I'm not sure the URL needs to have Inc in it. Other companies like Cisco Systems don't need Inc in the URL. Having it in the title of the page is fine. But, I think the node can be renamed to just Medifast. There's no confusion there and anyone looking for the products gets a direct link there anyhow.

I see your point... the reason I added the "Inc" is because of the ease of confusion between the company name and the product name. Most people that search for "Medifast" aren't necessarily looking for the company, but for the diet. As such, I think it's appropriate to put "Inc" after the name as a descriptive identifier. For example, when people want to find information on a Cisco router, they don't search on "Cisco Systems," they search on "router" or "Cisco router" or something like that. --Jhortman 17:05, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I thought about it later, just forgot to remove the comment. The issue is that the Medifast product is the dominant interpretation of the term medifast, whereas with Cisco it's not. Thanks for manning the page as it were. -- 209.28.174.18 19:56, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Medifast Deaths

I have removed an edit by IP editor 70.137.81.118 concerning purported FDA findings that Medifast was responsible for some deaths. I was going to just put a {{fact}} tag on it, but I did a considerable amount of searching on the internet, including the FDA website, and found no articles discussing any reported deaths that were attributable to Medifast. I did, however, find an article on the FDA website saying the Medifast was one of the diet products that did an ultra-low calorie diet "the right way." That article is here. Given these circumstances, and the fact that the editor was an IP editor, I decided to just remove it. If the original editor wants to add it back, please cite your source when doing so. --Jhortman 19:26, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

I'm not a normal user, but I did come to wikipedia because I wanted to hear what it had to say about the Medifast Diet. Instead I was redirected to the corporate article. I was dissappointed that there is not even a stub article. Atkins and even older diets are here, even fad diets. Why not this diet? Lock it if it becomes too much like a commercial; but I think Wikipedia has handled harder tasks. Thanks for reading. The article needs more for sure, but unless there is enough notability for a "Medifast diet" article, only then should it be spun off onto its own page. There is barely enough material on this page.  Leef5  ^{TALK | CONTRIBS} 12:49, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

This article reads like an infomercial...

Any more detail about the history of Medifast

Medifast, Inc. was founded by William Vitale, M.D. in 1980. His products were sold directly to doctors, who in turn prescribed them to their patients. Since then, over 20,000 doctors have prescribed or recommended Medifast, and over a million customers have used Medifast to lose weight quickly and safely – including doctors and their family members.

The products are now available direct to consumers, and the company is now publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange (symbol: MED).
