Tour dates

Do we really need the tour dates for the 2006 tour in this article? This is not Wikinews? Elf-friend 06:35, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

I thought the same as you and looked all around to try to find some guidelines about posting such events; didn't really find anything that seemed to address tour dates though. Maybe I just missed them. I agree that this should not be a place to post tour dates, but as long as they're not explicitly against wikipolicy, I think maybe we should let the poster of them know, rather than just deleting them... what do you think? --Romarin 14:31, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

I think that's a great idea. Like I said, I didn't find anything explicitly saying posting tour dates is against wikipolicy, but that seems to be the general idea from what I gather looking around. Basically, it borders on adversizing, which is against wikipolicy. But an external link (under "external links", not "see also"; this is for other wiki pages) to their website and tour dates would be much better, I agree. Ladysmith Black Mambazo in Outer Space

Someone needs to research this and add it to the article, it was part of a saturday night live sketch about failed cartoon shows. It sounded like they recoded some of the audio for the sketch themselves, but i have been unable to track down any information concerning the sketch. in any event, it should definately be mentioned in the article.--69.218.198.216 04:57, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

It's not that noteworthy to put in the article. In a discussion I had with their manager recently it seems the group itself did not record any of the vocals for the cartoon. LBM 22:28, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

GA nomination

I came very close to nominating this page as a GA, but there are few things that need to be corrected first:

• The reference section needs to be bulleted
• In context, this sentence:

They were so good that they were eventually forbidden to enter isicathamiya competitions but were welcomed to entertain at them.

sounds like the "they" is referring to Shabalala's harmonies, instead of the band (which is what I believe "they" refers to). That needs to be made more clear. Also, the previous sentence jumps to the sentence above without any chronological connection. That's like saying "John Mayer wanted to be a musician since he was thirteen. He wore a black tux when he got his first Grammy" It jumps so far into the future it is a little jarring.

• Since most of the English speaking world (or at least english Wikipedia's readership) is unfamiliar with the term isicathamiya, there should probably be a brief explanation of what that is - one sentence is good enough.
• There is some overlinking in the article: isicathamiya is linked more than once, and so are various years, etc...
• Also, you might consider turning some of those inline urls into proper inline citations. See WP:IC.

Paul Simon did what?

"On December 10, 1991, Shabalala's brother and one of the bass members in the group, Headman Shabalala, was shot and killed by Sean Nicholas, a white off-duty security guard.His death was considered a racial killing by Paul Simon, who led the court proceedings against Nicholas."

I don't understand what the above quote means. In what sense did Simon "lead the court proceedings against Nicholas"? Was he there when Shabalala was killed? Did he finance the defense? Clarification would be appreciated. 68.7.201.42 07:32, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

GA Reassessment

This review has been initiated as part of the sweeps project. The article is neutral in tone and well-written. It's main problems are:

• insufficient in-line citations, particularly in the sections beginning with subsection "2008-present". All this material needs much better referencing. Every award received needs a source, or a source needs to be provided at the head of the table if they are all able to be found in one source.
• the order of sections seems strange. I would have expected "membership" to be the first, or one of the first, sections, while the LBM Foundation section should be one of the last.
• it is not clear why the material on touring is separate to the chronological history of the group. Some of it repeats points already made in the history, highlighting the problem. I suggest removing the main "history" heading, make the time periods main-level headings, integrate all touring info into that framework, and delete the "touring" section altogether. This will improve flow and eliminate repetition.

Full statement - should be removed

I have a few concerns about the "full statement" reproduced here. For one thing, it's quite unnecessary and unencyclopedic. The setup to the statement seems to indicate that he's going to tell us that he's going to retire (or that he'll never retire or something), but in fact he's saying that if he retires, his son will take over running the band. Just on these grounds alone, I think the statement should be removed, but if that's not a compelling enough reason, I think the copyright on reproducing an entire statement, word-for-word is dubious. It can hardly be considered fair use, because it could easily be summarized and/or paraphrased without any loss in the meaning, and it's a reproduction of the work in full. 0x0077BE [^talk/_contrib] 06:26, 8 April 2014 (UTC)

Dates - confusing and contradicting.

in the introduction it is stated that LBM were formed by Joseph Shabalala in 1960.
