Leopard 2E's turret armor

edit

Because it's being changed from thickened to added, and then to spaced (whereas the intention was not to state what kind of armor it has, because nobody is really sure and there is no citation), I've decided to just say turret armor to avoid edit wars - the text already states that the armor is thicker than the Leopard 2A6s, so it should be fine. How does this sound? JonCatalán (talk) 10:49, 29 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

This is not the turret armor per se but the wedge-shaped spaced add-on armor system in front of the turret armor. --Denniss (talk) 13:56, 29 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Well, my point was moreso that the Leopard 2E has added steel plates to the wedge armor and to the glacis plate. I think it's better just to avoid stating anything specific in an image caption, anyways. :) JonCatalán (talk) 09:21, 30 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

The article claims the turret armour was improved? How? The wedge shaped add-on armour modules look the same. --Tim.vogt (talk) 10:59, 21 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

The armor is thicker. JonCatalán(Talk) 15:08, 21 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
The frontal hull armour or the turret roof armour can be seen, they are thicker. But which turret armour? The turret armour or the add-on armour? To say "the turret armour is thicker" is impossible, since the thickness and te composition remains unknown... and to talk about the wedge-shaped Keilpanzerung... there are some problems. The Leopard 2E is based on the Leopard 2A6EX. The Greek Leopard 2A6HEL is also based on the Leopard 2A6EX. I know from images that the wedge-shaped armour there is the same like the one of the Leopard 2A5 or Leopard 2A6, it consists of the same number of layers which have the same thickness. --Tim.vogt (talk) 16:19, 21 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
That is why this article contains no original research, and mentions only what is cited. ;) JonCatalán(Talk) 17:08, 21 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Saudi Arabia purchases Leopard 2E

edit

I'm surprised this isn't in here. Saudi arabia in october of 2010 was negotiating a purchase of 200-270 Leopard 2E tanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AloDuranium (talkcontribs) 02:00, 27 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Several issues

edit
1. GIAT with what became the Leclerc (the Italian MK3 tank) - what is that Italian MK3 tank?
2. In 2005 it was declared that the 108 Leopard 2A4s were to cost Spain... - by who?
3. About 60% of each Leopard 2E was manufactured in Spain, as opposed to 30% for the Leopard 2S, for example, most of which was manufactured in Sweden. - 30% + most of which ?
4. The description of the main picture is not the same with the description on flikr. Madrid is Zaragoza and October 2006 is actually 1st of June 2008. Also, the Leopard 2A4 picture could be replaced with this one, while the main picture could be replaced with this one.--Mircea87 (talk) 18:20, 7 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Development time

edit

From the lead section, paragraph 2: "Its development represented a total of 2.6 million hours worth of work, 9,600 of them in Germany." Does this mean 2.6 million man-hours? Axl ¤ [Talk] 13:32, 16 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

I presume that the 2_600_000 hours are man hours. But why mention 9_600 hours as being in Germany, its a tiny amount leaving 2_590_400 elsewhere. Is the elsewhere Spain? -- SGBailey (talk) 14:07, 16 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
There is an overall slant in the article to stress that the 2E is mainly indigenous; I assume that the sentence was to stress that the 2E was not mainly built in Germany (where the Leopard 2 originates). -- DevSolar (talk) 14:12, 16 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
I have changed the text to "man-hours". However the reference makes no mention of the development time. Axl ¤ [Talk] 15:10, 16 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
The source states (once you clicked into the Programa Leopardo 2E) that "GD SBS staff traveled to Germany for training and training involved a total of 9,600 hours (60 men / month). The Leopardo 2E Program represents a total of 2.6 million hours of workload (direct labor hours production)." BP OMowe (talk) 18:45, 5 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
