Is it accurate to describe him as an "anti-war author"? I've heard the book described as such, but it's not clear that it was intended as an explicitly anti-war book, or that the author is a pacifist in general. --Delirium 01:55, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
I have read 'Jarhead'. I'd would say that 'Jarhead' is not an anti-war book. Nor is it pro-war - it's too complex to fit neatly into either camp. Is the author anti-war or a pacifist? You'd have to ask him. What I've got of 'Jarhead' is the memories of an older man talking about the younger man he used to be.--Bdunbar 23:34, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
A guy who was a sniper in the U.S. Marines is most likely not a pacifist... It is unclear in my opinion whether he is anti-war or not, but I'll point out that early in the book he describes how all war movies are pro-war, even the supposedly anti-war ones like Platoon, because no matter what the creator intended most military men lust for war films and watching them makes them want war. He probably would say the same about war books, which means his book is pro-war no matter what.
