Moving to Article edit

Hi , I'm moving this to article space. Be prepared that other editors will likely take a look. Some minor tune-ups I recommend - the less citations from Poynter's own FB and personal blog pages, the better. If you can source that info from other sources I suggest you do so and move the personal links to the External Links section. You should also clarify note 16 (Rebelmouse). If this is an online resource, include a link and access date. If it is a publication, provide more info on issue # and publication date.

Finally, and VERY IMPORTANT Cindyyxl, Haileyalbert, and Rachlandry - you need to clear your image permissions (click on the image and see the warning at the bottom for instructions). This is a process and will require contacting the original owner of the image by email.

Thank you Seazzy! We have tried to reduce the number of citations from personal pages and have clarified the citation you mentioned. As for the image, we contacted the copyright holder and have forwarded the appropriate permission statement to the OTRS team. Is there any other steps we need to take? I tried to add the "OTRS Pending" tag to the image's page but I'm not sure if I did it correctly. Would you be able to advise on this? Thank you! - Cindyyxl (talk) 04:39, 14 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
Don't worry about the image tag for now - someone else will probably get to it. If they take it down you can replace it once you get permission. You should look into articles where you can add a mention of Poynter and link to this page, which will help it stick. For now, tho, it seems good. - Seazzy (talk) 14:57, 14 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia seems like an appropriate space to document the career and activism of Youtuber Rikki Poynter. The type of online activism Poynter engages in is not likely to be recorded in academic spaces. Detailing her efforts towards deaf awareness is beneficial in a forum like Wikipedia where, like online advocacy, the audience can participate directly and collaboratively with the information being presented and others who are engaging with it. Beyond its interactive nature, Wikipedia also provides a platform that can evolve and progress as her work does. There are many great things about this wikipedia page. For one, the information is neatly organized into sections and subsections within the contents box. This information is also neatly cited and properly formatted.

Certain portions of the page would benefit from providing more context, especially in instances where Poynter’s efforts have likely contributed to the work of other activists promoting Deaf awareness. This could potentially resolve the page’s “orphan” flag by connecting Poynter’s work with other movements and online activists. For example, providing context while discussing the “#nomorecaptions” videos could link this movement with other hashtag activist campaigns. Making these types of revisions will also help the page focus more directly on the significance of each of Poynter’s initiatives, rather than reading more like a resume or list of her personal career accomplishments.

The page could also benefit from the creation of an infobox that would summarize Poynter's basic information. This would make the critical points easily visible for visitors to the page, and if a picture were to be included as well it would greatly benefit the overall appearance. Additionally, the page would be greatly improved with more in-depth research. For example, instead of just simply stating that Poynter "attended mainstream schools from K-12" it would be beneficial to list these schools. Even if information like such is not readily available online, Poynter has many social media links as well as a public email address which she could be contacted at in order to seek this and other additional information.
