The Irony of Homefront

The irony of this game is that it appears to represent the USA with a 'shining light' of hope and democracy. Unfortunately, complaints from consumers on the THQ forums are deleted or hidden. Updates to the 'Homefront (video game)' main Wiki page that reflect actual/truthful problems with the game are deleted. Free speech, speech that can be verified and is representative of problems reported by multiple users is hidden, ignored, suppressed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Iateyourcat (talkcontribs) 11:04, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

And how is this important? 66.59.49.88 (talk) 17:01, 21 March 2011 (UTC)

Two things: A, this is just WP:OR and is therefore irrelevant. B, you do not have the right to free speech on a forum unless the administrator of the forum says so. A company forum (or any forum really) is private property in cyberspace and your rights to free speech do not apply there. Get an RS talking about it and then come back. Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie Say Shalom! 02:50, 22 March 2011 (UTC)

And besides, the so-called "truthful problems" are generally "WAAAH WAAAH HOE DEED NOARTH KOERA WEEN WAAH WAAH!" 66.59.49.88 (talk) 13:06, 23 March 2011 (UTC)

That too, forums are often full of pointless bawwwing that have no place in a WP article. Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie Say Shalom! 21:59, 23 March 2011 (UTC)

Wait Until It's Out

For commercial purposes, this game does not even exist. Until it influences some sort of popular or cultural demand, I don't see how this work-in-progress, run-of-the-mill, cookie-cutter game deserves an article. Please remove this until further obvious need. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.243.180.163 (talk) 19:00, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

Actually, video games that have yet to be released do make it into Wikipedia on most instances. Thus, it is entirely acceptable, and does not even run into any sort of conflict with the manual of style. Besides, just because it has yet to make an influence on popular culture doesn't mean that it won't after its release. American Imperialist (talk) 20:22, 17 July 2010 (UTC)
Interesting that by virtue of it not being out yet, you are confident its cultural impact does not warrant a Wikipedia article. Yet in spite of your very acknowledgment that it is not out yet, you are nevertheless confident that it is "run-of-the-mill". You really need to put your crystal ball to better uses than this. Could you, for instance, allow the US Federal Reserve bank to use it? Maybe we can avoid running directly into a fiscal brick wall if we can harness the prescience of 96.243.180.163! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.82.208.44 (talk) 05:16, 28 November 2010 (UTC)

Wow

This game is such BS, North Korea will never be able to do this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.225.40.97 (talk) 00:06, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

I agree, I watched the trailer and it seems plausible but very unlikely, Where is China in the story? They wouldn't let the Koreans do this, if North Korea even thinks about invading S. Korea then we have troops right there at the border, the Communist north uses old ww2 and Cold war surplus, their economy is absolutely destroyed by their communistic ideals, and in the trailer the price of gas went up to near $20 a gallon, since when does S. Korea control our gas prices? Oh and to top it off, we've armed S. Korea and Japan to the near teeth with offsets of our technology, this story is impossible. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.163.252.155 (talk) 09:07, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

well actually it is possible as American culture crumbles riots talks of treason North and south korean unite plus they most likely get support from other countrys the hate America ( Mexico, peru, russia, japan, china, iran, afghnistan, iraq, united kingdom ect) and thats just off the top of my head the 20 dollars makes everyone poor probly even soldiers they are forced onto the streets making them sad and the fact that the U.S is over confident about there military abilitys example the wars in Iraq Iran and Afghanistan plus with the higher gas prices americans will get less education —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.6.168.201 (talk) 05:03, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

Any reaction from the [real] North Korean government?

Just curious if anybody's heard anything about the actual government's reaction. They've reacted to other things that seemingly disparage NK before. Is that something that should be entered into a "Critical Reactions" or "Criticisms" section eventually? ThePenciler (talk) 03:49, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

It's already been banned in BOTH Koreas, not just the north. 66.59.49.88 (talk) 16:23, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

What isn't banned in the DPRK? I mean that seriously. Though I would not be surprised if there is a single IP address playing MP from the DPRK if you know what I mean. The South Koreans most likely banned it because the game is just too damn scary to them. Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie, AKA TheArchaeologist Say Herro 14:16, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

Not exactly, the South Koreans banned it because it showed SK being annexed by NK and that it also shows a violent result of the Korean peninsula tensions. 66.59.49.88 (talk) 12:36, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

And how is that different from what I said? =p Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie, AKA TheArchaeologist Say Herro 16:38, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

False Information

This particular segment is what has grabbed my attention:

This world also features fictional physics; for example, EMP bombs are capable of destroying almost any infrastructure, and objects of interest are magnetically attracted to the player.

No link is provided to reinforce this claim and none of the previews i've read have stated any of this. I believe someone who is unhappy with the scenario put forward in the game is trying to put it in bad light. I recommend it be removed —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.107.245.161 (talk) 11:55, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

The above information is NOT false. Virtually every source that I've seen for this game mentions that, as part of the back story, EMP bombs destroy America's infrastructure, but here are some sources that reference this bit of fictional physics.[2][3][4]
As far as the magnetism, here's the sources:[5][6][7]. --M@rēino 04:11, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
EMPs CAN destroy infrastructure, it's no secret. An EMP can knock out, simultaneously, all electronics-based forms of transportation (cars, aeroplanes, trains, etc), annihilate communications (no electronics within the affected zone would work), and anything else that relies on circuits (as in, the U.S.' ENTIRE infrastructure) would be ruined without any way to repair it. If that isn't destroying infrastructure, I dunno what is. Everyone would be reduced to biking to places, candle-lighting their houses, and using ice to keep food fresh. And they'd have to physically go to places to communicate with the people there. That's destruction of infrastructure. YuriKaslov (talk) 14:50, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

Actually if an EMP burst went up right now above me I could turn on my cell phone (currently off) without a problem because EMP only affects ACTIVE systems. This computer I am using however would be a paperweight. Also, the US (And Russian, and French and German, etc...) military equipment is hardend against EMP because it was expected during the Cold War that it would be used in battle with nukes going off at random. A military computer is going to shrug it off without a problem, as will a jet fighter. In addition many companies use a more primitive but highly effective version of anti-EMP hardening called a Faraday Cage around their backup computer systems in the event of nuclear attack at one of their major nexus. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.69.184.198 (talk) 06:21, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Regardless, it is not as Mareino says "false physics"; most civilian technology would be eliminated, including cars and most electronics systems, since most people have a penchant of leaving the latter on forever. And our infrastructure is entirely civilian. (side-note, since this is a game about geurillas, they'd likely only have access to civvie tech or what they could scrounge from dead guys) YuriKaslov (talk) 15:28, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

On the Homefront wiki somebody posted that the release date was changed until october third (or it might've been march 8th; the actual wording was 8.3.11), but they did not have a source. Can anybody confirm? YuriKaslov (talk) 15:29, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

I am assessing as Start. A good way to improve it would be to remove the timeline (or at least appropriately demonstrate it in prose), adding reception from previews or observations from reliable sources, and making a Development section. - The New Age Retro Hippie used Ruler! Article expansion

Possibly add list of weapons such as the bmp vehicles and emp grenades. Also add factor of realism, say target damage of the fusilage on certain vehicles. If in common with other games, would also add APC street vehicles, if they are or are not. Lots of these weapons are new or unknown. Is it possible to concisely give a list of weapons list? On a side note Personally i have no qualms against this game. I like this game, the implementation of large environments is a new feature to incorporate, even if thq is new to this field of realworld fps multi-vehicular gaming. Reviews gave it 70 which is abit harsh. Game deserves atleast an 80.

As well, this game has features common in mp such as 'stalking' and 'scoping opponents. Yeah sure the koreans look like arabic hoodlums sometimes. Sure the graphics sometimes remind me of tony hawk 2 so wat anyways its how u play the game. What sort of DRM, also quit it. =p

First off, ZOMG COREAN INVASION OF THE LEFT COAST AND THE MIDWEST WASTELAND! Second, I see Steam for the PC version which makes me sad, but what other sort of DRM will there be? People want to know this sort of thing if they are considering buying it for PC so that they can determine how bad the infection is and whether it is worth it or they should probably get a console version. Don't tell them ofc or put your own opinion in, but provide the info for them to make a smart choice. Lastly, would people quit whining about the plot being BS and about the EMP? I mean it's speculative fiction (with probably a bit of fantasy), it's supposed to be made up and somewhat daffy. As for the EMP. Think of something like Star Wars with its lightsabers. It is not possible to trap a laser beam like that as the Force (sadly) does not exist. Let's apply that sort of thinking here. You want to see really implausible: Prayers for the Assassin, now that is implausible (Israel would totally nuke New York (Jew York), Washington and Mecca, riiiiight). So focus on the article people. :p TheArchaeologist (talk) 02:40, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

the only DRM on the game is having a steam client. take a look at http://forums.gameservers.com/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=43926 for info. i was fearful it was going to be like that new command and conquer game that requires a continuous internet connection. thankfully it isn't.(12.236.113.53 (talk) 09:22, 15 March 2011 (UTC))

Reception

The reception section states that the game scored better than Call of Duty: Black Ops on Metacritic and better than both Black Ops and Bad Company 2 on Game Rankings. While there is a citation on that in the article, I really don't see the relevance of that information. The last time I checked Wikipedia was an online encyclopedia, not a website to compare which games are better. It seems somewhat biased to me. I thought it would also be worth mentioning that I have pre-ordered Homefront and I already own Black Ops and Bad Company 2, so I hold no bias towards any of these games. The game does not come out until tomorrow (3/15/11 in North America) so it seems a little early to have a reviews section anyway. - George —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.77.6.190 (talk) 13:50, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

It isn't too early to have reviews from game reviewers if they have gotten to play the game early. Not all. However, you are absolutely right that its score shouldn't be compared to other FPSs, it's not a pissing contest after all as you said (though much more elegantly). Fix't Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie, AKA TheArchaeologist Say Herro 08:15, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for making that fix. Now that the game has been released the reviews section needs some editing. Several reviews of the game have been released from major gaming media outlets such as IGN and gameinformer. Would it be possible for someone to create one of those tables with all of the major reviewers scores as well as the overall scores from Game Rankings and Metacritic? I have never done any editing to an actual article on Wikipedia and there are people far more experienced than I am. It would be greatly appreciated. - George

Similar movie

I remember seeing a trailer for a movie about North Korea invading the US. It seems it was Red Dawn, but I thought the name was "Homefront" for a second and spent some time trying to search for it. We should not imply a relation between the two without sources explicitly saying one was based on or inspired by the other.
