== Saudi Arabian ID? =2285874877 I have seen mention of an official Saudi Arabian identity card also called an iqama at http://americanbedu.com/2008/01/21/renewal-of-iqama/ and a few other places online. Is this like a US green card? Can someone who actually knows about this clarify on the page? 75.22.207.224 (talk) 04:18, 17 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Currently working in KSA, and I can confirm that Iqama seems to mainly refer to the Residence Permit issued to non-KSA citizens. The 2nd prayer is refered to as Dhuhr by most resources. 212.118.142.8 (talk) 16:22, 11 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

My understanding (limited) is that Iquama is a call to prayer but iqama is a work permit. Can an Arabist clarify? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.73.203.146 (talk) 10:00, 31 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello all, I am currently working in Saudi Arabia and *hope* that I can bring some clarity to this issue. Firstly, the definition of an iqamah as a residence permit as entered above is correct. Secondly, regarding the difference between the visa and the second call to prayer, it is in fact the same word with two different meanings. The base meaning of the word, to my understanding, is to establish something. The 'iqamah' as in the second call to prayer (the one that is called directly before the prayer starts) is the announcement of the establishment/commencement of the prayer, and an 'iqamah' in the visa sense is what establishes a person's stay in KSA. I hope that that is helpful, if anyone has any questions, please contact me at ibnpaul at gmail dot com.

NB: In Arabic, there are many existing words that are utilized to impart newer meanings, and in this case a word that contains some of the meaning of the new term is usually selected. The above is a perfect example, as the call to prayer has existed since the time of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and the concept of a residency permit has existed for less than 100 years, by my estimation. 86.51.53.174 (talk) 06:15, 1 September 2010 (UTC)ibnpaul at gmail dot comReply

Proposed merge with Iqama (Residence Permit) - Saudi Arabia edit

Not enough details here to justify another article. Plus no references Adamgerber80 (talk) 18:25, 4 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
