Other passages in the book also attracted significant controversy recounting sexual interactions with her younger sister Grace starting when Lena was seven,[1] and prompted numerous think pieces about children's sexuality and personal boundaries.[2][3] In the book she retells a story where she explored her one year old sister stating “I leaned down between her legs and carefully spread open her vagina”, also noting her mother’s lack of a reaction since “This was within the spectrum of things I did”.[4] She was also criticized for the passage the described Lena trying to bribe and woo her infant sister like a “sexual predator”.
“Three pieces of candy if I could kiss her on the lips for five seconds... Basically, anything a sexual predator might do to woo a small suburban girl, I was trying. Maybe, I thought, she would be more willing to accept kisses if I wore the face mask my grandmother had for when she did her dialysis. (The answer was no.)... I took a perverse pleasure in delivering bad news to her — the death of our grandfather, a fire across the street — hoping that her fear would drive her her into my arms, would make her trust me.” [5]
These revelations triggered angry responses from conservatives bloggers to liberal feminists. Lachrista Greco from Guerrilla Feminism criticized her and her supporters, stating, "Do I think what Lena Dunham did to her sister was sexual assault? Yes. And to those of you who have defended her heinous actions, YOUR voice is silencing to many commenters who openly discussed their own experiences of incest, sexual assault, etc. ... It's NOT NORMAL. - Request that the second paragraph under Career/Related controversies be changed to the initial paragraph above to improve flow. Also request that the additional two paragraphs be included to clarify specifics about her book's reaction, referenced on the current page. The current page does not identify that some identified her as a sexual predator, after which she attempted to identify as a spokeswoman for survivors of childhood sexual abuse. In an interview with TIME, she also apologized for the "comic" use of the term "sexual predator" when describing herself in the book in an attempt to downplay her actions. That interview, in addition to canceling some of her book tour and her self-admitted "rage spiral", indicates that this controversy made a significant impact on her personally and her public image. - Please use another website to tell the world about perceived evils. In a way it is interesting to see the tired misreadings trotted out, but in another way it is nonsense. Agree. The Wikipedia project is intended as a NPOV encyclopedia.
