Petit poireau antillais?

Pearl onions are called oignons grelots in French, as the link to the French article shows. I've read the reference to petits poireaux antillais and don't find it very convincing. It's in English, written by a traveller, and it's not clear that it's referring to the same thing. I've only found one reference to that name in French, and again it's in a non-culinary context.
