I think there may be some reason to believe that Kalaniulumoku, Namaile, and Kamaile were the same person since the sources are all muddled up and the paternity of Abigail Maheha and Jane Loeau differ depending on what you read (either saying they are full sisters or that they are half-sisters). --KAVEBEAR (talk) 09:58, 3 March 2012 (UTC)

Names

it would be very helpful if someone could clean up this article, and make it more understandable for those unfamiliar with Hawaiian history, language, and names. actually, that would be great for ALL the pages about the Hawaiian royal families. i've come to this page from 2 similar pages, and really am having trouble figuring out who's who and what's going on.

for this page, specific issues (and i've only read, quickly, thru the first 2-3 sections)--the "United Kingdom" section talks about the entire delegation catching measles, and that Queen Kamāmalu and King Kamehameha II died. at the end of the section, it relates how the bodies of Kamehameha II and Kamehamalu were brought back to Oʻahu. i was confused; who was Kamehamalu? i had to go to the WP for Queen Kamāmalu to see that Kamehamalu was simply a different name for this queen. so, first suggestion--pick one name for an individual and use it for the entire WP page. for those not used to reading (or hearing) Hawaiian names, it's very, very difficult to try to scan thru a page and pick out a name in more than one location to try to orient that individual within the narrative. if it is culturally or otherwise important to use an alternate name for a person, then indicate that it's being done.

then, i start the next section and come across Kaʻahumanu. this person seems to be an important part of much of the rest of the narrative, yet i cannot place who this is. scanning upwards doesn't give me the name, or the person's status/identity, from earlier in the article. and, that name isn't linked to another WP article until much later (for those not used to Hawaiian names, it is much later). i think it might be WP policy to link the first instance of a name/phrase/word? i suppose i can make that change here, but i had to actually do a general internet search on that name, to get directed back to the WP article on Kaʻahumanu. next suggestion--the first time a person/figure appears in the narrative, link to their WP if there is one, and provide a very brief description/explanation of her/his role and importance to/in the narrative.

what might be quite useful is a visual family tree, or royalty tree. i'm thinking that might be quite a task, though. anyway, i would find this history extremely interesting and would love to read thru all the WPs on it....but i can't devote the time needed to decipher who's who and where they fit in every time i come across a name. that makes me sad, and i hope there is someone out there that finds the names and narrative second nature, and who will donate some time so others can share in these histories/stories.Colbey84 (talk) 08:38, 14 November 2015 (UTC)

Death and Kiliwehi

What was Liliha's cause of death? And how could Kiliwehi (born c. 1840) be her daughter unless 1. the estimate age of Kiliwehi on her obituary is wrong or 2. Liliha died shortly after childbirth and Kiliwehi being her final child and thus was around 33 when she died in 1870. --KAVEBEAR (talk) 05:36, 8 October 2016 (UTC)
