Talk:Julius Malema/Archives/2010

Date of birth

Was Julius really born in 1981? doesn't seem correct to me when looking at the timeline of his career... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.174.2.92 (talk) 19:31, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

His matric certificate, and www.whoswhosa.co.za agree on it. Wizzy 09:23, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

Military training (Part 2)

Robertson-Glasgow, can you try to use web URLs for your references ? There are plenty of them, and 'Buthelezi, 2009' cannot be checked easily. Wizzy 11:42, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Agreed - most contributors to this page have incorrectly inserted web references. If you are unsure of how to cite a web reference correctly, try looking at the edit page of a current news item, there should be plenty of examples that you can use as a template. PubQuizzer (talk) 12:40, 24 February 2009 (UTC

I doubt the fact that Malema ever received any military training especially from the ANC. In 1994 the South African military was too big because all previous militias who could prove which militia they were in were incorporated into the then SADF. The Government went on an extensive campaign offering lucrative retirement packages for soldiers to leave the military.

The SANDF & the old SADF will not enlist 13 year olds. At that stage all other training camps in Tanzania were closed. The story of Malema being in the military is as ludicrous as the Zimbabwe war veterans story. Mugabes so called war veterans must have beenabout 5 when he came into power.

Yes. well, good stuff, Robert. Now: learn the difference between relevant and notable facts (Malema's self-styled "military training" is relevant but not notable; Mugabe's "war veterans" are notable but not relevant in this context") how to format things so that you make your point clearly, and most importantly, how to sign things, with 3 or 4 tildes, like this: pietopper (talk) 00:09, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

Page cleanup

This page is a mess, with too much undue weight going to Malema's detractors. Antihase, I appreciate your attempts to clean up, but you are doing it in a weaselly way - tacking on disclaimers and apologies. All the material needs to be condensed so that it is not primarily about his contoversies. Group the contoversies, take out a lot of the quotes, etc. Be bold. Wizzy 15:50, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

And what is with the 'double level' references ? We seem to 'indirect' from notes to references. Can anyone help out making them more normal ? Wizzy 08:11, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
The references should be all cleaned up and updated. On the issue of the undue weight - I couldn't agree more. The criticism section needs to be seriously cut down, as at the moment it seems like every controversial statement he makes gets its own section, and it seems that he makes a lot of controversial statements. - Bilby (talk) 00:29, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
Bilby, thanks very much for the ref cleanup. Wizzy 09:53, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
No problem - that should make it easier to judge things. Generally my feeling is that the sources are reliable, so that much is covered. The problem is NPOV and undue weight. That, unfortunately, is harder to contend with than simply poorly sourced statements. - Bilby (talk) 13:11, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
Page cleanup? Looks like somebody is in love with the ANC(Wizzy). Wizzy, more controversial remarks by Julius Malema should be added not less. Especially racist remarks regarding whites so that the world can see him as the racist he really is.The Comments regarding opposition parties section can be made smaller to accomadate this racist younsters remarks. Luckely Wizzy alone can't stop the truth from coming out. Brace yourself. You are fighting a losing battle —Preceding unsigned comment added by 196.209.236.14 (talk) 20:04, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
Saying something twice does not make it any louder on wikipedia. Long listing of all his controversial remarks just makes it a boring, unencyclopedic article. Throwing more mud at him doesn't make him muddier. Wizzy 15:05, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
So it is not necessary to mention the 11 speeding fines and one fine for jumping a red light? Perhaps this would make the article less boring though? Perhaps on a lighter note - someone could discuss the species of tropical fish in the specially built tank in the outer wall of one of his houses. Although I have heard that this is not his house, so perhaps that could be added as evidence of a smear campaign under a new heading. This could make the article more neutral.Michaelwild (talk) 16:46, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

Wizzy is correct. The problem is not including statements that make him look bad - it's listing, in tedious detail, every single controversial thing he has said. The article on PW Botha doesn't include every racist or asinine thing he said, although I'm sure they must be well documented. No one wants to gloss over the facts, but the articles need to be readable. ManicParroT (talk) 13:05, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

I don't agree with you parrot. Name one racist thing P.W. Botha said? He never urged people to murder innocent people. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 196.209.5.33 (talk) 21:08, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

"in tedious detail"? a lot of what Malema has to say is important to understanding the man he is. He is an important and large figure in South African politics. And, thus, everything he does is under the watchful eye. Not including his controversies would paint a very different picture of him. Many South Africans are made to hear about all he does on a constant basis, but for say a person reading this in America this would be vital information on understanding who Julius Malema is. Spelling of name Julius/ Julias

I believe that the person being discussed here is called Julias and not Julius. I read an article in the newspaper where his matric certificate was pictured, and I beilieve this is the spelling of his name. I was just wondering whether someone could check this for accuracy.

////

He spells it 'Julius' himself.

Avudubele Ibulu

Is "Avudubele Ibulu" another name of "kill the boer" ? I found the first name only in the judgment of the North Gauteng High Court. Apokrif (talk) 15:46, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Update: looks like a variant of "Dubul' ibhunu". Apokrif (talk) 15:56, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Current Court Case

I have since added that Malema is undergoing trial for his alleged hate speech Meli Ncube (talk) 11:25, 29 April 2011 (UTC)Meli NcubeMeli Ncube (talk) 11:25, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

Request for Protection or Semi-Protection

This article is on a person who is quite controversial in South Africa - and I've seen that there are already problems with neutrality. As much as I personally don't like Malema, this article needs to stay NPOV, so I'd like to request that it be protected or semi-protected by an admin, if at all possible.--Life in General, Master of Tropes 18:52, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

Removed link to blog

I've removed the link to the blog http://www.juliusmalema.co.za/. The validity of this seems very dubious to me.

The whois information has no postal or physical address. The email nextsapresidents@gmail.com is dubious. I tried to call the phone number +27 11 832 2424 , and I got to a fax modem.

List-defined references

Any objections to changing the style of the article to use List-defined references? I feel that this will make it much easier to edit.
