The station table is incomplete, but people are welcome to add finishing touches. Thanks. --imdanumber1 22:18, 20 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Historical data

edit

I changed this information below (in " ") because it isn't correct.

"The IRT Jerome Avenue Line (also known as IRT Woodlawn Line) is the sole surviving remnant of the 9th Avenue elevated system, which entered the Bronx via a now-demolished swing bridge immediately north of the still-extant Macombs Dam Bridge. With the opening of the IND system and the Grand Concourse Line, the line was eventually reconfigured for Lexington Avenue service"

I would love to know the source of this information.

The 9th Avenue El terminated at the Polo Grounds in Manhattan until 1918. The Jerome Avenue line was extended northward from 149th St-Grand Concourse in 1917. The 9th Avenue El was extended into the Bronx over the old Putnam Division bridge in 1918 through 2 new stations (Sedgewick and Jerome-Anderson to connect to the Jerome Avenue line.

I have to recheck some of the opening dates. I seem to remember that the line originally opened to Kingsbridge Road. It was extended to Woodlawn a bit later. I'll leave the June 1917 dates intact for now.

The IND Concourse line was built to be in competition with the IRT Jerome Avenue line.

Loop in the Bronx?

Does anyone know if the loop shown on [1] was built? --NE2 22:08, 24 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
