Disrespect

edit

What a huge disrespect to Mia Zapata that the bottom half of her page is dedicated to the man who has been convicted of raping and killing her; with his picture and everything. I am going to remove him. If anyone has issues with that, create a new page for him. — User:Donutcity

This guy is still on her page. People are debating if he should be depicted as murderer or what, but the fact remains that it is a huge disrespect to Mia Zapata to have a substantial portion of her page devoted to the man who raped and murdered her. Seriously people. Donutcity (talk) 16:43, 14 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

True. She is so much more than her murder. Would be nice to have some more information on her achievements, etc. Givemedonuts (talk) 10:17, 21 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Jesus = Religious Death?

edit

Was he very religious? because it says her body was found in a cross like shape like jesus was on the cross? so was this a religious murder? Megabar09 (talk) 22:03, 6 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

I think people thought so because she was not only in that position but she was also found right by a Catholic church and I believe a Catholic rec center as well. 69.120.2.107 (talk) 04:33, 23 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Jesus

edit

amazing how the suspect was named "jesus"

Why is it amazing? Quite a few people, usually of Iberian origin, are called Jesus. I seem to recall a weird story though about a male nurse, a foreign national called Jesus, who works at a Swedish hospital, who was asked by staff to go by a different name because of the reaction patients got when told by medical staff "Jesus is coming". Which is kinda funny. - THE GREAT GAVINI {T-C} 20:05, 6 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
I believe that his name is pronounced like "hey-Zeus" Rock8591 21:45, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

Cleaned up some trivia, and fixed a few spelling errors. 64.91.126.214 05:38, 12 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Seven Year Bitch

edit

Given that we mention in the lead bands that she influenced, shouldn't we mention Seven Year Bitch there, rather than only below? They were initially more or less her protegés (which can be cited to Selene Vigil saying as much in The Gits Movie). - Jmabel | Talk 07:35, 28 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Body dumped

edit

This article says her body was found "in a park". I believe that is wrong: I'm pretty sure it was a then-vacant lot (now built on) near the Douglass-Truth library. Also, this says that she was walking home from "a friend's house". I'm pretty sure that she was drinking at the Comet Tavern, a well-known watering hole on the Seattle scene of the time, and, if I remember correctly, stopped by someone's place in that neighborhood (Pike/Pine east of Broadway). Seattle newspapers from that time are not online, but should be possible to track down. - Jmabel | Talk 07:42, 28 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Corrections

edit

Included mention of 7 Year Bitch earlier in article. Also included 'Comet Tavern' reference and corrected fact that she was indeed found in a then vacant lot (not a park). Finally, removed Nirvana bootleg reference which really has little to do with Mia Zapata. Currently attempting to find references for info used in article. I don't have a source, but I know the story from people who were close to Mia. 1) She was found in the street, not a vacant lot (and there are haunting photos to confirm this). It was around 24th and Yesler. (removed mention of friends house and offers to put her up for the night). 2) There was never anything that said a prostitute found her body, nor is that relevant. (changed prostitute>>woman). 3) Her body being badly mutilated is incorrect. She was beaten and strangled, but not mutilated and there was never anything that said she was posed in a Christlike way. (changed/removed). Seeing as there were no existing sources, and I went ahead and made these changes. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Fencod28 (talkcontribs) 06:37, 10 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

I just watched the bio. on it and they said it was at the end of a dead end street. the "mutilation" was bite marks from which they obtained the DNA from the bastard. the christ-like pose seems kind of out there. don't know where they got there info from. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.22.79.74 (talk) 19:50, 10 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

The Murderer

edit

Wonder if anyone is uncomfortable with the framing of this section and its apparent certainty that Mezquia is "THE MURDERER." I was looking at the Wikipedia entry on John Lennon and I thought the matter was handled more deftly in that article, which states that Chapman confessed to the murder, and reports the known facts relevant to that aspect of Lennon's biography without seeming to demonize "The Murderer" or single him out with such force. In the Lennon article, the facts relative to Chapman are contained in a segment called "The Assassination." In addition to the name of the section, the text of the section here relates facts or alleged facts that support the conclusion that Mezquia was the murderer. This is very important information, but there is no sourcing. ("Mezquia lived in Seattle at the time and his home address was about three blocks from where her body was found. He had a history of violence toward women, including domestic abuse, burglary and assault and battery. All of his ex-girlfriends and his wife had filed reports against him. There was also a report of indecent exposure on file against him in Seattle within two weeks of Zapata's murder.") Carlos_X (talk) 18:02, 5 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

In addition I have more information regarding Mia Zapata's killer as the following link shows below:

Totally separately, can we possibly remove the sentence that reads, "Since an employee at the Comet remembered her wearing her headset as she left, it is believed she was listening to music from her walkman and thus was unaware of her murderer approaching."? It really strikes be as unnecessary victim-blaming. 208.27.111.121 (talk) 18:34, 8 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

No, it's not. It's just a plain assertion of fact about the circumstances of her murder. There's no value judgment whatsoever in that sentence. Your objection is based on not on the factual accuracy of the claim, but on your subjective interpretation, on the subtext that you personally are reading into it. That's not a valid grounds for objection. However, as it happens, the claim is unsourced. Nowhere in the linked article does it say Ms. Zapata was believed to be wearing headphones. THAT might be grounds for removing it.Cromulant (talk) 19:36, 23 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

suggestion to remove picture and murderer bio

edit

I feel it's not appropriate to put this section in this article at all. Basic information could be included in the currently called "death" section. The "murderer" section got a kind of "this-is-the-beast-that-killed-her" twist. In her article she should be presented as a person on her own and not be combined in such a manner to the murderer.

Biographical data of him could be moved to a separate article, linked, and his picture being removed from the Zapata article.
