First season pass edit

I've removed the info about Electronic Arts and Battlefied 3 being the inventors of the first season pass, because the references supporting Rockstar and L.A. Noire pre-date it by the previous year. - X201 (talk) 17:09, 11 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

I've done a bit more digging and I've decided to remove Battlfield 3 and Borderlands because they were not instrumental in being the first, there's at least five other season passes in front of them.

Here's what I managed to dig up:

Mid June 2011 - Mortal Kombat [1]

August 2011 - EA Sports Season Ticket [2]

April 2012 - Uncharted 3 Fortune Hunters' Club [3]

June 2012 - Max Payne 3 [4][5]

Requested move 6 June 2018 edit

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: no consensus to move the page to the proposed title at this time, per the discussion below. Also note that Season Pass was previously merged to Season ticket. It is possible that the two articles under discussion here should also be merged, but a merge result is outside the scope of this move request. Dekimasuよ! 12:16, 13 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Season pass (video gaming)Season pass – The page was changed to a redirect page[6] per WP:2DAB. Season pass could be the name of the article about the video game business model with a hatnote with a link to Season ticket in a hatnote. The latter article doesn’t even mention “season pass” except briefly using the term “season passes” in a section near the bottom of the article for no reason. Interqwark talk contribs 21:40, 6 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

This is a contested technical request (permalink). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 22:00, 6 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Too ambiguous. To me, a "season pass" could be a permit giving access for a season to many sorts of things and places and premises and meetings. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 22:02, 6 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Anthony Appleyard: The article would have a hatnote redirecting the reader to Season ticket. Interqwark talk contribs 22:04, 6 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
The video game season pass is a very popular business model in video gaming, while Season ticket doesn’t mention the term “season pass” more than once—not even in the lead. It also has zero citations, whereas Season pass (video gaming) has nine. Interqwark talk contribs 07:06, 8 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Support. First off, note that Season pass (winter sports) is a redirect that In ictu oculi just created now, not an article, nor is it even covered in the article it redirects to, nor will it likely ever - it's a bad redirect and should be deleted IMO. Anyway, this is straight-up application of WP:2DAB. There's no need for a tiny disambiguation page when a hatnote at the top of each article will do fine. I disagree that season pass should primary redirect to season ticket - maybe that was a reasonable call in 2007, but season passes in video gaming are not a minor topic, as page view statistics bear out. The gaming article is accessed as often or more than the season ticket article. SnowFire (talk) 20:45, 7 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Firm oppose No way this limited use should override season pass, which should be restored back to a redirect to season ticket. I would not oppose merging Season pass (video gaming) to season ticket in order to expand the WP:CONCEPTDAB as the terms are very interchangeable. Its weird that theme park season passes/annual passes (which I would consider the primary topic way before the video gaming concept) aren't part of season ticket yet. -- Netoholic @ 07:37, 9 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Netoholic: “Season ticket” was only mentioned once on Season pass, and the article has no sources that mention the word. Well, it had no sources at all, up until just recently; now it has one source. There are still no sources that mention “season pass,” and I didn’t find any dictionary with a definition for “season pass” (not even Wiktionary), so I’m not sure if it’s a legitimate form of season ticket. If it is, it would be a good idea to, as you say, merge Season ticket and Season pass (video gaming).
Season passes in video gaming aren’t exactly uncommon things. It’s an extremely common business model in video gaming. Almost every AAA game nowadays has a season pass. Interqwark talk contribs 13:16, 9 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose per Netoholic. 142.160.89.97 (talk) 18:05, 10 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose as too ambiguous with passes for seasons of amusement parks, sports facilities, national parks, museums, theatrical performances, pay television programs, transportation services, campgrounds, parking lots, etc. A season pass is simply a synonym for a season ticket, and video game makers are simply using that concept to name their licensing subscription programs. —BarrelProof (talk) 21:12, 11 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

This relates to the above. Snowfire contacted me on my talk page complaining that no one would ever add sourced content to Season pass (winter sports). I really don't understand this - we know that our editor base is massively tilted towards video games and other trivia and that real world uses are underdeveloped. But the time it takes to say no-one will ever add content is usually less than just adding it here's a whole article, done. In ictu oculi (talk) 08:20, 15 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
