Timing

The article presently states "(the first Friday to the second Monday in March)". Is this always correct? In 2011 for example that will be Friday 4 March to Monday 14 March - over a week. --Scott Davis ^Talk 09:28, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

Possible new external link

Hi, I moderate Culture Victoria. We have the Moomba story in CV which includes digital stories and historic images from Moomba. I've had a look at the guidelines for adding external links and thought that a link to CV would be relevant and appropriate. Moomba Festival of 1988

Hi

I just wanted to let you know about the Moomba Festival  in 1988.

It was the bicentenary year and they had a competition for princess and prince of moonba.

In your article it has it was in 1989 and you also have the wrong names of the prince and princess of Moomba.

It was a one off competition run by 3kz the radio station.

I know this because I won Princess of Moomba in 1988 out of thousands of girls in Victoria.

I was on  TV in 1988 on the radio and I also opened up ceremonies to start the moombah festival off.

You really need to change the information, this was a on off event. Moomba only ever had a King & Queen, never a Prince & Princess.

I cannot remember the Princes name  but I'm sure it wouldn't be to hard to find out.

I remember winning the Competition, I walked across to my Primary School and they announced who won over the P.A system of the School.

I had to send a photo in and 25 words or less why I wanted to be the Princess of Moomba.

So it was in 1988, the Year that Jo Pearson won, I was on her Float, i still have it on VHS.

The Prince and Princess of Moomba was first and foremost a promotional addendum to the Moomba festival's primary system of royalty - the Queens, Kings, and later Monarchs. According to the city's official history of the event, the primary positions were:

First introduced was the Queen of Moomba in 1955, and in 1967, the first Queen of the Pacific and first King of Moomba were crowned. At times, all three royals reigned concurrently, but by 1988 this gender-specific system was supplanted by a single representative monarch.

Entered into this equation was 3KZ, the Australian radio station run on the philosophy that long running and successful stations must "supplement music with news, sports, community services, stunts and on-location promotions that take the radio to the people in shopping malls, beaches, sporting events, entertainment halls and recreation events." Thus, in 1981 the "Prince and Princess of Moomba" began being sponsored by 3KZ. This title was not officially linked to the royalty selected through Moomba proper, but owing to their sponsorship of portions of the festival (through monetary donations and advertising deals) these "junior level" winners were, on occassion, allowed to ride and/or congregate near the "adult" winners selected in those roles. But that appears to be the extent of their association. The Prince and Princess roles are already well covered in the article. So the question then becomes one about the date: should it be listed as 1988 or 1989? My suggestion would be to place (c. 1981–1988) when discussing the Prince and Princess of Moomba, as that signifies an approximate timespan according to the 3KZ source. Hey everyone, I have created a page with all the winners I could find references for the Moomba Masters (water skiing). I could use any help with references talking about the history of the event. We could add some here to the Moomba page but eventually I'd like to open a Moomba Masters page. Zig and Zag?

Moomba → Moomba Festival – Per WP:NATURAL. Other than a spike during the event itself, this article doesn't really get more pageviews than Moomba, South Australia, which has significant long-term notability.
