Queen Bess → Queen Bess (disambiguation) – The overwhelming historical significance of "Queen Bess" is as a nickname for Elizabeth I, who is in turn the most important topic known by this name. • Oppose That Queen Elizabeth is definitely the most notable of the topics under that name should not be in dispute. A fairly common nickname for her was Good Queen Bess (which we note in the article), and so sometimes she is also referred to as just Queen Bess. However, the use of this relatively minor name doesn't seem to be the most helpful for readers given its current usage -- a google search, for example, brings up far more results for non notable topics like video game characters and just as many for other things like the wildlife refuge. So while I'd certainly oppose any other topic being the primary here, and think Queen Elizabeth should be on the top of that disambiguation page, redirecting does not seem like it would be most helpful to readers (not to mention I don't think we want to get even more crowded up at the hatnote).--Yaksar (let's chat) 17:36, 7 August 2020 (UTC)

• Oppose Other usages stem from a term is not a WP:PRIMARYTOPIC criterion, nor is WP:PERNOM or WP:VAGUEWAVE. Could set up a WP:DABTEST with something like Queen Bess (Elizabeth I) to see if there's any indication that the readership here is looking for her by that title. -- JHunterJ (talk) 14:07, 14 August 2020 (UTC)

• I think a dab test would be super helpful -- if it gave a better sense of usage I would more than happily change my oppose !vote. And yes, agreed, beyond just !votes saying they feel like there is a primary topic, we don't have much to go off here, so this would actually provide some helpful information.--Yaksar (let's chat) 14:43, 14 August 2020 (UTC)

• Oppose. The use of the term Queen Bess to described Elizabeth I is very dated, and not one many modern readers would use. I wouldn't even have been certain that's what it meant myself, it might also have referred to the present Queen. Even less likely is that anyone would type the term into our search box in the hope of reaching the article on her. It would also mean another distracting hatnote at the top of her article. It is far better for readers to be taken to the dab, with its choice of subjects actually called Queen Bess, which our readers are likely to be seeking, alongside a link to the Queen to cover the rare case where someone really is looking for that.  — Amakuru (talk) 06:53, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
