Name of algorithm edit

I've renamed and moved this article from 'wave function collapse' to 'Model Synthesis' because, after reading into it further, there are a number of reasons model synthesis is a preferable name:

  • (1) The algorithm was first described in a SIGGRAPH paper under this name ~2008
  • (2) Recent academic literature has pointed out that the algorithms are substantively identical, the small differences aren't material. It also points out that Model Synthesis was the original name
  • (3) Merrill's original implementation was more sophisticated than Gunim's later version. In particular, it relies on rendering the model out in chunks, rather than all at once, resulting in fewer failed outcomes.

However, because 'wave function collapse' appears to be the popular name for this algorithm on YouTube, and even Google Scholar, I've added an "a.k.a" to the top of the article. There's also a redirect to this article. Jack4576 (talk) 08:47, 25 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
