NPOV

edit

Under "Early Life", the sentence The man was a kind man and died in 1886 is blatantly opinionated. The date of death may be verifiable, but it is a value judgment whether or not he was really a kind man. Now, you may be able to provide a reference stating that he was considered by some, or even by many, to be a kind man. You may be able to establish the fact that this was a generally-held opinion of him, but you cannot take an opinion and try to present it as a fact. Picture

edit

the "restored" picture appears to be a kim jong-il-level photomanipulation that leaves this dude looking like a pageant queen. i mean, if people think this heavily photoshopped version is better, by all means leave it, but i think it should probably be reverted back to the original. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.165.47.77 (talk) 07:34, 25 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Death

edit

There's no discussion of his death. What was he doing in New Mexico? How did he die? etc. — Preceding unsigned comment added by WXAggie (talkcontribs) 18:12, 9 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Butch Cassidy

edit

"During one particularly trying period in 1874, three Navajo Indians were shot by a member of the Butch Cassidy gang". In 1874 Butch Cassidy was 8 years old. Hardly the right age to organize a gang. אביהו (talk) 16:32, 10 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

The Navajos were shot by Tom and Bill McCarty in 1874. There is a Bill McCarty in one of the photographs on the Wikipedia page for Cassidy's Wild Bunch gang. Assuming it's the same guy, how about we insert the word "subsequent" before the word "member".128.187.112.7 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 00:13, 19 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Map

edit

I appreciate the work that went into putting together the map, but it looks a little odd to me. The southern terminus of the Wasatch Mountains is normally considered to be Mount Nebo, which is about 150 miles north of Parowan. Also, the range labeled Iron Mountains seems to be a conflation of the Hurricane Fault with the Pine Valley/Harmony/Iron Mountain complex.128.187.112.7 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 00:22, 19 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Under the Banner of Heaven

edit

In Jon Krakauer's book, it should be pointed out, Hamblin 'orchestrated the shakedown and robbery of the William Dukes wagon train'. I don't think the article can simply state that he was admired for his honesty without mentioning the doubts. 105.226.85.67 (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 12:53, 26 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

    • Jon Krakauer's book is an act of hate speech and should never be used as a source for anything. It was written with the intent of attacking The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and trying to falsely implicate them in the actions of people who were either excommunicated from the Church long before their actions or were never actually members of the Church. It is a tract full of attempts to imply guilt by association, it is a work of shoddy scholarship intended to increase antagonism and hate, and should never be treated as a reliable source.John Pack Lambert (talk) 12:22, 24 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

First reference

edit

The editor who tried to destroy my improvement of this article claims that we alwasy use the full name of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at first reference. Well, that is exactly what my revision caused to happen.John Pack Lambert (talk) 12:18, 24 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
