Merger proposal edit

I propose to merge Purple Mountains into Purple Mountains (album). It merely repeats everything already mentioned in this article, but with less information. Now that the "band" won't really have a future beyond this album and its release, it seems clear that the article for the Purple Mountains project doesn't need to exist. Also, the "band members" are sort of speculative since as it hasn't exactly been specified who is "in" Purple Mountains. That's a mistake on my part since I am the one who edited that in, based on who was credited on the "All My Happiness Is Gone" single. It seem there aren't any band members so to speak, just whoever played on the album is credited. Purple Mountain Majesties (talk) 16:37, 11 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

  • FYI - things are generally handled the opposite way in these situations - albums folded into the artist’s article, not artist into the album’s article. Sergecross73 msg me 16:21, 17 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
    • Yes, but this is a unique situation made even more unique recently given the artist committed suicide days before they were set to tour, which would have given more separate notability to the Purple Mountains "band". Now this musical project of theirs is contained only to this album. The artist article should probably be redirected either to this article or to David Berman's article. • I was merely pointing out how things are usually handled in theory. Looking over both articles, I’m not following the argument at all in practice. Both articles have plenty of sources and content. There’s no need for a merge here. Sergecross73 msg me 17:06, 17 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose Merge - plenty of reliable source coverage for both topics, and even if there wasn’t, merging the artist into the album article would be an atypical solution. Sergecross73 msg me 17:06, 17 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
    • They're the same sources covering the same thing: the album, its creation and its release. And there's really not an artist here, it's just David Berman using a moniker. Purple Mountain Majesties (talk) 17:30, 17 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
      • Friendly passerby here. Why not merge Purple Mountains' artist page into David Berman's and leave the album page separate? That seems like the most responsible thing to do. -Anonymous, 11:06 UTC, 11 Nov 2019 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.127.173.70 (talk) 23:06, 11 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
