Untitled Songs are Precisely That

edit

On a serious note: it's not correct to refer to the untitled songs as "Usually Just a T-Shirt #__." The songs are UNTITLED. Many fans refer to them as "Untitled #__" but these are just surrogate titles for songs that have NO titles. Much like The Artist Formerly Known As Prince--that wasn't what he was calling himself back then. So, I'm going to edit the article accordingly.70.59.142.151 23:20, 13 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

OK, I went ahead and made the change. I notice the original author put the song titles in quotes, a good idea. By omitting the quotes for the untitled songs, no one will be misled into thinking these are the actual names of the songs.70.59.142.151 23:25, 13 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Time of recording ?

edit

I wonder how it was possible that songs of Niandra Lades was recorded during BSSM sessions, since band members (except chad smith) would never leave the house at the time. If the source is Frusciante, well let's not forget that he was flying on heroïn at the time, so he might not be a reliable source.

Just not to mention the fact that the article states that it was recorded in 1992. BSSM was released in 1991. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.166.210.129 (talk) 05:40, 6 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

First of all, during the BSSM sessions, the band members went home during the weekends. The album was mostly recorded during the writing of BSSM. All songs, except for Running Away Into You, were recorded before he left the band. I think this is a reliable source: [1]. Frusciante tells when it was recorded (in 2003 or 2004 so it's definetly a reliable source). I think the article should say it was recorded in 1991/1992. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.81.201.149 (talk) 16:00, 22 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Tracklisting

edit

I'm not aware of any double CD issues of this album. I've seen the original version and the reissue, and both were released on one disc. The Wiki article had the named songs and untitled songs listed as separate CDs. I edited the Wiki to combine them. Sheeeeeeep (talk) 17:30, 16 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm pretty sure they were released on two discs at some point, but I can't remember where I read that. The two halves of the album should be kept separate for clarity, but due to the obscurity of the double-disc version, the distinction of "disc 1" and "disc 2" should be removed. I remember Frusciante stating that he intended the record to a double album but it was ultimately too short (length wise) and it is released as a single disc. Looking at my copy, printed on the one disc reads "disc one:" and "disc two:" with the respective track listings following. NSR77 TC 19:25, 16 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sabotoge of shows.

edit

I don't think John was puposefully sabotoging shows. I read that part from Scar Tissue Kiedis' book, and I don't truly think John was doing this to be malicious. I feel that quote was taken out of context, and misunderstood. He felt he was just expireminting. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Fullmetalfunk (talkcontribs) 09:07, 8 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

John has talked about, at length, how much he hated being in the band during the BSSM tour. NSR77 TC 15:18, 8 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Article name & Johnny Depp

edit

Niandra LaDes and Usually Just A T-Shirt (with a capital D in LaDes and a capital word A) should redirect to Niandra Lades and Usually Just a T-Shirt, not vice versa. Source: http://web.archive.org/web/20071010131249/www.johnfrusciante.com/music/niandra.php (Otherwise cited 5 times in the article)

An adiministrator needs to do this because in order to move this page to the other, the page presently redirecting to here needs to be deleted.

Also, quoted from that site:

After departing from the Chili Peppers, John found himself in his LA house, strung out on drugs and severely depressed. Friends such as Gibby Haynes (Lead singer of the Butthole Surfers), River Phoenix (Talented young actor, died in 1993 from a Heroin Overdose at Johnny Depp's club, the Viper Room) & Perry Farrell (Lead singer of Jane's Addiction & Porno for Pyros) persuaded John to release a solo album, saying that there wasn't good music anymore.

This reappears nearly word for word in the main article, just that River Phoenix is replaced by Johnny Depp. If the Johnny Depp part can't be sourced, it should be removed. Gershake (talk) 22:12, 23 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

7.5 years later, I've finally filed this move request on WP:RM. :) Special:PermanentLink/816392929Quuxplusone (talk) 01:52, 21 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Sourcing isn't quite up to the FA cut

edit

It looks like a number of these sources would be challenged in a modern FAC, such as:

  • invisible-movement.com (an unofficial fan website, it appears)
  • Rockfreakinapotamus
  • Feelnumb
  • Superior Viaduct
  • Discogs is user-generated and should not be used in a FA at all.

Considering that a number of the other sources are primary, including Kiedis, johnfrusciante.com, and a number of interviews, the degree of unreliable/primary sources used in this article would be heavily challenged at a modern FA sources review. If the sourcing is not improved, a featured article review may be necessary. Hog Farm Talk 03:14, 14 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Agreed. Additionally, the "uncredited" roles in the personnel section would need to be sourced as well. Sergecross73 msg me 01:52, 31 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
