Merger? edit

  • I saw that Interstate 24 in Georgia has been tagged for merger here. I'm inclined to keep the articles separate. It would be confusing to a reader going to the link for a Georgia highway to be redirected into the Tennessee article. I also don't think that the dip into GA is significant to be highlighted in the TN article; conversely, the fact that it is a dip from TN and one of the shorter spans of interstate in a state is significant from the standpoint of the GA article. —C.Fred (talk) 17:53, 25 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Merger - round two edit

I am suggesting that the I-24 in Georgia and Tennessee be merged into a single page. Reasons being include:

  • The Georgia stretch continues Tennessee mileage/exit numbers.
  • I-24 enters/exits Tennessee in both directions

By having them merged, there can be one article about 185 miles of Interstate mostly in one state. FMAFan1990 (talk) 06:43, 15 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Sounds good; Interstate 24 in Georgia is a rather silly article. A similar case is U.S. Route 52 in West Virginia, which actually crosses into Kentucky several times (but is, I think, all maintained by West Virginia, unlike I-24). --NE2 07:05, 15 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • Support per above. --Rschen7754 (T C) 07:08, 15 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose Segments of Interstate 24 are maintained differently in different states - in this case Tennessee and Georgia. Gill Giller Gillerger (talk) 07:29, 15 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • Support However, the proposed title doesn't sound right to me. Maybe just have the title be in Tennessee with a mention early in the lead that a small portion is actually in Georgia? Dave (talk) 08:07, 15 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
    • Then the title will be misleading to the reader. They may not know that this is the article containing information about segments of I-24 in Georgia if they were to look for the Georgia segment. Gill Giller Gillerger (talk) 20:24, 15 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
      • And if they were to look up "Interstate 24 in Georgia" it would redirect to this article. I don't see the issue here. – TMF 21:43, 15 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
      • Although not exactly the same situation, there is some precedent for this. Washington State Route 41 (redirects to Idaho State Route 41) and Pennsylvania Route 17 (north) redirects to Interstate 86 (although New York State Route 17 is equally an appropriate redirect target. Dave (talk) 22:09, 15 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
        • PA 17 (north) is actually just the part at the very west end, which is now only I-86. The part through Sayre is NY 17, and is maintained by NYSDOT, despite being in Pennsylvania. --NE2 22:41, 15 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • Support per nom. Jeni (talk) 13:52, 15 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • Support per nom; however, I prefer Dave's idea for implementation. – TMF 21:43, 15 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • Support - The Georgia stretch of I-24 is too short to warrant its own article and can be merged with the I-24 in Tennessee article as it connects the two segments of I-24 in that state. Dough4872 (talk) 00:07, 16 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose however, I would greatly support moving the ...in Georgia to Interstate 24#Georgia (excluding the infobox, navbox, etc.) —Mr. Matté (Talk/Contrib) 21:40, 18 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
    • But why? If it gets merged into the TN article then the article flows smoothly. --Rschen7754 (T C) 21:51, 18 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
    • I think this is a valid option. However I think it would work better merging the state detail articles instead. My reasoning, I've seen articles where the highway traverses multiple states, some with detail articles, some without. What tends to happen is someone adds navboxes, intersection guides, etc. to the main article for the states that do not have detail articles. What usually soon follows is some inexperienced editor, rushes to add these items for "their neglected state" not noticing that their state has a detail article. Then the revert wars begin..... By combining with another state detail article, I think this scenario is better avoided. Dave (talk) 18:24, 19 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • Support merger, since I-24 in TN is broken in two by the short segment of I-24 in GA, moving the GA content here would make it all continuous. Imzadi 1979  08:38, 25 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hamilton County edit

When traveling westbound on I-24 and re-entering Tennessee, aren't you in Hamilton county for about 100 ft before entering Marion county? Should this be added to the table as a county it enters with no exit? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.59.252.212 (talk) 12:05, 18 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Cleanup edit

What further needs cleanup on this article? RJFJR (talk) 16:12, 5 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

The route description and history are incomplete; they're basically just random anecdotes about the road. --Rschen7754 20:37, 5 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Excuse me... edit

This article needs some special header given that its title is not "Interstate 24 in Tennessee and Georgia". Georgia guy (talk) 12:36, 28 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Header edit

I put a header; I wanted it to include only the fact that although the article's title says Tennessee only, it's about both Tennessee and Georgia. But I also got a "for other uses" sentence that I didn't want. Is there a special template that this article (and also any other article with a title that is mostly right but 2% or so wrong) can have?? Georgia guy (talk) 19:39, 28 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Rather than improving me, User:Imzadi1979 simply reverted me, as if the totality (as opposed to 98%) of the segment of the highway this article is about were in Tennessee. Georgia guy (talk) 20:00, 28 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
There seems to be an agreement amongst multiple editors that the Georgia segment is negligible (not unimportant; see this discussion and this page history). Equating it with the Tennessee segment could give undue weight. Bneu2013 (talk) 20:35, 29 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
