Seperate Character Articles?

edit

Continued from the Utawarerumono talk page. Merging some of it sounds like a good idea, but the Touka article seems like an odd, fancrufty thing, or at least the 'Tsundere' half, which really doesn't seem to work out with my mental image of Tsundere (the I hate you with a passion/touchy feely). Does anyone disagree with takign away the stand-alone articles, then? Mekryd 16:31, 18 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

I agree with the proposed mergers.---- () 22:55, 18 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Eh, while we're at it, I'm going to split this article into actually sections, rather than having one large section titled "Characters" in an article titled "Characters".... a bit redundant, eh? =P Mekryd 00:20, 19 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Ah, about the sections...just how will you do that? I mean, would the main characters include everyone in Hakuoro's team and the secondary characters be the lords of the other countries like Kūya and Niwe? And then what about Mikoto, Mutsumi, and Iceman at the end; they're important to the plot but you don't learn about them until the end. You could split by country, though some characters like Urutori and Kamyu reside in Tusukuru though they still have a home country. :/---- () 00:27, 19 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Oh my...I was doing some searching and I found many more articles that person created: Aruruu, Kurou (Utawarerumono), Benawi, Nuwangi, Oboro (Utawarerumono), Yuzuha (Utawarerumono). This is going to be much harder to merge now...---- () 00:34, 19 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Joy~ He got around, ne? Well, some of this stuff seems... vaguely useful. It'll keep me occupied. Heh... Got Touka, and was about to go and correct things, but you beat me to it, nice job... I think I'll actually go onto Nuwangi for the moment.Mekryd 00:45, 19 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Oh, about the sectioning.... I'm not sure, now that I look at it. But there's something missing: Unless I'm blind, Kuuya doesn't have her own section... Mekryd 01:41, 22 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Kūya is between Niwe and Derihourai. Good work on the merges btw.--() 02:31, 22 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Heh, I guess it's convenient enough that I am nearly blind, then! Thankye! Mekryd 02:38, 22 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Should be noted that the creator of the character articles has been cited for copyvios, so be careful. I couldn't find the first sentence of "Aruruu" on Google, though. --Raijinili 08:51, 22 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yep, I've been keeping that in mind. Someone should go and make sure that the stuff is right, though, since my memory for their names is a bit meh. Oh, and speaking of Aruruu... Need to put the redirect there. Already gleened what info I could from it.Mekryd 15:09, 22 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Keeping a list of articles to merge here: Aruruu, Kurou (Utawarerumono), Benawi, Nuwangi, Oboro (Utawarerumono), Yuzuha (Utawarerumono), Touka (Utawarerumono), Orikakan --Mekryd (Last changed 00:20, 25 January 2007 (UTC))Reply

The names themselves won't be fun to romanize, since they seem to be Ainu in nature. I remember a debate on some fansub forums about various spellings such as Aruruu, Aruruw, and Aluluu. Is anyone familiar with the proper romanization of the names? Daniengrey 03:32, 27 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

In several magazine articles pertaining to the ADV licensed version of the anime, most of the names either go untouched (Aruruu, Oboro), or come with slight differences (Eluluu). It seems that ADV is favoring Repvised Hepburn romanization as they are keeping the two u's at the end of Eluluu and Aruruu.--() 04:18, 27 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Okay, after putting off Benawi for a few months, I just decided to redirect it. My memory of Benawi's a bit hazy, and I was a bit iffy on trusting the information in the topic. Perhaps I'll go back and re-add the information later (or maybe someone else can). Until then, I declare the merges done. Mekryd 14:05, 7 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm familiar with the Ainu romanizations. For the subtitled romaji (kanji), would it be a good idea to use the Ainu romanizations? AngelFire3423 (talk) 01:47, 10 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

If they are supposed to be Ainu names I'd say go ahead and use them? It's clear that in the "official" English version ADV put little effort into any background research and such, so it would probably be more accurate to romanize them that way than using ADV's somewhat haphazard approach... --ACDragonMaster (talk) 02:29, 7 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
Well i'm not sure they're supposed to be Ainu names. We're just assuming that they are since the series has Ainu influences and plus the names use small characters that you usually don't see in normal Japanese script. Though I'm sure the fanbooks (if there are any) would say whether they're suppose to be Ainu or not. AngelFire3423 (talk) 18:47, 8 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Dori and Gura...

edit

Alright, per recent edits to the characters section on Utawarerumono regarding Dori and Gura, I am linking to the very long debate we had on this subject which prooved them to be male in the game. Even if their gender was never confirmed in the anime, the visual novel has precedent over the anime since it came first and should be regarded in higher standing in terms of facts than the anime adaptation.--() 03:13, 24 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

This article refers to the anime as well, not just the game so it should be noted that their gender is never confirmed in the anime. If this was just a character article for the game, I'd agree with you, but it's not. The anime, although based on the game is not an exact replica of the game therefore it is independent of it, so regarding the game in higher standing is a personal opinion and will exclude facts about the anime that may have merit. However, if you still want to use the game as you're only basis for facts although it is clearly stated that this is a character article for the game, the manga and the anime, then any reference to the manga/anime should be removed and it should be made apparent that these are characterizations for the game only. As I mentioned on the main article, the anime at the time simply didn't deal with the subject explicitly, and so the assumption was that whatever facts there were should be used. Then again, having read your comment on the main article, I'd like to know a bit more about how the ADV version has interpreted this before making changes. And even if ADV has indeed altered them to be female, we could simply mention the differences in one sentence or two. Heck, even mention the differences between the game, Japanese anime, and American dubs. So there's not really too much of a problem anyway. =P KojieroSaske 01:31, 19 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
I agree completely. There is no argument that they are male in the game and probably the original Japanese version of the anime, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if ADV changed them to female, so if this is the case it should be noted in the article to squash any confusion for those who aren't familiar with the game but are familiar with the anime. However, I won't make any changes to this article without solid proof as I may very well be wrong. I just think this should be considered. Littlesin 03:21, 19 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
I remember seeing some art from one of the DVDs that had the main male characters in the hot springs, Dorii and Gura were included in this. I will try to find it again —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.92.31.41 (talk) 23:28, 26 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
I find it ridiculous that the character section for Dori and Gura here reads like a debate over their gender while on the corresponding Japanese page there is no dispute over the issue. Last time I checked, the objective of Wikipedia is not to please everyone.ChibiKareshi (talk) 11:13, 16 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Touka and Yuzuha

edit

perhaps the order they appear in the character list should be reversed since thats the order they appear on the picture Sir LoseALot 02:40, 4 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I agree, and went ahead and did it.--() 03:17, 4 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

End of Nuwangi

edit

In the game, or at least the DVD version, he started to repent when they released him, and then was killed by a group of unknown dude who said something on the line of "He's the samurai leader, If we kill him and give him to the rebels our lives/future would be secured" and then killed him. Since the gender of the twins are also decided by the game, I suggest putting this up. If there's no replies if 2 weeks I will find the line and do a more accurate translation then put it up.ParallelPain 06:39, 26 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Differences between Game and Anime

edit

Since the page is for visual novel, anime, and manga, would it be ok for me to edit the ones that seem to have a description only from the anime? I noticed that this has already been done for Doriy and Guraa. Hanafubuku (talk) 18:02, 13 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Rather, the descriptions should be as close to the original material (the visual novel) as possible.-- 20:04, 13 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Separating Game 1 and Game 2 characters

edit

Seeing as how we now have 2 worlds of information here, wouldn't it be advised if we separate the first game's information from the second? Having Haku and Kuon under main characters might confuse others since they are not part of the original. SIDE NOTE: How they are going to rationalize Kuon's existence is beyond me, since she wasn't born in the anime the way she was in the game(Hakuoro having granted Yuzuha's wish for a child, which she died giving birth to.)
