Fiduciary Standard edit
"If using a financial advisor, require them to commit to a fiduciary duty to act in your best interest" is misleading at best. Financial salespeople may not be fiduciary, but they are also not considered financial advisors. I understand that the statement is one of Pollack and Olen's quoted principles, but financial advisors are fiduciary by definition. The quote implies that financial advisors may exist who do not have a fiduciary duty, which is not the case in America. Should misleading information be presented by the article as a "personal finance principle?" Wouldn't it be more appropriate to include examples of principles (not all inclusive) which are not misleading?
