The result of the move request was: Moved. I'm also redirecting Resident Evil 3 to the 1999 game based on the below discussion. Anyone who disagrees may take this to WP:RFD. (non-admin closure) IffyChat -- 12:43, 20 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Resident Evil 3Resident Evil 3 (2020 video game)Nemesis is the real Resident Evil 3 for years until this was announced and having the remake (essentially the same game) to have this title is WP:RECENTISM. OceanHok (talk) 06:09, 13 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

  • The actual name of the original game is Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. The term "Resident Evil 3" is vague and confusing; New York does not redirect to New York City --Niwi3 (talk) 16:19, 13 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • RE3 Remake was based on RE3. Primary topic if I ever saw one.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 16:55, 13 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Support and move current title to dab per Niwi3. --Gonnym (talk) 12:03, 13 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Support – Current title can confuse readers thinking it's the original game. →Emɑdix © 16:06, 13 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Support The "Nemesis" part of the original game is generally not included when people talk of the original title, so "Resident Evil 3" should point to the original game, and this remake at a different page. --Masem (t) 14:40, 15 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Support to avoid confusion with the original release. Rezistant (talk) 15:11, 17 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Support The acronym "RE3" already redirects to Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, its clear that people think of the original name when they think of the title "Resident Evil 3". Jonipoon (talk) 16:02, 17 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Support - When we think of "Resident Evil 3", the first thing that comes to mind is "Resident Evil 3: Nemesis", the original game. Hansen SebastianTalk 00:18, 19 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Title edit

Shouldn't this article simply be titled "Resident Evil 3"? After all the original was titled Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. AnddoSolid (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 22:13, 10 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Controversy edit

A hk01.com article points out that the game also generated some controversy in China regarding the safe code being shared with the date from the Mukden incident. Should we mention it? Xyuehong (talk) 13:11, 26 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

This does not seem to be a big deal for now. The article explicitly say that the problem is with Chinese netizens' "heart of glass" (which means that they are easily offended by everything). We should wait for more RS to cover the incident (if there is any). This article however suggests that Resident Evil 2 is banned in China for "threatening national safety". Now that's interesting. Units sold: physical vs digital edit

It states here on Wikipedia that digital sales accounted for half of RE3's two million units sold, but the source cited for this makes no mention of physical vs digital. So, either the bit about digital sales accounting for half should be removed (as it's speculation) or a proper source for this divide needs to be provided. Create a separate page for Resident Evil: Resistance edit

I believe Resident Evil: Resistance should not redirect to this page as it is its own game when players purchase Resident Evil 3, you cannot play Resident Evil: Resistance within Resident Evil 3, it isn't exactly a "mode" inside Resident Evil 3.

Official Capcom sources have also mentioned Resident Evil: Resistance as its own game instead of a mode such as in the following links:

  • It is a remake of the 1999 Resident Evil game Resident Evil 3: Nemesis - "It is a remake of the 1999 game Resident Evil 3: Nemesis" seems a little bit better. I think it is clear that Resident Evil 3 Nemesis is a Resident Evil game.
Done
  • The game is played from an over-the-shoulder, third-person perspective and requires the player to solve puzzles and defeat opponents - "opponents" seem a little bit vague.
Replaced with "a variety of monsters"
  • The game's higher emphasis on moment-to-moment action and scripted sequences also disappointed some critics. - "larger emphasis" seems a little bit better
Agreed and done.
  • Resident Evil 3 was nominated for Best Audio Design at The Game Awards 2020, but lost to The Last of Us Part II - Losing to The Last of Us doesn't sound like materials for the lead.
Removed
  • The screenshot doesn't seem to illustrate the gameplay well. May be choose a screenshot with Nemesis in it?
Done
  • The player can interact with the environment to open doors, climb up ladders, and pick up items - "interact with the environment" seems a little bit redundant. "The player can open doors, climb up ladders, and pick up items" is a little bit more straightforward.
Replaced with "The player must explore the environment to open doors, climb up ladders, and pick up items." I think it's important to keep the word "environment" because the same paragraph also talks about the game's automap feature.
  • As the player progresses throughout the game, a variety of computer-controlled opponents will try to hinder the player's progress - "opponents" is too vague. I think you need to be more specific about what sort of opponents players will face.
Replaced with monsters
  • These disable autosaves, make opponents tougher to defeat, change certain encounters, and rearrange item locations, adding more replay value to the game - If we are purely describing gameplay in this section, "adding more replay value" is redundant and not necessary.
Removed
  • By January 2020, it was estimated that 90% of the game was complete, with the remaining work to be done being final adjustments - I don't think this sentence is necessary. A game is close to completion as its release date nears. That is always true.
Removed
  • while a new trailer that focused on Jill was released on March 27, 2020 and A launch trailer was also released, reminding buyers that Resident Evil: Resistance is freely included in the package with every purchase of the game - I don't think mentioning the trailer is a good idea because that is quite trivial and they are not really key development milestones.
I have to disagree here. The trailers are part of the game's marketing campaign and they are actually not mentioned in the development section, but rather the marketing and release one. They also show how the game was marketed alongside Resident Evil: Resistance. Also, some games are released without any trailers, so I don't think mentioning them is necessarily trivial.
  • In Europe, physical copies of the game were reported to likely be delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic - Then is it really delayed in Europe? Is there any information about that?
Unfortunately, I couldn't find more information about that. My guess is that the game was certainly delayed in a few European countries, likely the first ones that were badly hit by the virus.
  • GameRevolution agreed, calling the game short yet exhilarating, but also remarked that it only exceeds the original in presentation and storytelling - "GameRevolution agreed, calling the game short yet exhilarating, and remarked that it exceeds the original in presentation and storytelling" seems slightly better.
Done
  • Critics also praised the game's determined and likeable characters - probably need to rephrase this because "the game's determined and likeable characters" is written as if they are objective fact rather than opinions.
Fixed
  • especially Jill and Carlos, who were said to look human - What does this mean? They didn't look like human before?
Replaced with believable and realistic

Overall, a solid article  . OceanHok (talk) 17:00, 30 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the review. I fixed most of the issues you have raised and left some comments above. I will resume tomorrow as I'm quite busy today. --Niwi3 (talk) 19:51, 30 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hi again, I have now fixed all the issues, except for the one regarding the game's trailers, which I think are relevant to the article. Please let me know if there is anything else that needs to be fixed. Thanks. --Niwi3 (talk) 11:10, 1 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
The article looks good. I will promote it to GA status. OceanHok (talk) 16:18, 1 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Short description edit

Per WP:SDJARGON: "avoid duplicating information that is already in the title (but don't worry too much if you need to repeat a word or two for context)" and "avoid jargon, and use simple, readily comprehensible terms that do not require pre-existing detailed knowledge of the subject" lead me to think that just going with "Survival horror remake" is a downgrade in terms of explaining what the article is. For a non-gamer, "survival horror" could sound like a film genre and even if we want to avoid using "video game" there, we can probably think of a better replacement. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 10:38, 14 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Good point. How's "video game remake"?
Also I should add that I am the world's biggest fan of the plain and concise "[Year] video game]" format used in most game articles. It's just that it's completely redundant in this case. Popcornfud (talk) 11:01, 14 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
I do think just "video game remake" suffices even if it's already a part of the disambiguation. We shouldn't be making a SD less clear to what the article is just to avoid redundancy (I know you don't do that for prose). ~ Dissident93 (talk) 14:10, 14 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
Makes sense to me - I've updated the relevant pages. Popcornfud (talk) 15:24, 14 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
