Confusion between book and film? edit

I think there there is some elements of the film description mixed in the plot summary.--JBellis (talk) 17:18, 2 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Update needed edit

'First known stage adaption of Jamaica Inn was by John King performed at the Regent Centre in 1993 and is due to be performed again in February 2009.'

This statement needs updating. Valetude (talk) 18:28, 8 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Synopsis edit

Jem leaves Mary to go get the jingle. What on earth does that mean? 86.31.6.68 (talk) 21:43, 23 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

I noticed that yesterday! It's been there since the article was started in 2006, so it must mean something. In the 2014 BBC TV adaption I've just watched he went to pay for the inn room they were staying in, but the original may be different. Regards, Lynbarn (talk) 21:58, 23 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

A jingle is a two-wheeled horse-drawn cart. In the original novel, Jem leaves Mary waiting in the street when he goes to fetch the jingle to take them back to Jamaica Inn after their visit to Launceston. Don't bother with the substandard TV 'adaptation', read the book. It's 100% better. Redcamellia (talk) 09:46, 24 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

I just linked the word to Wikipedia's article on Jingle (carriage). In fact, the latter says that the jingle was exclusive to Ireland, which makes one wonder if du Maurier was incorrect to use the term in a story set in Cornwall. In any case, the synopsis here is still faulty as it abruptly introduces Jem's name with no explanation as to who he is. Muzilon (talk) 02:17, 18 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
