On April 1, 2018 Matsuoka became the new director of the RIKEN Center for Computational Science (R-CCS) and now oversees both the K computer (#10 on the Top500 list right now) and the development of the "Post-K" project, which is planned to deliver a Petaflop Supercomputer by 2021/2022. The Post-K project has a budget of around a billion dollars.
