Request edit edit

Telfair Museums has officially changed the name to the Owens-Thomas House & Slave Quarters. It is no longer just the Owens-Thomas House. This can be confirmed by checking Telfair Museums' website at Telfair.org. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.144.16.131 (talk) 21:34, 6 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Wrong template. Please utilize the {{Requested move}} process

  • The name has already been changed in the article by the requesting IP editor.
  • Placing the edit request template after this change was made implies that further changes should be made, perhaps to the article's title. If this is the case, the request to change an article's title should be submitted using {{requested move}} specifically as a controversial move request process requiring discussion amongst the wider community. More information can be found at requested moves.
  • If this is not the case then the IP editor may disregard that suggestion and their request is closed.

Owens–Thomas HouseOwens–Thomas House & Slave Quarters – Reflect official name change as reflected in the text of the page, as noted in official web pages, as noted in radio coverage on NPR's 1A program, and in order to clarify more fully for visitors and interested parties what the museum is about. ★NealMcB★ (talk) 17:01, 30 September 2019 (UTC) --Relisting. Steel1943 (talk) 14:43, 7 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose. The house is the main topic. The slave quarters are an annexe to it. This sounds a bit like a marketing request (see WP:OFFICIAL). Keep the more concise title. -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:24, 2 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Slightly oppose. I've known about the Owens-Thomas house since the mid 1960s, and been there, and it was always called "the Owens-Thomas house". Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 15:35, 2 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Support. If you haven't visited the site recently or seen recent coverage, I wonder if that would change your minds. I resent the suggestion that this is a marketing request. I have no association with the owners, and simply heard an extensive national talk-show interview and discussion about the site and the tour of it. That made it clear that there is a very large focus on the slave quarters. WP:NAMECHANGES notes that after a change in name (which is the situation here, as of a year ago: 2018-11), there should be extra focus on such secondary sources, and "If the reliable sources written after the change is announced routinely use the new name, Wikipedia should follow suit and change relevant titles to match." Since I made this move request, I've found and updated the article with more information and citations from the last year which strengthen the case, I think. ★NealMcB★ (talk) 15:40, 6 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
    • Struck support. You obviously support, given you're the nominator! If it's not a marketing request then I apologise for the suggestion (although it certainly did look like one - this is commonly how such requests are phrased), but my opinion stands. The current name is the best name on an encyclopaedia. -- Necrothesp (talk) 09:53, 7 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
