Copyright issues edit

This entire article is basically a copy/paste from http://www.iirp.org/whatisrp.php, http://www.realjustice.org/library/bc04_wachtel.html, and http://www.realjustice.org/library/paradigm.html, among other pages. This article was created by what appears to be a SPA, Restorativestudent, and reads very much like an advertisement, and not at all like an Encyclopedia entry. Some serious work needs to be done on this article. In the meantime, I'm removing the majority of the text, as it is copied and pasted, with only one or two words changed here or there, which does not change the fact that it is still a copyright violation of the above mentioned website. Stripping it down to stub, since I was unable to find a single paragraph that didn't come from another website, nearly word-for-word. ArielGold 00:48, 27 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Addressing Copyright and Objectivity issues edit

I've tried to bulk out this article and address the issues mentioned above ArielGold, as well as declare my COI. The article "Defining Restorative" by Ted Wachtel from http://www.iirp.edu/whatisrp.php has been licenced under the relevant Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License, and I've taken great pains to make this as objective a treatment of the subject as possible. It may be useful to cross-reference the Wikipedia restorative_justice page to confirm aspects of the material presented. All that said, I would appreciate any and all efforts to improve this article and as a someone knowledgeable in this field, I'd like to continue to contribute to this page and cooperate with others. Tone of Overview/Functions edit

I've taken no action in the article, but wanted to state my concerns below: The tone of Functions subsection makes restorative practices (RP) sound as though it is a proven science, process, or behavior, when the cited source [1] clearly states that RP, "is a new field of study that has the potential to positively influence human behavior and strengthen civil society." "Helps to" sounds much more definitive than "potential to," though both phrases might be interpreted as Weasel Words.[2] Dymaxion (talk) 15:06, 22 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

I've made the change to "potential to" and I understand why either phrase might be considered a Weasel Word. There are more studies now in their final stages, particularly on restorative practices use in schools, and I do feel the softer phrase is justified. I am keeping an eye on this article and will add other citations as they become available. --Joshwachtel (talk) 12:54, 9 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Modifications to Lead Section edit

Added citation to https://www.iirp.edu/restorative-practices/explained article in first sentence. Included a sentence that contrasts RP ant Zero Tolerance.

Fflores09 (talk) 16:42, 14 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Added 'in fact' to draw the contrast between 'Zero tolerance' and RP. Changed word from 'repair' to 'mend' to avoid repetition of 'repair' used in previous sentence. Fflores09 (talk) 16:55, 14 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Paraphrased last sentence in Lead. The latter part of the sentence ('but researchers still struggle...') seems to indicate that researchers may not agree on how to carry out 'Restorative Practices'. 'Varying approaches exist' reflects multiple approaches. Changed last sentence in Lead from 'Restorative practices are a tool that have been growing in popularity since the early 2000s, but researchers still struggle to define restorative practices (or RP) as a whole.' to RP has been growing in popularity since the early 2000s and varying approaches exist.' Structure of Overview, History and Terminology sections edit

The idea is to restructure the article without changing its content. To this end, the original 'History and Terminology' sections will be separated into two sections: 'History', and 'Terminology'. In addition, the 'Overview' section will contain brief survey of 'Restorative Practices' in Education, Prison, and Social Work. Fflores09 (talk) 17:51, 14 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Added example of RP implementation in prison in paragraph that discusses prison in 'Overview' section. Fflores09 (talk) 18:06, 14 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

To complement the History section and reflect the development of RP policies in education, two sentences (about the adoption of RP in large US school districts) were added to the next-to-last paragraph. Fflores09 (talk) 18:22, 14 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

New section 'Implementation of Restorative Practices' edit

This section will include experiences of Restorative practice Implementations in the Educational System and the Prison System. 'Educational system' and 'Prison system' are headings under this new section. Perhaps in the future a 'Social work'--which would contain RP experiences in the social work realm-- heading could be added. Fflores09 (talk) 18:48, 14 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

New section 'Criticisms' edit

'Criticisms' section intends to include critiques to Restorative Practices from varying perspectives. Fflores09 (talk) 09:38, 4 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
