I am well aware that both Soviet Red Banner Northern Fleet and Russian Northern Fleet currently link to the same page, but I have an article about the Russian one in the making. kallemax 07:19, 3 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

This has now been superceded. As a look at history versions of Talk:Russian Northern Fleet will show, the fleet saw no significant changes in 1991-93 and is the same fleet now as it was then. Buckshot06 (talk) 01:16, 13 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Merge

edit

Totally concur with proposal to merge pre-Soviet, Soviet, and post-Soviet histories of the Northern Fleet. All readers best served with a single continuous rendering of history.Федоров (talk) 02:46, 15 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Wrong coordinates

edit

According to Google Earth, the displayed coordinates in the upper right corner place the Northern Fleet just north of Finnmark county in Norway. Clearly something is wrong. Ximalas (talk) 10:41, 17 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Northern Fleet official shoulder patch

edit

The shoulder patch current appearing in this article is NOT the one currently in use. The current shoulder patch is round and carries a stylized depiction of the Aurora Borealis and the ribbon of the Red Banner award.Moryak (talk) 21:30, 16 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Petsamo (Pechenga) and the Winter War

edit

The article asserts that "The Northern fleet blocked the Finnish military base at Petsamo through the Winter War of 1939 and 1940." This is a rather curious statement since 1) there was no military base in Petsamo before the Winter War, only a detachment of border guards; 2) Russian ground forces occupied Petsamo at the very beginning of the Winter War, so there was certainly no Finnish base there DURING the war. It would be interesting to know where the above statement derives from. --Death Bredon (talk) 15:10, 14 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

May 13th, 1984 blast

edit

Maybe I did not read carefully enough, there seems to be no mention of the major accident that occurred, see the following: http://www.nytimes.com/1984/07/11/world/soviet-naval-blast-called-crippling.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.77.225.24 (talk) 04:56, 31 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Update 2020 - Order of Battle

edit

I have tried to bring the Order of Battle Section for the Northern Fleet up-to-date with the amendments and reorganization based on the most recent source information - at least that which is available in English. The section is not fully up-to-date, but most major units are now noted. Happy to adjust where there may be errors or more up-to-date information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.49.98.230 (talk) 20:09, 4 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Northern FleetNorthern Fleet (Russia) – There are more than one article with this name: Northern Fleet (Iran), Northern Fleet (English Navy), Northern Fleet (video game) and this article is not the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Pahlevun (talk) 09:55, 30 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

The Iranian formation was as of the 1740s, as powerful as its Russian counterpart in the Caspian. Pahlevun (talk) 19:13, 30 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Maybe. But was it actually called the Northern Fleet? In any case, nowhere near as well-known in the English-speaking world as the Russian one. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:37, 1 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose per Necrothesp. It's almost as famous as the Red Army, and none of the namesakes comes close to its prominence. No such user (talk) 12:56, 30 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. The Russian Northern Fleet is the best known and thus the primary topic. JIP | Talk 22:58, 30 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. The Russian Northern Fleet is the primary topic, naturally since it is a large and important fleet belonging to a great power and has been for like 200 years. The Iranian Northern Fleet has been important but isn't now, does not belong to a great power, is landlocked, and is small. which is why it (in addition to not being European) it is less known. The video game and medieval English fleet are very obscure, and the old Northern Fleet military district is pretty much tied to the Northern Fleet.
I made a disambig page and added a hatnote for it to the top of this article, and that should be sufficient IMO. Herostratus (talk) 05:59, 1 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
