Talk:Jiren (Dragon Ball)

Latest comment: 3 years ago by IVORK in topic Requested move 28 November 2020

Shouldn’t it be Jiren (Dragon Ball)?

edit

I harbor no hard feelings for what the admin is doing. Though I don’t think Jiren the Grey adheres to Wp:Commonname. I think the title should be (Dragon Ball) at the end. The admin could at least made a consensus on it and so maybe haleth could too. But still...wow! Jhenderson 777 19:13, 27 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Jiren the GreyJiren (Dragon Ball) – I don't have a problem with my action being reverted if it was found to be in error. But if I am found to have jumped the gun, then so has the admin. The original Jiren article has not been edited in any substantial way for more then a decade and appears to be a WP:permastub. WP:Before found passing mentions on some books, and to me, clearly not the WP:primarytopic as the remnants of the old city has fallen into obscurity, assuming that the topic is notable for inclusion on wikipedia in the first place. • Support: Per WP:Commonname as I said before. I would even say it is the most notable topic. Though I may need to verify and confirm that off-wiki sometime. Jhenderson 777 00:32, 28 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Support per nom, and a DAB should be made at base name.--Ortizesp (talk) 05:31, 28 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • I have no opinion on the title of this article, but the city of Jiren is obviously the primary topic. In determining this we don't just go by Google hits, but by the long-term significance of the subject and a judgement of what most readers will expect to see regardless of our personal interests and biases. A city that is "obscure" to you is might not be to, for example, the people that live in it. I found plenty of sources in English, but do also bear in mind that an English-language Google search probably doesn't give you ready access to the full range of sources about a historical city in Ethiopia (did you look for sources in Oromo? In undigitised library books? In local historical archives and periodicals?). The fact that the article is currently a stub is neither here nor there. – Joe (talk) 10:21, 28 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
    • Sources from other languages are welcomed on English Wikipedia, as I am aware, but it is still preferable to use English sources as per my understanding. From what limited info I can glean when doing my due diligence, it currently exists in northern suburbs of Jimma though with no mention of whether the area is still inhabited, so in fact the primary topic of the former historical city should be Jiren, Jimma then. In any event, the new article should be moved to the more appropriate common name as currently supported by a few other editors. Haleth (talk) 10:40, 28 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
    • I disagree the city is WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, just because people live in it and one is a cartoon character doesn't change the statement. In terms of notability to modern day readers, the Dragon Ball character is surely more relevant and this is supported by page views. I think if you tip the scales, it's hard to say which is primary, so it's better to have a DAB page at the base name.--Ortizesp (talk) 18:33, 28 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
