Unexplained revert edit

Jc21051979 (talk · contribs) reverted my edit from 21 October 2012,‎ without explanation. The reasons for my changes, which I left on Jc21051979's talk page, are:

  1. Changed Ave→Avenue, St→Street etc: I changed the abbreviations to the full versions for consistency with the other entries on the list, and because road articles on Wikipedia use full versions in the title (eg Mitchell Freeway, Mandurah Road). Also, the Manual of Style (MOS) section on Abbreviations suggests that editors "Always consider whether it is better to simply write a word or phrase out in full, thus avoiding potential confusion for those not familiar with its abbreviation. Remember that Wikipedia does not have the same space constraints as paper."
  2. Remove some red links: In lists, it is generally better to avoid too many red links, as they start to look more like a worklist for editors and article creators, rather than a list for readers, as per the MOS section on lists.
  3. Shorten the note on SR14 and put the old route in Decommissioned section: Text in the notes column is generally better off being shorter (if it gets the same information across), as long notes stretch the table and make other columns narrower on smaller screens. The way I reworded it let readers know that it had been rerouted, a provided a link to lower down the page for the old route. Similarly, the old route had a link to further up the page for the new route.
  4. Reorder the decommissioned routes: In line with the ordering of the rest of the page, I changed the order to National Routes followed by State Routes, in numerical order.

Jc21051979 has not replied, so I have undone his unexplained reversion. - Evad37 (talk) 23:09, 23 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

National Route 80 edit

@Marcnut1996

There is no source about the National Route 80. I've searched it up. Should I remove it?

State Route 142/Karratha to Tom Price Road edit

For the benefit for other contributors, I have reverted the blocked sock's edit which added State Route 142 (Karratha to Tom Price Road), which is now Manuwarra Red Dog Highway (M065 according to WA Main Roads' public road information mapping, though a shield would be M65). Now that they are using the new scheme, the lists would need to be adjusted to fit in Manuwarra Red Dog Highway, so for now have left it off. Bidgee (talk) 05:14, 21 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

I've added it, sorry, didn't see this until later. It is actually signposted at each end. At "warlu Rd" according to Google maps, and NWC Highway intersection, and at Tom-price Paraburdoo Rd and mine Rd intersection. Also mainroads M065 designation is almost certainly never going to go on a sheild, due to the clash with Eastern States method where M is "sort-of-Motorway-thing". The mainroads designation isn't really a replacement for the state route system anyway.

Whose sock is ACC? The Alternate Mako (talk) 10:14, 28 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Should the shield be changed to M65? 'Cause there is no State Route 142 shield. Or an M65 one, for that matter. I'll just remove the template for the moment. - Sumanuil (talk) 21:44, 28 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

There is now a nice shiny new shield for SR 142, thanks to User:Fredddie. The mainroads asset numbering system uses H and M designations, and is intended for their own reference to keep track of the roads assets that they are responsible for. It is separate from route numbering systems, and do not use any sort of shield. Thanks for removing the redlinked template though, I wasn't quite sure at that point if it would just end up automatically generating one (um, duh, it doesn't. Self-trout.).The Alternate Mako (talk) 02:29, 31 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
