New pic

  • What I think should be changed: I would request that someone the photo on Nikema Williams page to the file I uploaded to Wikicommons named "Nikema Williams Headshot"
  • Why it should be changed: Congresswoman elect Nikema Williams asks that the page reflects her most recent profile photo.
  • References supporting the possible change (format using the "cite" button): I am a credible source that works closely with Congresswoman Elect Williams. The photo that we would like to be uploaded is campaign owned and copy righted. Thank you!

New picture
Good, thank you. Now that I can see the pic, I have a few suggestions. It's definitely a better pic than the one we're using currently. We always want the best, highest-quality picture for the lede. It would be ideal if she was looking directly at the camera, but not absolutely necessary. The quality is good, although the expression on her face gives me the first impression of someone with an attitude. She almost looks angry, and first impressions being what they are...
Still, the quality is better, and the background is nice. The problem with the background is there is too much of it. It would be better to crop most of that out of the photo, and give a portrait layout (taller than it is wide) rather than a landscape layout. For example, see Barak Obama, Donald Trump, Sarah Palin. or John McCain.
If you can do that, I see no reason why it should not be placed in the lede. That too is fairly simple. Just make the necessary changes to the pic on your own computer/phone. Then go back to your pic on Commons, and click the button that says "Upload new versions", and voila. Zaereth (talk) 21:21, 12 November 2020 (UTC)
Zaereth, Ivyreynoldss, I have taken a shot at cropping, see File:Nikema for Congress (cropped).jpg. Are there any objections to uploading the new file? Blablubbs (talkcontribs) 14:58, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
@Blablubbs: to me that appears to be a good crop of that photo and would be suitable for the article. However, @Ivyreynoldss, as you work with Williams, I assume you could take a photo yourself of her - in which case, you may want to follow Zaereth's advice above about a photo of her looking at the camera. You may wish to read Wikipedia:About you#Picture and Wikipedia:A picture of you.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Seagull123 (talkcontribs) 15:40, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
Thank you both so much for your help. I think File:Nikema for Congress (cropped).jpg looks great and would be so appreciative if someone could update her photo to that one. Thanks!!

It looks a lot better to me too. The background in the other one was too overpowering, and the off-centeredness made her look like she wasn't the focal point of the shot. The cropped version looks much better, like a portrait of the subject. I still say, Ivy, that the picture could be better. I mean no insult by this, because getting a really good pic of even the most beautiful of things can be very tricky. Camera's can never come close to matching what the eye sees. The secret to being a good photographer is taking lots and lots of pics, and then being able to pick out the few that really turned out great. If you work with her, and can get a pic where she's looking at the camera with a smile, that would still be the ideal choice. A smile is a powerful thing. (Most people don't realize it, but we all unconsciously mimic the facial expressions of others, because it gives us a sense of their emotional state. It's instinctual; we've been doing it since we were babies.)
However, lacking that, I think this is a better pic than the one currently used, so, unless there are any objections, I say go let's ahead and put the cropped version in the lede, at least until a better one comes along. Zaereth (talk) 19:42, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
I went ahead and changed it over, before I leave for the weekend. At this point, I don't think there's sufficient room to keep the other pic somewhere below, but it's always available in case the article expands. I wasn't able to come up with a good caption anyway, since there really is no info on where it was taken. Normally, I'd wait a week or two to see if anyone objects, but I don't see why they would. If anyone objects, you can always feel free to change it back, and we can discuss it here. Zaereth (talk) 02:20, 14 November 2020 (UTC)
Zaereth I have never seen this person before, but I like this photo. It doesn't look angry to me... the eyes are open and looking upwards. Strong, but hopeful. Usually lowered or furrowed brows denote anger, IMO. Also, the light has caused a "sparkle" to reflect in her eyes. Very nice. Thanks for your work here. @Ivyreynoldss: I've just set this edit request to answered, as the picture on the article has now been changed, but if you want to request anything else should be changed, please re-open the request. Thanks! Seagull123 Φ 22:00, 14 November 2020 (UTC)

(WHAT ABOUT HER MOTHER???)

I stumbled across this phrase in the section 'Early life and education', which I presume is a reminder to the writer to write something about her mother. I have since deleted this phrase, but like to remind anyone to write anything about her mother. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jordibont (talkcontribs) 08:44, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
