I did a cheeky c/e a few days ago. I was OC of a unit of Jeff Wilkinson's LSF a year before this was mounted, and as I recall it was generally in a pretty sorry state due to cost-cutting.

I have a few comments:

  • T–he ADF
     Y Heh. Deleted stray character. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 04:08, 9 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • "unprepared to support an Australian force projection" of this size?
     Y Added. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 04:08, 9 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • just wondering about the reason airlift is discussed ahead of sealift in the lead given ships did the heavy lifting logistically? I appreciate that the first troops arrived by air, so starting with Airlift makes sense there
    Yes, that was the reason. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 04:08, 9 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • in the lead and body, perhaps mention why a maximum quayside depth of 7 m was an issue
    Added a bit. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 04:08, 9 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • it might be useful to explain early on (and in the lead) about the Oecusse enclave and the logistical issues it raised given its physical separation from the rest of East Timor
This still needs addressing. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 01:00, 10 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
     Y Added a bit. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 03:34, 10 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

     Y Linked. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 04:08, 9 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • for 1999 Helms-Biden Act, perhaps link Jesse Helms and Joseph Biden
Don't think that would be very informative. It would be nicer if we had an article on the act. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 04:08, 9 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Howard admitted that his government's defence policy was misguided?
What he says is "The first Defence Minister in my government announced that... [he] would seek to use the language of the trade, to shift resources away from 'the back office to the sharp end'. I will leave to others to decide whether or not that was successful". He doesn't, of course, either in the book or in person, but he is pretty frank about it. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 04:08, 9 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
I don't think that you can use that to support a statement that the government's defence policy was misguided. Perhaps "Howard has questioned whether the policy to prioritise combat capabilities at the expense of logistical ones was a successful one." or words to that effect. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 01:00, 10 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
I already dropped "misguided" so it now reads: "This was compounded by a defence policy of the Howard Government that sought to maximise the "teeth-to-tail" ratio, which is supported by the source. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 03:34, 10 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
