Track Pack compatability?

edit

Are the track packs compatible with both Rock Band and Rock Band 2? Might be helpful info, I just know that I was looking here for it and couldn't find it. Lyriani (talk) 11:47, 16 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

When the track packs are downloaded via redemption code, which is found on the back of the manual, the track packs are listed under the game "Rock Band" not "Rock Band 2".
So yes, one can play the downloaded track packs from both Rock Band 1 and Rock Band 2. 69.132.168.44 (talk) 01:36, 21 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Page name?

edit

Upon announcement of Vol. 2, should we rename to either List of Rock Band Track Packs or List of songs in Rock Band Track Packs? Oren0 (talk) 16:30, 30 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Given that each is going to be a distinct purchasable product, I think just calling it as it is now is fine, as "Rock Band Track Pack" is a reasonable search term (that should be redirected here). --MASEM 16:45, 30 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
I think the first one would be the best suited in the long run. A base description of common elements in the lead, plus an infobox with cover, summary of game info, and song list for each one would probably be appropriate. -- TRTX T / C 22:18, 30 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Compatibility with PS3

edit

Would the Rock Band Track Packs be compatible with the PS3? Because I can't get my PS3 online, and i'm thinking it would save me alot of time to just grab the PS2 one, and hope it works on PS3... Might be good for other people to know if it'll work on PS3 or not. --4.154.241.184 (talk) 01:51, 1 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

You'll have to ask around in gaming forums. Though I would guess if RB from PS2 is compatible the Track Pack would be. -- TRTX T / C 03:19, 1 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Certainly not unless you're using the PS2 version of RB rather than the PS3 one, and I'm not sure even then. The versions are very different. Oren0 (talk) 03:38, 1 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
The cover for Trackpack 1 says you don't need RB, meaning it's essentially its own game. Since the PS2 version uses the same instruments as the PS3, I don't see why you couldn't play it on the PS3.-161.133.8.248 (talk) 18:42, 9 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Stages?

edit

Saw the edit today. Can somebody source the "Staging" system on the trackpack vs. the "Tiers" used in the main game? I'm curious to see if they actually changed the difficulty categories in Quickplay. -- TRTX T / C 13:14, 22 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Pack 2

edit

[1]. There's no other info, so I don't think it warrants in clusion just yet. -- TRTX T / C 18:08, 4 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Formatting

edit

We really need to work on formatting this page so it will look better. The chart is overlapping the sidebar on my computer (Windows XP, 1024x768, Firefox 2) --Rabin 16:35, 16 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

What I think would help would be to have a page on Rock Band expansion games and then seperate the song lists out to a different article. The odd formatting is being caused by the table running up against the VG box. -- TRTX T / C 12:29, 18 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I really think that would be a good idea. We might be able to do that once the 2nd track pack is released. (Off topic: I hope "Dirty Little Secret" and "Still Alive" are on the Track Pack 2) --Rabin 00:37, 24 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

AC/DC Expansion?

edit

Walmart promotional materials are describing an AC/DC expansion pack. No information as to if it's a disc or just promoting DLC to go with the release of AC/DC's new album. I thought I'd archive it here for now and see how people felt. This to me seems more credible than the listings for RB Pack 2 that have been popping up on IGN, but I still don't think it's enough to go on for inclusion. -- TRTX T / C 12:29, 18 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Needless to say this is now a confirmed product exclusive to Wal-Mart/Sam's Club. Hard to tell if this will be DLC or not. --MASEM 05:59, 30 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

New Fender Guitar Effects in PS2 version

edit

I own this particular game, and I noticed that the original Rock Band and Track Pack Vol. 1 have some slightly different options which can be selected with the Strat's FX switch.

Rock Band: Doubler, Slap Back Echo, Medium Echo, Long Echo, Dry (No Effect)

Rock Band Track Pack Vol. 1: Doubler, Slap Back, Echo, Chorus, No Effect

Is this notable? --Rabin 00:49, 24 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Shrink Pack 1 boxart image?

edit

Is it within the imagine guidelines to take the one we have permission to use and shrink it somehow? I think if we did that it may help with the formatting issues we've been having. Maybe 75-80% of the current size? -- TRTX T / C 14:49, 30 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Track Pack 2 will be available for 360

edit

Unconfirmed, since it's not from HMX's mouths, but: http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/rock-band-track-pack-2/achievements/

xbox360achievements gets the list from microsoft's site. THIS IS NOT THE AC/DC PACK, BUT A SEPERATE PACK. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.170.175.52 (talk) 22:01, 16 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Should Some one put in the release for rock band track pack vol.2???

edit

i was wanting to know if someone should post info about rock band track pack vol 2. if you want more information, go to gamestop.com and search track packs. it stats that track pack vol 2 will be on the ps3, ps2, nintendo wii, and xbox 360. please some one return a note thing. this is my first time stating something in a discussion. so sorry if any errors. ~ slashaxl94

There is no additional info aside from a few random online listings. -- TRTX T / C 02:29, 18 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Re: Vol 2.

edit

For the record, I don't like running with a new section built entirely around reports from online stores. These are not official sources, which are typically used for confirmation of new titles and content. I've restructured the article to sound more encylopedic, but I personally would rather have waited until there was more word from Harmonix... -- TRTX T / C 19:19, 18 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

To be fair, it's not entirely built around reports from online stores; it's simply that, at the moment, the Gamestop link has the most information, and most likely will until Harmonix decides to put out the official press release. Mind you, this is not the first time, nor is it likely to be the last, that Harmonix is beaten to the punch on their own announcements. In any case, there is additional verification of the game's existence, achievements, and release date from other sources, which have been linked as references in the article. images

edit

With TP2, as the cover is pretty much exactly the same save for being red instead of blue, a cover image is inappropriate per WP:NFCC requirements - there's no significance of a nearly-duplicate image which is only used to ID the game cover. --MASEM 02:02, 19 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Nothing in WP:NFCC explicitly states that it would be inappropriate. If your rationale for removal is line 8, I would argue that it is important to be able to distinguish the two from each other, especially if there will be further Track Packs with further variations. RevolverMadeOfVelvet (talk) 15:14, 19 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Alternately, if you are referring to 3a, I would also argue that one item (in this case, the first volume's cover) cannot convey significant information in regards to the second volume's cover. It would be different if they were patently identical, but as they are not, I feel it should stay. With that said, if you choose to remove it again, I won't reinstate it; I'll leave it in your hands. Deal? RevolverMadeOfVelvet (talk) 15:24, 19 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
I agree with Revolver. I think it's important enough to include. Plus, the info box just looks so...empty, next to the other two.Mayy (talk) 02:01, 22 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

AC/DC art gone?

edit

I noticed a bot swept in overnight and removed the image due to it being deleted. Was there a non-free problem? -- TRTX T / C 12:56, 24 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

It appears that it was removed by Stifle under WP:CSD#I6. RevolverMadeOfVelvet (talk) 13:14, 24 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

AC/DC Live reversion

edit

There is an anon-IP who is insisting on deleting the information in the tables, despite two editors reverting, as well as multiple warnings. I have reported this user for violations of WP:3RR. I will also be requesting semi-protection until the IP user issue has been resolved. -- TRTX T / C 17:42, 9 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Well now we've gone and gotten the page fully protected. We have a longstanding practice of using in-game titles for all tracks/artists and this is just another example. I don't think anyone but this single IP has expressed disagreement with this practice. Hopefully we can get this page unprotected. Oren0 (talk) 20:04, 9 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Great...now it's protected in the incorrect version even. Oddly enough this IP made the EXACT same edits. And then when the second IP here was reported for 3RR...this IP magically appeared and made the same revision. There's definately something shady going on here. -- TRTX T / C 23:48, 9 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
What a lame thing to resort to sockpuppetry over. Hopefully we should get the article unprotected soon though. Oren0 (talk) 00:16, 10 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

The sad thing of this whole situation is that it really isn't even an edit war...as the IP edits aren't being accompanied by talk notes or even an edit summary. It comes off more at this point as bullheaded vandalism and intentional inclusion of factual errors. -- TRTX T / C 00:22, 10 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Explanation of consensus

edit

It has been pointed out to me by the protecting admin that it's not clear what exactly these reversions are about. On this page and others in Category:Music video game soundtracks and its subcategories, situations often come up where a song's title, artist, or other information is listed differently in the game as it is elsewhere. As a convention, a large number of editors have agreed that the only way to avoid confusion is to always list things as they appear in the game. As far as I know, no regular editor in the music video game area disagrees with this. The IPs have not offered an opinion on the matter, nor have they explained why they believe this doesn't apply to this particular instance. Barring an explanation as to their reasoning, the IPs are simply edit warring to get their revision and have no intent of reaching consensus or compromise, which is why semi-protection should suffice. If these guy(s) want to be civil, we'd certainly listen to their input. Oren0 (talk) 00:23, 10 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I did some digging, and one of the best examples of where this has been discussed before is here. There are others buried in the older archives on that page, but those are often buried in the middle of other discussions. -- TRTX T / C 00:29, 10 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Further digging - Another example here. -- TRTX T / C 00:33, 10 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I have unprotected the page; let's see what happens. Could I suggest however, that "Song title" as a heading for the table may be one source of confusion and that "Track Listing" or somesuch may more accurately reflect the fact that the table contents are taken verbatim from the game documentation. CIreland (talk) 01:33, 10 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Exporting already downloaded songs?

edit

Are there any references anywhere that indicates what happens if you use the export key for Track Pack 2, but have already downloaded say a couple of the songs on the disc? Best, --A NobodyMy talk 20:54, 19 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Is there a source on this? -- TRTX T / C 05:20, 20 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
That's what I'm wondering. If the songs are exportable, but you have already downloaded some songs previously (albeit not all on the Track pack) then does it create any problems? I notice that similarly the SingStore has songs that appear on volume one available and I am wondering if that too creates a problem just as I see some of the new songs listed at List_of_songs_in_the_Karaoke_Revolution_series#Exclusive_downloads_for_the_PlayStation_3_and_Xbox_360_versions_only also appear on Karaoke Revolution Present American Idol Encore. In any event, I think that if we can find sources on whether these create any issues that such things would be worthy of including (I actually looked at these articles hoping to find answers myself and I figure if I came to the articles trying to figure this out, then perhaps others did too. AC/DC expansion: European release dates.

edit

Just saw over on Play.com that they've got the AC/DC expansion up for sale with release dates for all 4 versions. According to them, the [2] PS3 and [3] 360 versions are coming out this Friday (19th December 2008), and they both retail for £29.99. They also say the [4] Wii verions will cost £29.99, but that will come out on April 24th 2009. Same story with the [5] PS2 version, but they say that will retail for £19.99.

Genre "vandal" frustration

edit

Now that the official Rock Band is listed as a source, and linked to in the article. I'd like to ask that editors performing reversions to please begin using the "Deliberate factual error" warning template on the user page. It's getting incredibly frustrating having to revert the same two or three changes multiple times a day due to the same users who ignore talk pages, editor's notes, and the article content itself... -- TRTX T / C 23:17, 31 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Images

edit

At this point, I think having a cover for each game (3 which look exactly the same save for color and words and one that duplicates the artwork for the AC/DC album) is unnecessary and against our non-free content criteria. One image for the first game makes sense, but not for the rest. --MASEM (t) 21:11, 9 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

I think the AC/DC art is valid. How often do movie based games share boxart with a film poster? It's different enough from norm toi keep. I wouldn't argue with the rest coming down. -- TRTX T / C 22:55, 10 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

It was online briefly, but now it's not. The only time I've seen it since is in their in-store upcoming games booklet. (Release date of July 21st or thereabouts) -- TRTX T / C 13:30, 15 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Pearl Jam

It could be a good idea to indroduce what the pearl jam live track pack is about and tell that the tracks are decided by votes. Have a look : http://ps3.ign.com/articles/981/981822p1.html —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.82.4.158 (talk) 04:49, 12 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

It is not necessarily a standalone track pack. It could be DLC, a standalone game, or a track pack. Until that's clarified, it can't be added. --MASEM (t) 05:02, 12 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Metal Track pack coming 2009

edit

An official HMX promotional video being shown at E3 includes a Metal Track Pack (feat. Screaming for Vegeance) in it's lineup of games for 2009. Link/video here. I would say it's legit, I'm just waiting for somebody to pick it up for a better ref than YouTube. -- TRTX T / C 14:36, 3 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

An IP editor is attempting to remove the content. The "eyes closed" achievement is a joke regarding a song consisting entirely of talkies and how easily those can be beaten. Please do not remove this content. -- TRTX T / C 00:04, 7 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

The specific comments said by Green Day leave much to be desired of exactly what they mean, and it makes no sense to guess if it is a track pack, DLC, or something else. --MASEM (t) 06:55, 10 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
