Series overview width

edit

It is currently being debated whether the series overview table should be left to auto width or stretched to 99% width like the episode tables, with WP:TVOVERVIEW cited as reasoning to leave to auto, specifically the line "The overview table should be presented compactly, for ease of viewing across multiple devices." Firstly, compactly does not necessarily mean auto width, as squeezing all the content together is overkill, and looks terrible. I believe this line is more in reference to smaller tables, that should only be around half the page or less, being stretched out to the full page width, which definitely shouldn't happen. In this case, where the table as it is has a lot more content, I don't think it needs to be changed so. Even if the table wasn't stretched to 99% width, for readability sake it should be stretched out further than auto, to something like this:

Season Episodes Originally aired Nielsen ratings
Season premiere Total viewers
(in millions)
Season finale Total viewers
(in millions)
Average total viewers, inc. DVR
(in millions)
Rank 18–49 rating/share
(rank)
1 22 September 24, 2013 (2013-09-24) 12.12 May 13, 2014 (2014-05-13) 5.45 8.31 43 3.0/9 (20)
2 22 September 23, 2014 (2014-09-23) 5.98 TBD TBD TBD TBD TBD

I would then note that the difference between this width and 99% is minimal, but by changing it there is consistency between all the tables on the page. If the table was significantly smaller, I would not suggest this, but because the table is already big enough to be comparable to the others, it is better to be consistent with them. - adamstom97 (talk) 02:39, 3 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

I'm not seeing how removing one new line in the "Average total viewers, inc. DVR" header gives better readability. I'm also seeing nothing in WP:TVOVERVIEW about requiring total viewers for season premieres and finales, given that this is simply duplicate info already given in the episode listings. Removal of these two columns would give an even more compact form to the table, hence not requiring a stretched table. The specific line of "The overview table should be presented compactly, for ease of viewing across multiple devices" in WP:TVOVERVIEW mentions nothing about what is included in the table or the whether it is only for small tables or not - if a sis not pecificity included in the Manual of Style as a specific, then we treat the line being refered to in the Manual as all-encompasing. AlexTheWhovian (talk) 02:52, 3 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
The MOS doesn't need to spell everything out, as WP:COMMONSENSE should always be exacted to reflect specificity. If the total viewers for season premieres and finales was removed, then the table would probably be too narrow to be stretched to the full width of the page, but I think it also would not be necessary at that point. Therefore, if consensus here is that those two columns should be removed, then the most appropriate width could be determined based on readability. If not, I would recommend restoring the table to 99% width. - adamstom97 (talk) 07:53, 3 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
There was no reply because I'd forgotten to reply. Perhaps post on one's talk page to remind them about this before reverting the edits once more. Removed the two columns as agreed, so the width doesn't need to (unnecessarily) be 99%. AlexTheWhovian (talk) 00:48, 8 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Ratings Graph

edit

I tried adding a ratings graph for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. but the template I created doesn't appear.

I fixed it. Never mind. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wansawansa (talkcontribs) 14:50, 22 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
It has been nominated for deletion; see the deletion page for the reason and resultant discussion. -- AlexTW 16:52, 22 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

What is going on here?

edit

Why this page shows even the plot summaries of the episodes and why Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (season 3) and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (season 4) do not? CAJH (talk) 07:11, 10 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

See Talk:List of The Americans episodes § Episode summaries here and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Television § List of Pretty Little Liars episodes, Pretty Little Liars (season 7) - anyone know what happened?. -- AlexTW 07:14, 10 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
Can we remove the summaries? The format was much better that way. It seemed better that way, because of less spoilers. But either way (because, yes, I KNOW, spoilers are irrelevant), it did look better, because of the season pages. Now it's just redundant baggage. -- Anythingspossibleforapossible (talk) 17:17, 10 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
Don't worry, the issue has been fixed. - adamstom97 (talk) 21:58, 10 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Episode Pages

edit

At the moment it looks pretty inconsistent. Pages for individual episodes exist up until Season 4 where it's all a bit hit and miss, and none exist for Season 5. It probably would have been best to create the pages as each episode went out, since now there's a pretty big backlog. Anyone fancy taking on this pretty big task...? TheMysteriousEditor (talk) 20:58, 24 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Everyone is free to make an article about anything, as long as they have the sources to back it up. I have created most of the episode articles for this show, and do intend to finish the job at some point, but unfortunately real life can get in the way some times. - adamstom97 (talk) 23:10, 24 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Ratings Graphs

edit

We need a consensus on the inclusion of ratings graphs. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.100.241.132 (talk) 14:08, 23 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

There is already consensus: they are not needed as the content is already covered at the season pages. - adamstom97 (talk) 20:21, 23 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
Agreed with Adam. I have seen no worthy argument for its inclusion. -- AlexTW 03:18, 24 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
Agree with Alex and Adam. Nothing useful would come from its inclusion. Also, FWIW, it appears this IP is a sock. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 03:26, 24 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
Per the other three editors. There's no such need for a graph here, and when Season 6 airs, I can fully source the DVR numbers as there's two sources for DVR ratings now that are reliable. Esuka323 (talk) 16:04, 24 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Esuka323: What do you mean by this: I can fully source the DVR numbers as there's two sources for DVR ratings now that are reliable? There are not any individual DVR numbers featured in the article here currently. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 17:00, 25 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
Oh sorry, I was just saying that when the sixth season airs I can source the numbers from TVbythenumbers & Programming Insider. Programming Insider releases the +7 numbers every week on the same day regardless while TVbythenumbers has been very inconsistent over the Summer. So that was more an offhand comment about the season page if anything. I just felt it was relevant because the ratings on the season pages was mentioned by Adam. Esuka323 (talk) 21:40, 25 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
All good. That's what I figured, but just wanted to clarify! - Favre1fan93 (talk) 15:41, 26 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Pod subtitles

edit

So could I add the subtitles for the fourth and seventh seasons, being Ghost Rider, LMD, Agents of Hydra and The Final Mission (excluding S.H.I.E.L.D. in Space)? We have the subtitles for the seasons of Infinity Train, Westworld, Gotham, American Horror Story, American Crime Story and Star Wars: The Clone Wars which had them, so I'd say they're worth including. 51.171.113.150 (talk) 21:21, 25 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

I don't have an opinion on adding pod names, but would like to add that there are two "official" pre-season 4 pods: Fallen Angel and Uprising. Here's a fan wiki about them: https://marvelcinematicuniverse.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Agents_of_S.H.I.E.L.D._Pods ; could probably dig up official sources if this is to be a thing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bflaminio (talkcontribs) 21:53, 25 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
There is a difference between pod subtitles and marketing terms. The only season that actually has pod subtitles is season 4, the other seasons do use subtitles in their marketing though and we discuss those at the main series page as well as the individual season articles. I think it would only make sense to include subtitles in the overview table if any of the seasons had subtitles of their own, but since the only ones we have a pod-level subtitles I don't think the apply in the context of the seasons overview. - adamstom97 (talk) 23:14, 25 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Bflaminio: Thank you for bringing this to my attention, that they were marketed under subtitles; I believe this is a similar situation to how the subtitles were applied for the Infinity Train and Star Wars: The Clone Wars, where the early subtitles referred to individual arcs and were mainly used in marketing and in materials from the production staff (writers, directors, cast, etc.) 51.171.113.150 (talk) 00:31, 26 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
I agree with not including them. Season 4 was the only one with official pods, the rest were just marketing. They're not needed in the series overview. Series' such as Infinity Train, Westworld, American Horror Story and American Crime Story have all had overarching titles for each and every season, and only for the entire season, not part-seasons. They are not needed here, nor at articles such as Gotham or Archer, where "subtitles" can be included through episode table headers or section titles. -- /Alex/21 14:45, 26 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Subtitles should not be included as the IP is attempting per Adam and Alex. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 17:09, 27 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
