Item correction for the table

In the feature comparison table, under third generation, model Roku 2 (2720), the remote is listed as being Wi-Fi Direct and IR. I own one of these models (2720X) and if it has IR capabilities I sure can't find from where. There is no lens or led on the remote at all, other than the pairing led on the lower face of the remote, and the remote functions just fine from inside a lightproof enclosure. Furthermore, no sign of IR emissions can be seen on the device when viewed through IR capable digital camera and pushing all the buttons one at a time. I therefore believe the entry to be incorrect and ask that it be corrected. If need be, I can and will disassemble the remote to make sure.

I went to the source but found no useful data that could be added to the article. Also, it would be nice if a secondary source could be found that supports your claim that Roku TV is indeed becoming more important to the business. SD slot on Roku 2nd gen Roku 2 XD (3050)

The description of this model states that it does not have an SD slot. Though personal research is not a sufficient source, I own one and can testify that is has a working SD slot right above the HDMI output. The current source is simply tagged as "Roku Support" and links to the generic Roku support page, which has no info on this as far as I can tell. The Feature comparison table

The box expands beyond the border of the page. It's becoming a bit indiscriminate. No current models lack Netflix profiles. Not a very important feature to mention in the tables. We could combine video resolution under one column and list the applicable video resolutions instead of the both/neither format. Similar could be done with the video and audio outputs. The table may or may not expand beyond the right side of the screen, because NOT all screens have the same aspect ratio or same number of pixels or rendered the same between operating systems. Big tables have always been a problem on Wikipedia. We should NOT merge columns, just to make things look perfect on your display. I'm not interested in making fit perfectly on my screen. I am interested in increasing the over all readability. Almost every side ways feature is added with its own column. If Amazon later adds profiles, do we then add a column? 8k, as I recall, was launched at CES. As per reordering it seems reasonable as well. microSD does need to be moved to the immediate right of USB. Though I don't care about Netflix or Amazon features, other readers might care about them being in the table, but I don't have a problem with deleting the Netflix column. Otherwise, concerning your issues, solutions are simple: 1) add Amazon to Netflix column, 2) in future, add 8K to the 4K column. The reason many columns are useful is to help two different groups of people: first time buyers can compared features of current shipping models, and existing owners of OLD Roku models can easily compare against NEW Roku models. Merging all video together defeats the ease of comparing video features, thus is why you don't merge a bunch of stuff together. • Sbmeirow • Talk • 11:04, 3 November 2016 (UTC)

So what does it do?

Reading through this article, I am left at a loss for what this thing does. It doesn't say. It gives a few quick over-the-top words of description, but doesn't really explain what this device is or does. Such is the primary role of an encyclopedia; one should not walk away from having read an encyclopedia more confused than before.

I agree. As someone poor, who gets all his TV via a rooftop antenna and has not had a cable subscription since 1974 (as prices have gotten too ridiculously high for anyone with an ounce of economic sense to pay), I an unsure of what Roku is, although it appears to be an interface device between the Internet and one's TV. Unfortunately, I assume that it is merely a way for people to get sucked into expensive subscription TV via the Internet. I hope I am wrong, and that there will be some things available that do not have an ongoing, monthly cost. SFFrog 10:42, 6 October 2017 (UTC)

I also concur. It looks like (from the talk page comments) the Roku folks are very diligent in suggesting "words" for this article. For some reason, they seem to have no problem with the fact that the product itself is IMHO poorly defined. I dislike having commercial interests acting via proxy editors as much as I dislike industry lawyers drafting legislation via proxy "representatives". It's all a little contrived in my view. Having said all that, if they're going to be that Hands-On, perhaps we could insist that at the very least, they could provide us with a 1 or 2 sentence, concise and accurate description of what the product actually IS and/or what it DOES. Briefly and concisely. That's the key. I guess ambiguity works for the Roku people, but it doesn't really do much for WP as an "encyclopedia".

I would also like to understand why this article is "semi-protected". How does that happen, and why? Why some and not others? I do not understand that. 98.194.39.86 (talk) 16:19, 28 November 2017 (UTC)

A question related to this topic: what is the point of using Wikipedia to archive every little "feature" of a device's evolution? Surely the Roku boxes from 2008 are near-useless (at best) if functional at all. This level of gosh-wow OCD should be reserved for Apple devices and their minions.

@Spintendo: in regards to the lead edit, the main change here was changing digital media player set-top boxes to streaming players since it would seem to be a more fitting word for the technology. No big deal if you don't see that fitting, but it seems to be the main function of this device.

In regards to the OEM partnerships, these partnerships are specific to the Roku TV, but if you see it being more fitting on the Roku, Inc. article, that is fine. Let me know your thoughts. It's not very important and it's highly trivial is what I can note about the change. Roku released roku os 7.5 when ever. Most that section is poor. Roku OS for instance is not a heavily modified version of linux. Roku OS maybe using the linux Kernel and that linux kernel may be heavily modified (which there's no source). This reads as if roku took Linux operating system and heavily modified it. The problem with that is there is no Linux operating system. Spintendo had suggested mentioning those partnerships on the Roku, Inc article but my response back is that these partnerships are for Roku TV and are more relevant to that topic than Roku as a company I believe. I'm wondering how many of these partnerships Roku announces in an average year. If this is a once every-so-often, game-changer type announcement, then I'd say it's notable. Hey, Spintendo - that is totally understandable. However, just historically, there's been on average one a year if that answers your question. Also, there's really only a handful of large TV companies such as the ones above so I'd argue that it's pretty notable news and worth including in the article. Confusion of Roku & Roku Products

I suggest changing the name of this page from "Roku" to "List of Roku Products and Services". This will mirror the setup for Fitbit Products. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Fitbit_products

When people refer to "Roku" on the internet, they are referring to the business and not the individual products or platform (as this wikipedia article states). This is akin to calling all Apple Products "Apple" which no one would do.

For Reference: Roku refers to itself as "Roku"and each product line has its own distinctive name:

I work for Roku and am making this suggestion because of brand and product confusion across pages. When people are searching for "Roku" they're looking for the corporate entity, when people are searching for "Roku Streaming player", Roku TV, or Roku OS, they're looking for information about the products and platform.

 Not done with respect, Roku is the WP:COMMONNAME for any of the line of products created by Roku, Inc., and therefore the article title should remain the same. New models out in October

New/updated models are going to be released soon. Not sure if this constitutes a new generation or not, but the comparison table will need to be updated. Generally minor updates, but a new "Premiere" model is being added to the lineup between Express and the Streaming Stick as a low-cost 4k-supporting option. Roku Premiere/Premiere+

Please stop editing the 2016 Premiere (4620) and Premiere+ (4630) models to fit the specs of the 2018 Premiere (3920) and Premiere+ (3921) models. They are completely different devices, Roku simply reused the names for these two newly released models. Someone keeps removing the 10/100 wired Ethernet jack from the Premiere+ (4630) feature table, which is incorrect. The Roku TV's are all licensed devices and not products of Roku. There are to many versions to place in a pretty little box and to do so would violate the rules about what Wikipedia is. Comparison chart should be removed or updated

The Roku comparison chart is out-of-date and/or just flat out wrong. The lineup for 2019 does not include the premiere+, for example. It also lacks citations for almost everything and when it does have a citation it is wrong. See the only citation for the storage size for the premiere+. The citation is for the 2016 version but used to cite the newer versions, as well.
