The result of the move request was: No consensus has managed to form over which name is the most common English name for the square. • Oppose The name appears in thousands of English-language sources. "Maidan Nezalezhnosti" -Wikipedia: “Page 44 of about 2,120”. If you want to change it, please relate it to Wikipedia guidelines and present some factual evidence to support the argument. The rationale appears to be equivalent to WP:IDONTLIKE to me. I don’t doubt the abbreviated Maidan sees more use, but it also has dozens of other meanings, so the WP:CRITERIA of recognizability and precision support using the full name. —Michael Z. 19:59, 4 March 2022 (UTC)

  Is there any evidence this is the most common name for this place? There are more than two dozen Independence Squares with articles, and possibly many more in existence. A fair number of Independence Squares, such as Plaza de la Independencia, Plaza Independencia, Onafhankelijkheidsplein or Mustaqillik Maydoni are listed under their native names and Maidan Nezalezhnosti, the native name of Independence Square in Kyiv has now become the best known among those. Independence Square (Kiev) redirects to it and similar redlinks, such as the proposed Independence Square, Kyiv, should likewise redirect to it. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 01:03, 9 March 2022 (UTC)
