Intro paragraph edit

The intro paragraph sounds like a promotional brochure from the school. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 65.110.156.95 (talk) 20:46, 7 March 2007 (UTC).Reply

The whole artcile edit

The article looks like an advetrisement for UCI. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.218.50.50 (talk) 14:29, 3 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Working on it edit

I agree with the assessment that this looked like it was copied verbatim from a UCI or Merage School brochure. I'm working on writing this from an encyclopedic, NPOV. Please bear with me. KuyaBriBriTalk 18:57, 11 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

I've done my best to remove the advertising material throughout the article and will move the advert tag to one of the sections until I get a chance to fix that section. KuyaBriBriTalk 15:37, 26 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Some proposed changes edit

I'm a paid employee for the UCI Paul Merage School of Business and I have some suggestions to make the content of this page more up-to-date and accurate.

Extended content

INTRODUCTION SECTION Information to be added or removed: The school has a few new programs that could be added to the list. My suggestion is to add in: Master of Finance, Master of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Master of Professional Accountancy, Master of Science in Business Analytics, and BA in Business Information Management. Explanation of issue: The list is currently out of date. References supporting change: You can see the full list of programs on the Merage School home page: https://merage.uci.edu/

CALLOUT BOX Information to be added or removed: The callout box on the right can be updated. The current (old) data is from 2012. New data from 2017-18 is available. AACSB (the accrediting body for business schools) has new numbers about the Merage School that can be used to fill in this box. Explanation of issue: The list is currently five years out of date. References supporting change: You can get all the most recent enrollment and budget numbers from the 2017-18 survey here: https://datadirect.aacsb.edu/public/profiles/profile.cfm?interstitialComplete=1&runReport=1&unitid=54429&userType=All

RANKINGS SECTION AND BOX Information to be added or removed: New rankings are available for the Merage School. I would recommend removing all but the most recent rankings. These rankings can be used to update the callout box, too. The most current rankings are: U.S. News & World Report: 2018: Full-Time MBA program was ranked #32 in the U.S. and #19 among U.S. public schools. Financial Times: 2019: Full-Time MBA program was ranked #24 in the U.S. and #8 among U.S. public schools. 2019: School was ranked #1 for proportion of female faculty. The Economist: 2018: Full-Time MBA program was ranked #37 in the U.S. and #52 worldwide. 2018: Executive MBA program was ranked #20 in the U.S. and #30 worldwide. Bloomberg Businessweek: 2018: Full-Time MBA program was ranked #43 in the U.S. and #19 among U.S. public schools Explanation of issue: The rankings are currently out of date. References supporting change: You can see the full list of rankings on the Merage School website: https://merage.uci.edu/news/for-the-media/facts-figures.html. And you can verify the rankings on these sites: https://www.usnews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-business-schools http://rankings.ft.com/businessschoolrankings/global-mba-ranking-2019 https://www.economist.com/business/2018/10/26/the-worlds-best-mba-programmes https://www.economist.com/whichmba/executive-mba-ranking/2018 https://www.bloomberg.com/business-schools/2018/

   Unable to review edit request

  • Your edit request could not be reviewed because the provided references are not formatted correctly.[a] The citation style predominantly used by the Paul Merage School of Business article is Citation Style 1 (CS1). The citation style used in the edit request consists of bare URL's.[b] Any requested edit of yours which may be implemented will need to resemble the current style already in use in the article – in this case, CS1. (See WP:CITEVAR.) In the extended section below titled Citation style, I have illustrated two examples: one showing how the edit request was submitted, and another showing how requests should be submitted in the future:
Citation style
Bare URL reference formatting:

The Sun's diameter is 864,337.3 miles, while the Moon's diameter is 2,159 miles. The Sun's temperature is 5,778 degrees Kelvin.

References

1. https://www.booksource.com
2. http://www.journalsource.com
3. http://www.websource.com

In the example above there are three URL's provided with the claim statements, but these URL's have not been placed using Citation Style 1, which is the style predominantly used by the Paul Merage School of Business article. Using this style, the WikiFormatted text would resemble the following:

Citation Style 1 formatting:

The Sun's diameter is 864,337.3 miles,<ref>{{cite book|last1=Sjöblad|first1=Tristan|title=The Sun|url=http://www.booksource.com|publisher=Academic Press|date=2018|page=1}}</ref> while the Moon's diameter is 2,159 miles.<ref>{{cite journal|last1=Harinath|first1=Paramjit|title=Size of the Moon|journal=''Science''|issue=78|volume=51|url=http://www.journalsource.com|date=2018|page=46}}</ref> The Sun's temperature is 5,778 degrees Kelvin.<ref>{{cite web|last1=Uemura|first1=Shu|title=The Sun's Heat|url=http://www.websource.com|publisher=Academic Press|date=2018|page=2}}</ref>

Displays as:

The Sun's diameter is 864,337.3 miles,[1] while the Moon's diameter is 2,159 miles.[2] The Sun's temperature is 5,778 degrees Kelvin.[3]

In the example above the references have been formatted according to Citation Style 1, which shows the author, the source's name, date, etc., all information which is lost when only the links are provided. As Wikipedia is a volunteer project, larger edit requests such yours are generally expected to have this formatting done before the request is submitted for review.

Kindly rewrite your edit request so that it aligns more with the second example shown in the collapsed section above, and feel free to re-submit that edit request at your earliest convenience. If you have any questions about this formatting please don't hesitate to ask myself or another editor. Regards,  Spintendo  06:02, 28 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Notes

  1. ^ The fault for this formatting error may have originated with the automated prompts used by the edit request template, which asks for a COI editor to "supply the URL of any references used". While the resulting omission of information would not be the fault of the requesting COI editor, it nevertheless remains their responsibility to supply the references formatted in the style used by the article.
  2. ^ The use of bare URLs as references is a style which is acceptable for use in Wikipedia. However, general practice dictates that the style already in use for an article be the one that is subsequently used for all future additions unless changed by editorial consensus.[1]

Guideline: It is normal practice to defer to the style used by the first major contributor or adopted by the consensus of editors already working on the page, unless a change in consensus has been achieved. If the article you are editing is already using a particular citation style, you should follow it.
