cotton although I'm not sure who she would of bought it off as to my knowledge Eddie had no relations but that's not what I'm getting at she has been a Businesswoman (since 1991) not 2001 so please allow me to change this without reverting cheers --EndersFan2012 (talk) 23:16, 19 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

I think the general consensus is that it is 2001. We go by consensus on Wikipedia, please don't change the date just because you don't agree or you may find that you are reported for this or the article is locked so you can't edit it. Please go with the consensus.--5 albert square (talk) 23:21, 19 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
Well okay only because I don't want to be blocked but I still say 1991. --EndersFan2012 (talk) 23:24, 19 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
I think EndersFan2012 is right. The Mitchells (as in Sharon and Grant, and Phil) bought the freehold of the vic in 1991 from the brewery, Luxford and Copley, and as such they were the first out-right owners of the Vic. Personally, I think her job title should be Landylady or pub owner (1991-1995, 2001-2002), because that's what she was. Businesswoman is too ambiguous.GunGagdinMoan 08:30, 20 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Sharon being Cora's daughter? edit

Before I begin, believe I do not believe all this tabloid hype and rumours that Sharon will turn out to be 'Ava', Cora Cross's daughter. However, do you think it is worth mentioning in Sharon's article, maybe in her return section? Alex250P (talk) 13:36, 17 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Probably not, unless it turns out to be true. We already know who Sharon's birth mother is, and it wasn't Cora Cross. –AnemoneProjectors– 13:44, 17 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
In the 80s the media declared that Sharon was actually Kathy's real daughter that she gave up for rape. That was bollocks obviously and we dont mention that.GunGagdinMoan 14:02, 17 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
Sharon has already met her birth mother on the soap so I think all these rumours are bullsh. Unless EE do some serious ret-conning I cant see it being true and not worth mentioning.Bleaney (talk) 01:50, 18 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
Looks like this probably won't be retconned as the Sharon Quiz on the EE site acknowledges that Carol is Sharon's birth mother. –AnemoneProjectors– 13:57, 21 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Great Work edit

Really impressed on all the work put into this article, especially by Gungagdin. Would expect this to pass GA criteria with little to no problems. Eshlare (talk) 12:08, 28 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Eshlare. Nice to get good feedback :) I dont ever tend to nom articles for GA because I am can never be sure I am available after revue to make corrections, but I might nominate this one.GunGagdinMoan 18:16, 28 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Denny or Dennis edit

I think this character should be referred to as Denny. This is what Sharon calls him, obviously to distinguish him from Dennis Rickman, so I dont see why we are not referring to him as Denny on here. His real name is of course Dennis, but if we were going by real names and not names used in the show then Minty, Nana, Deano etc should all be referred to by their real names too. Additionally it is confusing.GunGagdinMoan 15:10, 30 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

The difference is Minty, Nana, Deano etc were actually credited as that on EastEnders. Even though Sharon calls him Denny, he has been credited so far as Dennis. I know its annoying as we want to have clear blue water between the characters, but unless the BBC actually credit him as Denny, I dont think we should. For instance, Denise often used to call Libby 'Squiggle', yet she was never credited as that, so she stayed as Libby on here! Bleaney (talk) 15:52, 30 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
Couldnt an argument be made that Denny is the common name, seeing as that's the most commonly name used on screen?GunGagdinMoan 17:11, 30 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
I changed all instances to Denny in order to disambiguate him from his father (since there is no source for "Jr"). Those edits have been reverted (by AnemoneProjectors.) I believe that we have ample cause to refer consistently to Denny, per common name. DBD 17:36, 30 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
To prove its his common name do a source search. What DBD fails to recognise is that many sources have referred to him as Dennis Jr, many sources have referred to him as Dennis. Who refers to him as Denny apart from Sharon? Bleaney (talk) 17:43, 30 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
If Sharon refers to him as Denny, that means the writers refer to him as Denny, and episodes are a primary source which for in universe things such as this, would be much more accurate than external sources.GunGagdinMoan 18:42, 30 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
Yet the episode credits name him as Dennis - surely the credits are the primary source not the dialogue? Bleaney (talk) 19:17, 30 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
not in my opinion. Why should credits be a primary source and not dialogue? That doesn't make sense. It is doubtful the script writers who shape the characters have anything to do with generating the credits graphics per episode. Anyway, the credits are littered with spelling changes over the years. Sometiems surnames and forenames are omitted in credits. For instance Christine Hewitt was constantly credited as "Mrs Hewitt". Should we never refer to her forename in the articles because it was only mentioned in dialogue and not in credits? What about Billy Jackson vs Billie Jackson. Credits change.GunGagdinMoan 19:30, 30 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
Of course credits change... but then so can dialogue! It would be SO much easier if EE would credit the character as Denny, but at the moment they don't. I appreciate the current situation here is far from ideal, and maybe the COMMONNAME argument can justify a change. Please don't think i'm wedded to the idea of calling him Dennis... Denny would be my choice normally, its just the difficulty of what EE officially calls him... does the character have an official EE profile? Maybe that could help. Bleaney (talk) 19:37, 30 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
Doesnt seem to have his own profile yet, though I imagine it will only be a matter of time before the precocious irritant gets one. On Sharon's profile they refer to him as Denny and D R jr [2] I think the only solution at this stage then is to refer to him in prose constantly as "her son" or "Sharon's son" or Dennis Jr, because it is confusing especially when Dennis Sr is being mentioned in the same storyline.GunGagdinMoan 19:51, 30 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
Actually... That is kind of EE crediting him as Denny isn't it? I'd be happy to list him as Denny in that case! Bleaney (talk) 21:30, 30 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
Would something along the lines of calling him Dennis "Denny" Rickman Junior on the first occurance work, and then Denny thereafter? I'm aware it could look awkward though. Eshlare (talk) 11:02, 31 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
I wish they would credit him as Denny. But I reverted the changes because he's not credited as Denny. I did start a discussion at Talk:List of EastEnders characters (2012) but that was ignored in favour of this one - just wanted to point that out. I just didn't want to see every entry changed from Dennis Jr to Denny, because I think we should go by the credits. I know Jr isn't used, so I'd support just calling him Dennis Rickman instead of Dennis Rickman Jr, but we'd have to clarify this when mentioning both Dennises. –AnemoneProjectors– 11:06, 31 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

I concur. Shall we use (father) and (son) or the elder and the younger? DBD 12:21, 31 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

That seems clumsy. If the BBC are referring to him as Denny on Sharon's profile, can we not use this as a reference and call him Denny? Otherwise i'd go for Dennis Jr. Bleaney (talk) 13:53, 31 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Ian Beale inclusions edit

I have removed the Ian Beale inclusion that keeps being placed in Sharon's plot summary. It seems merely to me a means of including Ian Beale in the plot and it is entirely irrelevant to Sharon's plot. I wonder how many times Sharon has offered advice to people over the years? Do we need to mention every single one? Mark, Pat, Pauline, Ruby, Mary the punk?? It's not a salient point to Sharon's plot. It doesnt belong in Sharon's plot summary. If others disagree, please discuss here and we can come to some sort of decision but please use sense based on what is appropriate for a wiki article on Sharon, not what we want based on a desire to mention Ian based on preference.GunGagdinMoan 21:31, 5 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Sustained Criticism of the character in her 2012- stint edit

Shouldn't some reference be made to how poorly received the character has been in her most recent and on-going stint. It's not just amongst the online fan base several soap mags have taken the micky out of the character and have suggested she serves no purpose anymore. One soap mag editor even suggested on Twitter that they should sack Dean and hire Conchita Wurst in her place! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.0.100.14 (talk) 10:12, 17 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Sharon Mitchell redirect edit

I hve noticed that there doesn't seem to be a Sharon Mitchell redirect towards this page, which I think probabaly should be as it is the characters current surname. I know a Sharon Mitchell page already exists for a real-life person but perhaps a Sharon Mitchell (EastEnders)? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 185.57.212.119 (talk) 16:05, 21 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

I think I had looked at the fact there was already a page for a Sharon Mitchell and decided that, as it would need to be piped anyway, a diambiguated redirect wasn't worth it. But I shall create it now as we should still have a redirect. –AnemoneProjectors– 11:47, 22 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
