Survivors

I removed this as unnecessary, only to have it restored with the comment By presenting only the dark side of the sun, we give undue weight to a fringe minority who'd frame the weather as disastrous. Is this just not stating the obvious though? If people didn't die because of the heat then obviously they survived it. And the number is a general ballpark estimation of survivors anyway, with no source to back it up. I'm sitting in my lounge right now with a portable air conditioner going at full throttle, so I'm surviving a natural disaster it would seem, and I'm sure others are doing the same. You're not surviving a natural disaster, you're surviving summer again. But the word "survived" may seem problematic because summer is so easily survivable. Do you have less of a problem with the current wording, relaying roughly how many in these apparent danger zones were otherwise affected? I think it's good for context to look at the wider scope of this wave's effect on human life, rather than focus unduly on only the extremely small fraction of a sliver who died and paint the warmth as something inherently deadly (despite most drowning in cool water they willfully entered). Admittedly, a sourced estimate of the entire affected population would be better, and the summary of effects is still incomplete without hospitalization figures and economic impact, but it's a good start, I think. No objection to removing the entire paragraph, though, insignificant disparate death and all. InedibleHulk (talk) 04:46, 30 June 2019 (UTC)

I've added a summary explaining more precisely why the few who didn't survive didn't. Ten of thirteen were seemingly killed by avoiding the supposed real danger, and the three who apparently truly died of heat were old. Only natural for a 93-year-old to succumb to anything mundane, from drafts to dampness to noise to standing. InedibleHulk (talk) 05:40, 30 June 2019 (UTC)

Just a random viewer pitching in here. There's heat records being set across Europe (e.g 41C + 98% humidity in NL), devices broke such as Schiphol airport's fuel pump causing thousands to get stuck, people died (and not just elderly), many people ended up in hospital (including kids), lots shit caught on fire; it's not just another summer, it's a record breaking summer, which deserves to be mentioned as such. Nobody implied this is a chernobyl scale disaster, but there's plenty information for other events that 'only' killed a few people, so why not this one? IMHO Seems nitpicking borderline censoring if we were to not allow this to exist, I don't see any problem with it existing, it's not like it's causing anyone issues of any kind, if anything it helps people find what they're looking for..
